Diner Reviews
  • "Was here for our 10th anniversary and now for our 20th -- Service as always was impeccable and the food quality (we had the 5 course menu) very well done. We enjoyed the amuse bouche and I had the wine pairings with my meal. You can tell they are working very hard to earn back their star!"

  • "Great place! In our top 5 favorite dining experiences behind Robuchon (MGM), Guy Savoy (Caesars), and Marmalade (San Juan). Awesome!!"

  • "All the food was very good but the sturgeon panna cotta is one of the best dishes I have ever had. I started to rate the food four out of five and then realized I have to give them credit for that. The panna cotta was like something I've never experienced. I day dream of going back and sitting at the bar with a cocktail and just that dish alone."

  • "It was awesome. I gave it a 4 star because only people over 50 go here. I did see Susan Sullivan there. The food and service was fantastic as long as you don't get the suckling pig dish because it's too dry. I would go back and take someone different each time because it is an experience."

  • "My favorite restaurant near Lincoln Center. Impeccable cuisine, attentive service beautiful room. Highly recommended."

  • "My Girlfriend and I had dinner this past turesday at Picoline. She is a big lover of cheese so this place is perfect. Service was very good and food was good not great. I just not treated very well like the other customers. They were getting little extras from the kitchen throughout thier meals and we didnt get anything extra. for the price your paying it is nice to have the chef send along a little something. there are far too many other places in NYC at this price point that appreciate thier clients. Sorry Picoline, I am done."

  • "My husband & I just recently ate here and it was wonderful! We did a tasting menu along with the win pairings. A few standouts were the Crab salad as well as the Turbot."

  • "First-class dining, very elegant, but pricey. Very convenient to Lincoln Center."

  • "WE had eaten at Picholine before and found it excellent. However, with a new chef it has gone on to a new level. The food was one of the best meals we have ever had. Service was impeccable. The only thing that could use some updating would be the desert menu. But there was a wide choice of appetizers and main courses, and the amusees were very tasty."

  • "Tasting menu well presented and of quality ingredients. Wine list ridiculously expensive (nothing under $100) with pompous french sommelier trying to sell the more expensive bottles and then making veiled negative comments when his wine was not chosen. The numerous wait staff were courteous but mixed, some naturally friendly and professional and others intrusive. Overall Tasting menu well presented and of quality ingredients. Wine list ridiculously expensive (nothing under $100) with pompous french sommelier trying to sell the more expensive bottles and then making veiled negative comments when his wine was not chosen. The numerous wait staff was courteous but mixed. Some really pleasant and others intrusive."

  • "For a restaurant with such a stellar reputation we expected more. We found the sommelier to be aloof and unhelpful. We had to ask a server to fill our wine glasses. The food was average. For a restaurant with high end prices, the whole meal should have been better."

  • "My wife and I ordered the five course tasting menu with the wine paring - to summarize: the best meal I have ever had Dining room was elegant Wait staff was pleasant, attentive, and fun - (I expected aloof) Food was elegantly presented and the flavors were dazzling In addition to the fabuolus food it was a fun meal Highly recommended"

  • "My friend and I enjoyed catching up over dinner at Picholine. We were here on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy, so we were able to chat without hearing everyone else's conversations. The staff were attentive and the Fromager was very knowledgeable and the special highlight of the night because I love cheese. We had seared foie gras and rilettes as appetizers, suckling pig and ribeye as entrees, and cheese plate and coffee spoom for dessert. The quality of the food is on par with what I'd expect for a restaurant of this caliber, so it was excellent. It certainly did not disappoint but it did not blow me away as the "best thing I've ever eaten" either."

  • "It was one of the best restaurant in my life (42 years old). We'd like to stop-by the restaurant near future."

  • "Picholine is by far my favorite restaurant on the upper west side (including Per Se and Boulud Sud). Not only is the food consistently exquisite, but the decore is magnificent. It is also quiet. The service is always attentive, but never intrusive. It is the perfect place for a truly romantic evening."

  • "Food excellent, lovely wine list and fabulous cheese course. Room is lovely - a fairly quiet crowd; there seemed to be several tables of regulars based on staff interaction. Pacing of our meal was uneven - unduly slow delivery of apps and then again of entrees, prepare to wait. A couple seated after us was on their entrees before our appetizers arrived. Wait staff were attentive and pleasant. By contrast the manager was brusque and we experienced and observed the sommelier being selective in bestowing his attentions throughout the evening."

  • "Perfect for pre theatre dining at Lincoln Center. Quiet, elegant, wonderful food and service. A gem. "

  • "The service is impeccable. And the food is outstanding--creative yet not crazy. My wife had the "fish and chips" appetizer which was incredible. Cod brandade, trout roe, potato chips and a soft egg. Amazing. I had the fava bean tortellini which was excellent. But before we even had those appetizers we had 4 very interesting amuses. I then had the suckling pig which was very good. My wife had the squab which was also very good. We went with the wine pairings which were paired nicely. We thought about a bottle and then realized it would be hard to match the courses. The cheese course was excellent. Best cheese cart I have seen. The fromager is great as is the sommelier. We love this place. Their game entrees in the fall are outstanding."

  • "We always come here expecting to be amazed - my companion's word - but part of what brings us back is not being able to predict exactly how we're going to be amazed. The chef, Terrance Brennan, is plainly a virtuoso who has more sense than to show off or startle - does he run after trends, or lead them? I don't know if he cares about that: His flavors are true and his combinations of them are right. Learning to cook myself years ago - though not at this level - gave me perspective on restaurants. I may wish I could eat here more often, but, that said, this is value for money, all the same."

