Diner Reviews
  • "The ambience and overall environment was pleasant. We particularly enjoyed the strolling trio of musicians. The food was mediocre at best though. Service was good. I know it's a buffet so the food quality will be different, but at the price it was disappointing. "

  • "I thought that this was a nice way to celebrate the holiday! "

  • "We have made a family tradition of having most holiday brunches here for the last four years. The Penza is the perfect place to eat with family, have breakfast with the Dream Works characters, or just to gaze at Potomac river.. It offers a relaxed family friendly environment and a brunch with something foe everyone."

  • "Had a breakfast meeting in the restaurant. Selection of buffet options was nice. Our party divided up and hit several of the buffets. Food from each appeared to be very good quality. Service was friendly and attentive. A little on the pricey side, but not out of line for hotel dining."

  • "Overal Pienza wasn't bad for a buffet, however we called ahead and explicitly asked if they had a menu and they said they did. Several members of our group dislike buffets and we were expecting a sit-down table service breakfast. When we arrived we were informed that they only had the buffet. Obviously that put a sour spin on the whole meal."

  • "I was at a conference located at National Harbor with friends and we were looking for restaurant options for lunch and dinner. Dinner at this restaurant was fun, relaxing, and tasty! We all had something different (Mahi Mahi special, Chicken Alfredo, and Margareta Pizza) and all of us were very happy with the quality and portions of food. Also, our waiter was very friendly and provided great service. We will definitely eat here again."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 30 wedding anniversary with brunch at the Pienza. What a wonderful experience! Great food and a little song for the couple!! Such a romantic experience!"

  • "When we first got there the Hostess was very nice and went over everything to us. Once we sat down our server was right there asking if we wanted a drink. But after that no one came over to clear our table so we could go get more food. We had to eat ontop of our old plate. When they finally did come over to clear the table they didnt ask if we wanted a refill. For the amount of money that we spent on the breakfast I was looking for a little better service."

  • "It was okay food, the dessert table wasn't restocked so by the time we were ready for dessert, it was wiped out. Be aware of any convention going on as there were kids everywhere. The view wasn't as good as I had hoped and the service was not that great. Not really worth the price."

  • "This place is is hardly anything to brag about. You can find the same food of the same quality at a Residence Inn or something. Came here specifically just because I was craving breakfast & i didn't find it too special. Service was okay but the waitress brought our check while we were on our first plate of food & I found it very rude, like I was being rushed out even though we were one of the only customers. I wouldn't come back here, its far too expensive to be of such mediocre quality."

  • "Restaurant was overpriced for the quality of food. Ample seating, but open style like a cafeteria. Simply was not pleased with the experience."

  • "we've been having a rather large Christmas brunch there every year since it opened. it seems as if they are just not trying any more. do not go after 12:30 pm as the buffet starts to become picked through and they do not restock many of the better items. i couldn't even find anyone to restock the fruit at the chocolate fountain. deserts-don't even think about it. the entire buffet it is a mess by 1 pm. and all the staff is trying to get out of there. hated to tip 20% on the bill for buffet. but I figure it's not the servers fault. its poor management."

  • "It was my dad's birthday, I asked for he strings trio to play "happy birthday" and they happily agreed, and told me to let my server know and she brought out a special desert tray while the trio played the song. It was very nice, I'm glad I asked. (I did make a note of it on our reservation, I guess they don't always check that.) I do wish they had more gluten and dairy free options."

  • "I was so looking forward to my brunch but was really disappointed. Other than the coffee the meal was tasteless. First time having an omelet with all the veggies and no taste what so ever. Same with the fruit. Melons were hard and tasteless even the pineapple was tart. Not what I'm use to at a Marriott property"

  • "The food is buffet style more for guests of the hotel, if they want to get away from room service. Nothing spectacular about the food and the menu does not reflect the actual food choices. Food was good, not extraordinary. Just meh."

  • "I didn't know this was a buffet only place, but that was ok. It was a large buffet with good food and better food than many of the surrounding restaurants. Very pricy for lunch because you are trapped at the hotel."

  • "Visited this place several times. It is a very good place. Quite expensive but it is worth it during regular Sundays. I noticed that during holidays, it gets packed and good service goes away. Food selection does not change except for some few holiday items."

  • "We took a family group of 11 there for New Years Eve dinner. Pienza had an excellent buffet and everyone , including the kids and a picky eater found something they liked. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly and the price was reasonable. We may go back next year!"

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our 31st Anniversary, which I indicated in the reservation. I had requested and expected some sort of celebratory cake or something. Nothing happened nor was I asked. Please don't ask for special instructions if you don't plan to follow up. What happened to the entertainment? The entertainment would have added that special touch for the holidays. We selected Pienza based on the write up. Please update your information. I'm not sure if I would recommend this restaurant to a friend or family. The jury is still out........."

  • "What has become a family tradition over the past few years, we look forward to Christmas at the Pienza. While the food and staff were excellent, we felt having the ICE show at a closer location to the hotel created more traffic and took away from the experience. Preferred when ICE was around the back."

