Diner Reviews
  • "Delightful lunch on a perfect day. Great food and service. Fun watching the dock action."

  • "Wonderful setting and atmosphere, but food is overpriced and very average for what you'd expect. Some entrees came cold. Larger groups are forced to break into smaller tables to avoid having to do prix fixe which makes no sense for kids, as they just want to play in the sand. Fantastic lake side seating and lounge area, makes this better for lunch or drinks or night time bar scene. Hope they can up the food quality or normalize pricing to Wisconsin levels!"

  • "Wonderful vegan dish. Loved the combination of Quinoa, Spaghetti Squash and Brussel Sprouts. Delicious, creative, healthy and low calorie dinner. Everything was seasoned very well, although the grilled brussel sprouts were dry. Personally, could have done with out the grilled apple, but overall I would order this dish again. Bread could be better. I understand the idea of the Hostess taking the party to the table, but it was awkward as she stood there waiting for us to settle in so she could put a menu in our hand. I would much appreciate the Hostess simply showing us to the table, and let wait staff bring the menu. Music was too loud and noisy. Why not have Valet parking at the entrance? Beautiful restaurant and view."

  • "My husband and I went out to dinner for my bday to Pier 290. I was excited bc I had been there in the past for lunch and had the lobster roll...yummy! Since then, I have been informed the lobster roll shrunk in size and increased in price. The evening started off poorly after my husband was dismissed after asking for a table closer to the window since it was my bday. There were flies on the inside of the restaurant that neither the server or waitress seemed to care about. The special appetizer was uncooked bacon and still grisly after asking for it to be cooked longer. My husband ended up having a salad in fear of getting an overpriced sub par entree. The waitress knew of his dissatisfaction with the appetizer but did nothing."

  • "Dined here for our anniversary dinner, had a window seat with a great view of Williams Bay watching other diners come by boat to enjoy the atmosphere of Pier 290. Blackened Ahi Tuna was amazing, the pork was okay, the dessert was outstanding (peanut butter chocolate choice). We brought our own wine and corked for $15. After dinner, we had a post dinner cocktail in the lounge chairs on the beach surrounded by tiki torches with two fire pits behind us by the outdoor bar. The atmosphere of this place makes it worth a visit."

  • "We sent for our 30th anniversary dinner. Other than being really hot and humid, we had a great time."

  • "The food was excellent but the menu appeared somewhat limited. The atmosphere is good but the night we went the music was a little bit distracting. We enjoyed our visit"

  • "More of a beach side type lo lo than a fine dining. Sat in the white super fine sand and sun had a couple beers then sat on the deck for dinner. Food was below par for the second time. Prices are fair but the draw here is water front with beautiful outside amenities. Pull up in your boat or drive there and enjoy the outside. Others have written the marina literally adjacent to the deck lets off boat exhaust and it does but, it should be expected because that is where you are. Not offensive if you have the right frame of mind."

  • "Beautiful location but bad food. This was our third try here and food was terrible again. It's too bad because the location is superb. Will not be eating here again."

  • "My husband, daughter, son-in law & 3 small grandchildren had a FABULOUS time at Pier 290! It's perfect for a special dinner with family & friends. Casual, upscale, good food & drinks. Try to go in the summer...you'll feel like you're in Cape Cod or in a J Crew catalogue! Really family friendly."

  • "$21 for a perch fishfry. It was all over fried(dark brown). Not even a mouthful of perch, all breading. Rye bread dryed out.the service and ambiance were good."

  • "I moved from Williams Bay to Georgia my senior year of high school. I came back to visit this summer (3 years later) and heard pier 290 had a beautiful view. They weren't wrong! But.. The menu had no options and it was so overpriced. I know I am a college kid and I don't have loads of money but there wasn't an good entree selection at all for a reasonable price. I loved the view, it was absolutely beautiful, but I will not be going there again. Sorry!"

  • "This restaurant had been recommended by Grand Geneva as one of the better in the area. While the waitress was quick at the onset, brought our drinks in no time, the next time we saw her was at the conclusion of our dinner when she asked if I would like another drink. Seemingly invisible to her during the rush of our food being served by another wait staff, i.e. soup delivered and no sooner did we dip the spoons in and the entrée was delivered, she was wondering the floor with the ability of a boat on the lake avoiding mines. I had to get up and find a wait staff to bring us bread, which was promptly delivered nearly 10 minutes later. The food ... what can I say ... excellent if you like pasta obviously prepared and left to coagulate."

  • "Pier 290 was recommended by a friend who had family living in the area.we were looking for a spot to have a nice dinner on the last evening of our vacation. I made the reservations on OpenTable from my phone while on a Pontoon boat on Delavan Lake and everything went off without a hitch. They sat our table of 8 (including 3 kids) in a nice private area with views of Williams Bay. The restaurant has a Marina theme and is nicely decorated with lots of historical information about Lake Geneva. Our service was great and the food was fantastic. It was a great alternative to the craziness in downtown Lake Geneva and easily accessible for those visiting Delavan. We'll definitely be back."

  • "I had the Ahi Tuna and my Husband had the filet. Both were amazing. Our service was perfect and our window seat we requested was just right. Next time I would like to try the out door dining. Nice view of Lake Geneva."