  • "This elegant classic restaurant is always on our list of places to dine in NYC. Within walking distance of Lincoln Center, it is perfect for pre or post theatre dining. Service is impeccable. My husband and I selected the five course prixe dinner and it did not disappoint. Each course was delicious. I must commend their cheese service. I has old world elegance and an excellent selection. "

  • "classic, understated and lovely throughout. Delicious, wide selection of cheeses and wines; attentive service."

  • "We've always loved Picnoline, from nearly the date it first opened.the food is always an ecstatic experience. Our last visit, which was pre theater felt a little rushed and brusque. Last night, we went a little later and enjoyed a relaxed and delicious experience. The cheese art was especially fun."

  • "All of our party did the five course tasting menu, and we had one of the most incredible dinners. Each course was great as well as the small one bite intermediate courses that were an explosion of flavor. The wine pairings were also spot on and featured small wineries we've never hear of before. It was all great, but the cheese course was perhaps the most incredible. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion, anniversary, or just looking for a fancy meal at one of the nicest restaurants in NYC."

  • "My wife and I had our anniversary here. We had an outstanding dinner. They seated us in the back, which was very dark for us. We asked to be moved to the main dining room, which they did. The lighting was much better there. We had the 5 course tasting menu, which was excellent. The two appetizers for each of us were outstanding; my wife had the heirloom carrots and the fava bean tortelllini, and I had the duck and foie gras, and the risotto. For the entrees, we had the turbot and the scallops. The turbot was not very tasty. For the cheese tasting, we each had three cheeses. My wife told them that she was allergic strong cheeses. They made a big mistake in serving blue cheese to her. The desserts were fine. It was very quiet. "

  • "Can't be beat for pre-Lincoln center dining. Expensive yes but superb in all respects. If going to theater get there early as you don't want to rush this meal! Service is very attentive but not overwhelming. One of Manhattan's all time best"

  • "To be fair we enjoyed a chef's private tasting but I believe the attention to detail goes into every dish that leaves that kitchen. How many times have you been actively enjoying the meal and thought to yourself 'this is over the top outstanding?' Our dinner was and we will return for special occasions like this. Jeffery and the staff were on top of every detail, the presentation from quail eggs, to cauliflower soup, squab, passion fruit jelly treats, was just amazing (as one friend must have said 30 times). I cannot tell you three dishes to look for as we had eight presentations of such quality that it would be foolish to pick one (like cheese, because the cheese course is over the top)."

  • "Lovely, lovely meal with scattered amuses in between delectable courses, excellent service. Head waiter Eric knows his stuff and makes an already tempting menu that much more tantalizing. Bottom line, delicious, a meal worth savoring and lingering over, the evening's entertainment. Chef is creative without going overboard, lots of innovative dishes. Impressed by the pastry chef as well: Coffee Spoom, wow, and divine chocolates. Yum, yum, yum."

  • "Excellent, but not perfect. Bland risotto primavera, but good main courses with interesting flavors. Excellent wine list and knowledgeable sommelier. Superb cheese with detailed explanations (a signature aspect of the restaurant), but miniscule portions make it seem like caviar. For a relaxing West Side dinner, with is a great choice, but it would not rank as one of NYC's very best. "

  • "From the friendly bartender to the very attentive waitstaff to the inventive, great food and the fromagiere who loves her job and does it well, Picholine was a great, special date night experience. "

  • " From the champagne to the menus printed with Congratulations across the top, the serving staff treated us like beloved family. I started with risotto, my husband had the fava bean tortellini, and our daughter the pate. All delicious, with interesting flavor combinations and textures. For mains, two of us enjoyed scallops that were perfectly seared, while our daughter opted for skate -- a fish she'd never had before and enjoyed thoroughly. She ended with a cheese course, but because the restaurant knew it was her graduation night, they brought over a small chocolate cake, with CONGRATULATIONS written in chocolate across the plate. "

  • "Tortellini appetizer was very good. The squab entree was notably delicious. Otherwise, The accolades stop there. Fish and chips app was absolutely horrible, risotto app was boring with little flavor, and the carrot appetizers was just cold and weird. Skate, lamb, and Cobia entrees were cooked as expected, tasty but unremarkable for a restaurant of this caliber. Deserts were nothing remarkable. High expectations for this restaurant, but left feeling hungry and let down. "

  • "Picholine was wonderful for our anniversary celebration for 2! Had the 5-course tasting menu and it was great!! Very attentive service with just the right amount of attention. Small gourmet plates but we were definitely not left hungry! I would recommend for any special occasion !!"

  • "Excellent and unique food creations graciously served in a beautiful unpretentious setting. A rewarding respite from the chaos outside. A delicious way to prepare your senses for a performance at Lincoln Center. Take your time and enjoy a true gem, worth the gem-like prices."

  • "Restaurant was empty while neighboring restaurants were overflowing on a lovely spring evening in NY. Very expensive. Tiny portions. Food is delicious however. Waiter was a little abrupt and both my guest and I did not like him. This would be a great choice to bring my 85 year old mother in law to. Otherwise I would not go back"

  • "The food was outstanding, but the prices were outrageous. They have a $98 prix fix meal (wine inot included) which they offer you, but they don't give you any opportunity to order a la carte. The desert cheese tray was not available."