  • "We had not been there for a couple years, and found it disappointing. Maybe it was just the fact that we were there for lunch rather than dinner, but it seems to have gone downhill. When I pay that much for the buffet I don't expect the entire first station to be "make your own turkey sandwich." The last two stations were shut down entirely, and the pasta station was just serving pizza (which wasn't very good.) The dessert selection was limited and they were scattered all around rather than being at the old spot (where you used to also be able to get ice cream and sundaes.) Overall there were limited options which is not what I have come to expect. The service was also lacking."

  • "This was a beautiful Christmas experience. The decorations, the food and music added up to an enjoyable experience."

  • "GOOD: The buffet's large selection of good food was expected for $40/person and they didn't disappoint. BAD: The staff at some of the buffet stations were slow to replenish depleted trays. The noise level in the back of the restaurant was very loud. Our servers were inattentive, slow and forgetful (how hard is it to keep us hydrated?). I was surprised to see an 18% gratuity was added to the bill for our party of eight, which I thought was a little much for providing drinks and removing empty plates."

  • "Did the recession kill Pienza? and the Gaylord too? Pienza used to be a great place to take my friends and family for lunches and brunches. They used to have this awesome pasta bar, carving station, multi-level dessert presentation and more. I take my staff there every year as part of our holiday celebration. This year, the selections were sparse; no pasta bar, no carving station, and the desserts consisted of three cakes/pies and assorted cookies. That was it. It was so sparse, my staff and I started thinking about a different place to go next year. Plus, the whole hotel was paired down in decorations and festivitiy. This usual nice outing was just kinda regular. To add insult to the injury, the prices didn't change."

  • "I made a reservation their for a group of 6 at 7:00pm only to find out when we got there they were not open at 7:00pm I was so mad I should have looked at their hours but who looks at them when making a reservation the reservation online should not let that happen and just to let everybody know the rating the food service, ambience ,noise level ,overall ,made me put something on it so that is why I gave the rating I sure it a great place to eat that is why I made the reservation in the first place"

  • "We stayed at the Gaylord to go to ICE. All of the restaurants were booked, so I reserved Pienza a few weeks in advance. It is a buffet, with an outrageous price. For 4 adults and 1 child, the price was $177.48. Run, run, run...the other way! The selection was limited and the food was mediocre at best. My son had chicken tenders, french fries, ketchup, and jello for dinner, so in no way should we have been charged the exorbitant price for him. It was nasty!"

  • "My husband and I could not find a babysitter to watch the kids (10yr anniversary celebration). So, we decided to switch restaurants to accommodate a larger party. There was a line, but with our reservation we did not have to wait. Our waiter was EXTREMELY forgetful and ended up comp-ing us several items for our wait. We were seated near a kitchen area that completely blocked our view of the hotel water/xmas lights show. Slightly annoying... The food was so-so. My oldest daughter only ate chips, but my toddler ate everything from pizza to chocolate covered apples. My food, by the time I got it from the buffet to the table was luke warm. Tons of kids were there... so it was a good choice from that respect."

  • "We really enjoyed our buffet breakfast at the Pienza. The best part was coming out of the elevator and seeing a huge crowd waiting outside. I made my way to the front (with stares coming my way) and asked where the line was for reservations and was immediately escorted into the restaurant. (Thanks Open Table!) The buffet selection was really great and we all had several plates."

  • "Your menu on the Open Table website was not available. This dinner out turned out to be a buffet. It appears that the menu you post is actually from another of the hotels' restaurants: "Old Hickory." My problem with this experience is that it seemed people used the gated fence as a pass-through, as there was a lot of foot traffic near my table coming through the fence. The food, for a buffet, was very good and of nice variety; and the service was very good. There seems to be a waiting line at any time - brunch or dinner - so make a reservation."

  • "A great Thanksgiving feast with many choices but WHERE WERE THE PIES? NO PUMPKIN, NO PECAN, NO MINCEMEAT, NOT EVEN APPLE PIE. A chocolate fountain and a selection of mini cupcakes DOES NOT COMPLETE A THANKSGIVING DINNER!! Many cupcakes were left on tables and after the children were finished playing with the chocolate, the marshmallows were also left uneaten. The dessert selection seemed aimed to please the children not the paying adults. How ridiculous to have a turkey with trimmings meal topped off with a chocolate marshmallow! My dinner companions and I could not believe this magnificent $56 meal without a traditional ending."

  • "My family and I have dined here before on Thanksgiving Day, and on other occasions. This Thanksgiving (2013) was particularly great! It seems the restaurant (its buffet) has become even better. There was a large variety and plenty of food. All of the food and desserts were tasty, and the service was great. We left feeling very satisfied."

  • "They offer an extensive buffet. You cannot order just one item. I had the omelet bar for breakfast. it was excellent as it was made to order. The potatoes and sausage were cold even though they were sitting under lights. The waitress was very sweet and pleasant when I asked her to replace the coffee cream for the coffee as it clabbored in the coffee. If the omelet had not been so good my ratings for this restaurant experience would have been extremely low."

  • "We've been going to this restaurant for years for birthday celebrations. We noticed that they are stuffing more tables into the same area making it crowded, louder, and a detraction from the overall experience... In addition, I think brunch prices went up as well."