  • "We were seated promptly and by amicable people. The food was excellent including a late lunch, great desserts, and cappuccino. The waitress was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Otherwise, it was a great experience and we had a great time seeing sailboats and motor boats go by!"

  • "This was our first time to Pier 290. I was hopeful it would be a place where my husband and I could visit often because the setting is very nice - right on the water with outdoor dining. Unfortunately, the food was fair, at best. I would come back to sit and have a drink and look at the lake, but not for the food. It's a shame; it could be a gem."

  • "This was the second time we dined at Pier 290 because we love the ambiance of the restaurant and bar. Our first time we loved the ambiance but were disappointed with our food. So we decided this last visit to give it another try. However the food is mediocre at best and overpriced for the quality. The staff is friendly, the bar is nice....the food is just not good and not worth paying for the atmosphere of the place. Unfortunately we will not be going back."

  • "What a find! Pier 290 is definitely on my top list of great places to dine. I brought my mother and friend to this restaurant and they were extremely impressed. The food was very good and the view beautiful. All this made for a great dining experience ! A side note, excellent access for the handicapped. Thank you!"

  • "The place is one of the best looking places and an outstanding "Lake Geneva" experience. The service is friendly and great, the decor is tastfully nautical and the view of the bay is perfect. They even have a great area with white sand and lawn chairs while enjoying a drink and looking out at some of the best looking wood boats that were docked at pier 290. This truly is a gem. The food however was just OK tasting. The menu looked to be great with a fantastic selection of sandwiches to the entrees. Everyone in our party ordered different lunches but when I asked everyone about their food, including mine, it was a answer of, it's just OK. At least we left on a sweeter note due to the fantastic dessert of the peanut butter chocolate bomb."

  • "Birthday lunch. Had asked when reserving to sit outside. We were seated outside but told no available tables under the canopy. There was a swarm of small bugs hovering over our table throughout the meal. We asked if we could move to a different outdoor table; there were several available. The waitress said she could put us inside but would not move us to a different outdoor table. She said that is what you should expect if you are eating outside. Very rude tone. During the course of the meal another server assisted her and she was rarely at the table. She basically ignored us for the rest of the meal. We eventually had to ask for the check as it appeared she had forgotten about us. Her manner was curt and unpleasant."

  • "This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time! Great atmosphere with a live bluegrass band - they were great! The service was excellent and everything we had from appetizers to dessert was exceptional! I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Nice ambiance, great views. Unfortunately, each of our dishes was overcooked, service was excruciatingly slow, and prices were imported from Chicago ($200 without a bottle of wine). I realize there is an indoor/outdoor section, but the flies in the dining room certainly detracted from the experience."

  • "Lake Geneva as revered as the place to be in the Midwest if you have lots o’ money. Lake front property is stupid expensive and real estate taxes are nuttso. You would think the best restaurant in the area would have equal class, BZZZZ, wrong, do over. It’s a marina where a guy dumped boat loads of money to decorate and forget to hire a real chef. Glad I went to say I've been there but note to self don’t go again."

  • "Booked our reservation for 7:15 through Open Table. Requested outside dining if weather permitted or window table, and indicated that we were celebrating our daughter's 30th birthday. Our outside table with a view of the lake was ready when we arrived. The service was prompt and attentive (although it took a little bit to get the check settled). The steaks were cooked as we each ordered. The fettuccine side could have used a little more seasoning and was cooked a little more than I would have liked. All in all it was a wonderful dinner and dining experience. We will be back."

  • "My husband and I wanted a special place to celebrate our 31st anniversary. We were delighted with our decision to drive from Rocford to Williams Bay to celebrate at Pier 290. Everything was praise worthy from the food, friendly and attentive wait staff, to the view of the lake! After our dinner we drove a short distance and walked along the beach front in Williams Bay on a path with friendly people and lovely flowers. It was a perfect way to end the day!"

  • "I ordered a turkey burger after asking if it was freshly ground and said yes. So I was expecting to get a burger consistance. It was like turkey meatloaf that was round. It clearly had filler in it."

  • "Boat launch & lift was right next to our table which was not pleasant. I didn't realize that it was a big deal to sit outside only 3 tables were taken - the rest were open but they made us wait 15-20 minutes before being seated when having a reservation & place was not busy. Didn't like how it was inconvient to ask for a meal without a something that came on it. Service slow"

  • "A bit too expensive to visit often. Please, do not tell me how long a review I must provide. That is pushing it."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The service was very poor, the waiter was overdone and actually rude (don't think he would think so) but the service at that check average didn't meet that expectation at all. The menu is very limited and unimpressive. Could be a real unique dining experience but it just has the feel of a bar hangout for "vacationing flatlanders." Oh well, we will stick to the ChopHouse at the Grand Geneva Resort, now that's class."

  • "Our reservations were for 7 pm. We arrived early at 6:30 - we didn't get seated until 7:40 and we had to ask twice when our table would be ready. We were not pleased with that. I made the reservations one week in advance and asked for a window table - we didn't get that either. Prices were high considering all you got was one side. When we were told the specials she did not tell us the price - - we should have asked because they were extremely high - $37 for Salmon. Food was good, however, we would only go back for a special occasion due to prices just too high."
