Diner Reviews
  • "What a find! Pier 290 is definitely on my top list of great places to dine. I brought my mother and friend to this restaurant and they were extremely impressed. The food was very good and the view beautiful. All this made for a great dining experience ! A side note, excellent access for the handicapped. Thank you!"

  • "I asked for a table with a view of the lake and they delivered. Also, best flourless chocolate cake ever!"

  • "The place is one of the best looking places and an outstanding "Lake Geneva" experience. The service is friendly and great, the decor is tastfully nautical and the view of the bay is perfect. They even have a great area with white sand and lawn chairs while enjoying a drink and looking out at some of the best looking wood boats that were docked at pier 290. This truly is a gem. The food however was just OK tasting. The menu looked to be great with a fantastic selection of sandwiches to the entrees. Everyone in our party ordered different lunches but when I asked everyone about their food, including mine, it was a answer of, it's just OK. At least we left on a sweeter note due to the fantastic dessert of the peanut butter chocolate bomb."

  • "Birthday lunch. Had asked when reserving to sit outside. We were seated outside but told no available tables under the canopy. There was a swarm of small bugs hovering over our table throughout the meal. We asked if we could move to a different outdoor table; there were several available. The waitress said she could put us inside but would not move us to a different outdoor table. She said that is what you should expect if you are eating outside. Very rude tone. During the course of the meal another server assisted her and she was rarely at the table. She basically ignored us for the rest of the meal. We eventually had to ask for the check as it appeared she had forgotten about us. Her manner was curt and unpleasant."

  • "This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time! Great atmosphere with a live bluegrass band - they were great! The service was excellent and everything we had from appetizers to dessert was exceptional! I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Nice ambiance, great views. Unfortunately, each of our dishes was overcooked, service was excruciatingly slow, and prices were imported from Chicago ($200 without a bottle of wine). I realize there is an indoor/outdoor section, but the flies in the dining room certainly detracted from the experience."

  • "The food was awsome my uncle and his wife told us about it was the best food ever I am going to tell people about it"

  • "Lake Geneva as revered as the place to be in the Midwest if you have lots o’ money. Lake front property is stupid expensive and real estate taxes are nuttso. You would think the best restaurant in the area would have equal class, BZZZZ, wrong, do over. It’s a marina where a guy dumped boat loads of money to decorate and forget to hire a real chef. Glad I went to say I've been there but note to self don’t go again."

  • "the size of the food portion is related to the price was ridiculous. The service was great the ambiance was outstanding, they need to work on their food."

  • "Booked our reservation for 7:15 through Open Table. Requested outside dining if weather permitted or window table, and indicated that we were celebrating our daughter's 30th birthday. Our outside table with a view of the lake was ready when we arrived. The service was prompt and attentive (although it took a little bit to get the check settled). The steaks were cooked as we each ordered. The fettuccine side could have used a little more seasoning and was cooked a little more than I would have liked. All in all it was a wonderful dinner and dining experience. We will be back."

  • "My husband and I wanted a special place to celebrate our 31st anniversary. We were delighted with our decision to drive from Rocford to Williams Bay to celebrate at Pier 290. Everything was praise worthy from the food, friendly and attentive wait staff, to the view of the lake! After our dinner we drove a short distance and walked along the beach front in Williams Bay on a path with friendly people and lovely flowers. It was a perfect way to end the day!"

  • "I ordered a turkey burger after asking if it was freshly ground and said yes. So I was expecting to get a burger consistance. It was like turkey meatloaf that was round. It clearly had filler in it."

  • "Boat launch & lift was right next to our table which was not pleasant. I didn't realize that it was a big deal to sit outside only 3 tables were taken - the rest were open but they made us wait 15-20 minutes before being seated when having a reservation & place was not busy. Didn't like how it was inconvient to ask for a meal without a something that came on it. Service slow"

  • "A bit too expensive to visit often. Please, do not tell me how long a review I must provide. That is pushing it."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The service was very poor, the waiter was overdone and actually rude (don't think he would think so) but the service at that check average didn't meet that expectation at all. The menu is very limited and unimpressive. Could be a real unique dining experience but it just has the feel of a bar hangout for "vacationing flatlanders." Oh well, we will stick to the ChopHouse at the Grand Geneva Resort, now that's class."

  • "We heard from a friend about this place and decided to go there. We visited on our anniversary and the service was great and food was good."

  • "We enjoyed Pier 290 very much... very good food, good service (a little "spacey", but good enough!) and beautiful ambience. Sitting right at the lake is a fabulous plus."

