What I don't understand is why it's so dimly lit in there, even in the daytime. I don't want bright "institution lighting" but bright enough to follow the hostess to my table and bright enough to read the menu.

The menu had a decent selection. The walleye sandwich was ok-- I'd for sure try something else next time. Two of us arrived early so we sat at the bar while we waited for the others. Pier 500 has great ambience! It was fun to see couples, families, and a general mix of people. Our dinner was amazing - but the best part was moving to an outdoor table for an after-dinner drink. The outdoor crowd was energetic - it was a great atmosphere with music and a beautiful view. Every time we make the short trip from the East metro suburbs of the Twin Cities, we are rewarded with excellent service, a great menu, and beautiful views of the St. Croix. ON this trip, my wife had the grilled meatloaf. I had the pork chops. The meatloaf is fairly traditional, with a unique twist - they put the pieces on the grill at the end to sear them, and give them that grilled flavor. My pork chops were the best I've had anywhere. Pier 500 must have a very hot grill. The chops were nicely seared on the outside, and tender and juicy inside. The side of apples give it a sweet, fresh from the farm taste. Paired with a great beer and wine selection, Pier 500 is definitely a favorite!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMI frequent the Pier Five HundredI frequent the Pier Five Hundred often. The food is outstanding! The Staff and Managers are all very friendly and go out of their way to accomodate us in every way. The outdoor patio is awesome. I had the special, chicken bruscetta with risoto, which was excellent. The other 2 in my group also liked their entrees as well. The decor in the restaurant is nice, kind of a modern feel; with a fireplace, and candles placed around the dining area.
