Been before and will go again.Been before and will go again. Interesting, flavourful food and excellent service. Looking forward to going back.12/4/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting dining destinationNice selection of drinks from the bar. Chef tasting menu was good. Highlights were the chicken wings, beef carpaccio and oysters. Creative play on other dishes but found the flavours could be more refined. It was the first night of the mystery tasting menu so suspect tweaks will be made for improvements. Sleek restaurant interior. Welcome party protesters in front of the restaurant are quite energetic but harmless.12/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is served tapas styleThe food is served tapas style and you should plan on 1-2 dishes per person.11/4/2013 12:00:00 AMreally nicely prepared meal.really nicely prepared meal. good variety. recommended11/4/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent - first visit &excellent - first visit & celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary - perfect spot11/3/2013 12:00:00 AMPidgin is simply wonderful.Pidgin is simply wonderful. The room is beautiful, and the service splendid. We were dithering about ordering whilst tucking into the wine, and told the server we wanted a vegetarian meal. He offered to take care of choosing for us, which we accepted, and his choices were fabulous. Creative, tasty, and far different from the usual pastas etc. that are fobbed off on vegetarians in many places. Reasonably priced, too. Nothing not to like about Pidgin.10/4/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent experience.....Original delicious and beautifully presented tapas plate styled dishes. Attentive service and a good vibe.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Desserts and cool roomReally enjoyed our experience. The japanese inspired tapas were delicous and interesting. The desserts were fabulous. Server was nice but could have been a little more attentive and faster to pay attention to us. The decor is super cool.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVisited on a Tuesday eveningVisited on a Tuesday evening and the room wasn't as full as it is on weekends, but the food and the service continues to exceed all expectation. Tried a bit of a change-up and asked the kitchen to provide a variety of their signature dishes for a fixed price (which I established) and the meal was as awesome as ever ... and I tried a few new dishes to boot. If you love food, thoughtful combinations and inventive presentations, this is the place.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food; "unique" locationDon't let the roughness of the neighbourhood scare you away from this Vancouver gem! As soon as you pass the threshold of the front door, you'll feel like you've been transported to a different place entirely. The interior is clean, calm and refreshing - it has great seating options and a cool modern esthetic that lends perfectly to its amazing menu options.
We had a foie gras dish with rhubarb and white chocolate over top of freshly toasted brioche. It was absolutely heavenly - best foie gras combination I've ever consumed. Every plate exceeded the next in terms of freshness and taste. The duck with carrot cake puree is a must. As is the pea shoot salad with soft poached eggs.
My only regret: not leaving room for dessert!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMwe did the prie fix dinnerwe did the prie fix dinner and it was more than enough great food for the two of us. You never knew what was coming and it was a great tasty surprise each time.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique in VancouverThe food at Pidgin really is amazing. Not every dish is as amazing as every other, but nothing is bad, some thins are just more excellent than others.
They have a decent wine list, but really you should try at least one of the mixed drinks. The Hannyo, I think it was called, for example, has gin, sauvignon blanc, lemon thyme and cinnamon smoke. I have no idea really what cinnamon smoke is, but the drink is fantastic.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe parked near the restaurantWe parked near the restaurant , had a lovely
meal at 6pm and were able to walk back to the Queen Elizabeth
Theatre where we had 8pm tickets for a show.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat desserts, beautiful roomGreat dinner. Beautiful space and we had two of the best desserts I've ever tasted.. the Pudding with puffed rice and caramel as well as their Meringue. Amazing.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance; can food catch up?Pidgin's environment enraptured me right from its entry-way: with its understated white millwork, exposed ductwork and unique wrought-metal warmly golden lighting system you immediately feel like you're in the warmest, funnest, most interesting spot in the city. Service was fast and friendly; food wasn't as tasty as expected.(Beef carpaccio was bland; chicken-wings too breaded with gooey sauce that seemed bottled; humpback shrimp was brightly flavoured but annoyingly gummy. Highlight was scallops with polenta frites--excellent!) Dearth of by-the-glass wine choices (nothing bubbly by the glass) was a drag; total lack of coffee or tea made the end of the meal seem incomplete. Keep practising in the kitchen and I'll come back.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBest dining experience in VancouverDon't miss the chef's tasting menu with its exquisite progression of flavours and beautiful presentation.
Bravo!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining Experience!Went with my date this week and was quite impressed with the quantity and quality of food we got with the fixe prix menu.
Atmosphere: For a Wednesday night the place was quite busy and good vibe all around. Service was spot on.
Food: More than happy with all 9 dishes. Favorites were the dan dan noodles, gnocchi, half duck and dessert! The lemon meringue was exceptionally done with the pleasant crunchy surprise of celery.
Drinks: Had the Van Horne which had a delicious kick of ginger to it. The Deighton was also good but the rosemary was a little overpowering. Good selection of cocktails, local wines, beers, sake and even soju
Amazing dining experience and will be back again soon!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMust Try!We all had a great evening. I will return and recommend often.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, service, atmospherecreative food - we went with the smaller prix fixe option - all the dishes delicious. Service was very friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Atmosphere was light and clean. Good value. And there was no hullabaloo from the ne'er-do-wells while we were there.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSIMPLY AMAZINGMy out-of-town friends, my wife and I loved the energy of this place and the to-die-for food. We went with two small and two regular prix fixe dinners and seemed to have tasted the entire menu (not quite), each dish more amazing than the previous one! The chili lime peanuts were great, but then so were the oyster shooters, wonderful blends of incredible flavours -- then the humpback shrimp, dan dan kohirabi noodle salad, mushrooms and snap peas, beef tartare, gnocchi, they were all great. The most amazing dishes came at the end, pork belly rice bowl, scallops and polenta and half duck with carrot cake sauce -- but the crowd favourite was the dessert, meringue with yuzu curd, vanilla and celery, a light decadent piece of heaven. Amazing!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing new addition to VancouverAside from the picketers which make this place more desirable to try - this is a great spot. Amazing innovative cuisine with new takes on Asian flavors. Share as many plates as you can! Great cocktails too and fun room. Make sure you get reservations5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWOW WOW WOWThe cocktails and the food were simply amazing! The kitchen and the entire operation is run with extreme professionalism. I recommend this to anyone - it is fantastic. We had the oyster shooter (best ever), rice crackers (yummy), duck croquettes with beet ketchup (wow) and elk ssam (elk was beautifully cooked, but the dish lacked "oomph") - we both had late lunches so regretted being unable to eat more. The cocktails were some the BEST I've ever had anywhere, and I travel regularly to major global cities.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night out with friendsHad another great night at Pidgin on Saturday, definitely one the most interesting menus in town. Loved the humpback shrimp, pork belly rice bowl, roasted peppers. As with our previous visit, we were impressed with the service. It is great to have people that are so knowledgeable about, and actually care about, the food and drinks - I welcome contrast from the beautiful but vaguely vacant servers that are found way too often at Vancouver restaurants.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA real dining experience! My second trip to Pidgin did not disappoint. This time I brought out of town guests and they were super impressed. The al dente potatoes and humpback shrimp are not to be missed. The protestor situation is the only thing that puts a bit of a damper on the situation, but the restaurant handles it well calling ahead to advise of the situation and allowing you to make your own decisions. All in all, one of best restaurant experiences currently available in Vancouver.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMworth the waitHad been waiting since December for the opening and it didn't disappoint. Wonderful food combinations, very flavourful, beautiful presentation. My husband who says he doesn't like uni loved the uni with cauliflower puree. Will definitely be back.3/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