  • "Our reservations were for 7 pm. We arrived early at 6:30 - we didn't get seated until 7:40 and we had to ask twice when our table would be ready. We were not pleased with that. I made the reservations one week in advance and asked for a window table - we didn't get that either. Prices were high considering all you got was one side. When we were told the specials she did not tell us the price - - we should have asked because they were extremely high - $37 for Salmon. Food was good, however, we would only go back for a special occasion due to prices just too high."

  • "We, (6 family members) went to Pier 290 for Saturday Lunch. Food was Great for all. They had some Lake side specials ... my dad & brother had the perch dinner and loved it. View of Lake Geneva was beautiful. Service was awesome, wait staff really new the menu. When are meal was served it ALL came at the same time via 3 servers ... NO waiting to go back and grab that last dish!"

  • "Service was fine. The Menu was limited and the food quality did not live up to the price. The view of the lake was nice."

  • "Menu needs work. Food needs taste. The ambience is good to come for a drink and talk but the dining is not to scale"

  • "We had our 60th class reunion at Pier 290 in 2013. The service was outstanding as was the food. It was a busy Saturday, didn't interfere with our group. I would recommend Pier 290 for any group event."

  • "We love to eat here and probably eat here once a week in the summer months. Tonight I was with some ladies and the table next to us had their cell phone on speaker and carrying out a conference call. Every server walked by the table and did nothing. I went to the hostess and explained what was going on, no reaction until I told the staff person next to her to please ask them to stop the conference call. That person was slow to ask the two people to stop, but finally did so. Who has a conference call on speaker in a nice restaurant. The staff should know that is unacceptable and not have to have a diner leave their dinner and ask to have this stopped."

  • "Ambiance is great, set in a quaint small neighboorhood on the water with great views if dining on the deck. Service was good, but food was no where near worth the expense. Steak was raw in the middle and appetizer serving size is very small. "

  • "Great view of Williams Bay, Terrific Service. The green salad with goat cheese was terrific and the octopus ceviche appetizer was amazing. My filet was just an OK cut of meat, but it was prepared well. "

  • "Nestled at the end of a neighborhood street sits this Marina and beautiful restaurant. The waterfront view is peaceful and relaxing. When you add the great tasting food and friendly staff, this is a restaurant I highly recommend."

  • "Happened to get an inside table for 5 which have us very comfortable leather seating with a view. Servers were very attentive and knowledgable. Grass fed beef Cheeseburger was enjoyed by 2 in party. Lobster roll on east coast style bun was very good and corned beef on rye also enjoyable. Horseradish slaw was ok. Very dynamic flavors on salad, nice change of pace. Guineas served cellar temp with a nice nitro poor. Sprecker rootbeer as always a great treat. Strawberry basil sorbet was best desert, cream bu lai was disappointing. Very cool decore and setting provides fantastic views. Remarkable tile work in washrooms. Way cool overall feeling. We will be back to try more. "

  • "Our waitress Alex was very friendly, kind, and attentive to our requests. She made our experience worth coming back again. The fish (fresh trout and ahi tuna) were perfectly done, tender and flavorful. The sides were good but nothing impressive. The pork chop was overdone but flavorful. The fig and prosciutto salad was satisfying but not as good as I was hoping for. The mayflies made it difficult to sit outside, but that was beyond the restaurant's control and they did not ruin our experience. We had a beautiful view of the lake. :) "

  • "My husband and I really enjoy going to Pier 290. It's comfortable, nicely decorated, fun bar atmosphere inside and outside. The servers are very efficient and friendly. The outside is very unique: the tables are set in an area that can be protected with thick plastic walls if need be. In that area, there also are comfortable cocktail circles in front of fireplaces. Then, outside of the more protected area, closer to Geneva Lake, is an area with 2 fire pits seating around 10 people each. Closer to the Lake, is a sandy area with low slingback chairs where you can watch the lake activity. They usually have a small band near the inside bar along with a dance floor. We love going to Pier 290 when we come up for a visit!"

  • "We recently went to pier 290 on a Friday evening. My wife had the hamburger and fries. The fries were extremely salty although one of our friends had the same meal and her fries were not that salty. One of us had the pork chop which was very good, a very generous size. I had the fish fry ($21). The cole slaw was so spicy that I couldn't eat it. I didn't eat the potato, it tasted like mush. The lake perch was soft and tasteless. Our waitress did insist they bring another meal but I declined. We were not charged for my meal. I might try again for lunch, but not dinner."

  • "New chef change will destroy this restaurant. Feedback based on comparison from previous dining when food preparation was excellent. Chicken salad was grizzle salad. Romaine lettuce was mottled throughout. Kudos to management for recognizing problems when shown."
