PicholineA great meal, but a room too warmAfter a matinee play at Lincoln Center we came back in the evening to Picholine...and we were glad we did! Delicious, creatively prepared food, excellent wine list (at pretty reasonable prices by NYC standards). The only negative was that the room was too warm. We asked if they could lower the temp, but without much success. The service was otherwise attentive without being intrusive.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful Exceptional ExperienceThe restaurant is beautifully decorated in a very refined, understated but sophisticated manner. Tables nicely laid out and banquettes exceptionally comfortable. Dinner was excellent in every respect. Beautifully prepared with attentive, exceptional service that is warm helpful but not stuffy. The pre fixe menu is easy to understand and make decisions.
Expensive but worth every penny6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been going to PicholineI have been going to Picholine since 1992, and in every ocassion I visit NY I try but some times fail to get a reservation. we where fortunate to get a reservation. They where exceullent then and they ontinue to be excellent now. The food is extraordinary and the service could not be better6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCheese and ServiceI can't say enough about the cheese. The selection is excellent and as the optional final course in the prix fixe it is the perfect ending to a delicious meal. This place is very quiet, romantic, and great for when you want to go to a restaurant that truly cares about your experience.
The staff is swift and extremely professional; their pride really shows and I'm thankful for the dining experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing experience. From theAmazing experience. From the moment we stepped out of the cab in front of the resutaurant, until we said goodbye, this was an expeience all should enjoy. Just go. Bring your "wallet", but go.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you have not been in PicholineIf you have not been in Picholine lately you must give it a try!!!! New Chef de Cuisine, Brian Nasworthy done amazing facelift to old staples and his new addition to the menu are delightful. Loved the fresh, clean presentation (thank you for no more foam), and perfectly cooked (to order) fish. Yes, you must try new Picholine menu!!!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFine Dining & ServiceThe cuisine was of the highest quality & standards. The food presentation was artistic & entrees delicious all in one. The wait staff paid great attention to our every need and detail. The atmosphere creates an elegant dining experience!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb foodThis restaurant is a classic. Interesting and well-prepared food. We both had squab tagine that was outstanding with wonderful appetizers--fava bean agnolotti and rabbit and foie gras rillette. The sommelier is knowledgeable and the fromager is terrific. Outstanding cheese cart so why order dessert when the cheese is so outstanding. Service is top-notch--just what you would expect from this restaurant. Try to get the front room which is beautiful. Back room is fine but front room is charming.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood to be backIt was good to visit and find it better than ever and beautiful!! Service great...I recommend they improve their wine list and have a sommelier...if they do we never saw him...just a guy running around with bottles in his hand...to our table he never came!!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfection Looks So EasySumptuous decor, with an attentive, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Water glasses filled instantly, three choices of bread offered throughout the meal, wine poured without asking, many delicious complimentary gift offerings from the chef. Bursts of flavor. We had the eight-course vegetarian menu and the regular five-course menu with nary a disappointment, a rarity. Presentation was picture-perfect. Creative tableware. Great cheeses. Helpful sommelier. Food was presented by multiple waiters simultaneously. Plates and foods were appropriately hot. Coffee was superior with six types of sugar, and the cream was hot. This restaurant is superior in every way. It is fluid motion with all the stars in perfect alignment under a full moon.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTraditional and First ClassTruly a joyful experience. Great service, ambiance & food. Our guests love it, as we did. It brought me back to the time when fine dining was cherished and we took pride in how we dressed. Mutual respect for the establishment, food & patron live on at Picholine!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food, unmatched serviceEach course was presented artistically, and no fault could be found with flavoring. Even small gratuities from the kitchen - a warm picholine olive "gumdrop" with roasted tomato dust on a bed of fennel seed - provoked hums of appreciation in our group, for its delicate yet assertive tastes, each present, each distinguishable, neither masked nor mixed. The sommelier (ex-Cunard) chatted with our friends who sailed on the QM 2 a few days later, while directing us to wine pairings both delectable and apposite. The cheese server (is there a proper name for this person ? - she deserves one) was extremely helpful, a knowledgeable, mannered tour guide, capping our meal with a wonderful progression of flavors. All of the staff were marvelous. Bravo!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the best restaurantThis is the best restaurant in otwn for me . The savors are awesome and the service is perfect5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and romanticService and setting was impeccable. The chef's additions/ appetizers great. Only issue was slightly overcooked halibut.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful eveningwent before theatre - and the food and service were just amazing. They went above and beyond
fort Gluten-free needs. Truly a wonderful experience.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPicholine still excellentPicholine still excellent after 20 years! The chef continues to impress with an evening as good as being in Paris! One of New York's best restaurants.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNice for special occasionsService was impeccable. Food excellent. Only complaint is that main course was not hot enough.
Dessert cheeses were the specialty of the house and should be tried. There was a lief on the cheese plate
as a decoration and I don't know if you can eat those. Maybe a little over priced.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMLovelyOpen late for participants at lincoln center. Lovely, quiet and romantic restaurant for those who might prefer an alternative to the bistros nearby. Almost all menu items are outstanding. The cheese course is exceptional. Entres tend to be on the large side. Dined here many times with similar experiences.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOUTSTANDING!!!My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary and we had the most awesome eating experience. The attentive and meticulous staff went above and beyond our expectations.
We will be back again. Picholine made our anniversary dinner a very special and memorable one. :)5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, drink, service. We started at the bar, waiting for our party to arrive, enjoying very good martinis, which we took with us to the table.
We had the 3 course fixed menu, with wine pairings.
There is a choice of several starters, several entrees and a few deserts.
We tried three different combinations, all were excellent, well made, with interesting twists; the accompanying wines (and sake) were excellent and went well with the dishes.
Service was attentive and welcoming.
It was a very pleasant meal and evening.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing FoodBest food I've ever had in NYC, and Ive been to all the top 25 listed in Zagat! Only thing I would wish more of was for the wine steward to be a little more friendly. No smiles at all. All the other servers were attentive, kind, informative and wonderful.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat first ExperienceMy wife and I went to Picholine while in town for a Conference. This was our chance to celebrate a new beginning as we sell one business&open another. So we went big with the 8 course tasting menu and wine parings! I have to say that this was the most expensive dinner that we've had, and will probably have for quite some time! We appreciate fine dining, and this was a true culinary experience. The waitstaff and chefs were very accommodating as we had a 9:30 pm reservation, and started the tasting menu then, Sorry guys! Being in the business I know that kept everyone later! To our defense, we would have gone earlier but Open Table only showed 9:30 pm as an option, yet half the tables were open. I would recommend to anyone wanting to splurge!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a PleasureThis restaurant always delivers in ambience, service, exquisite food and out of this world cheese! I would not consider a trip to New York complete without a dining experience at Picholine.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant Evening OutHadn't been to Picholine for quite awhile but wanted to treat a friend to a birthday dinner before the ballet. We had such a wonderful meal and the service was fantastic that it reminded both of us to go back more often! And when you compare the value to restaurants near Lincoln Center without the elegant service of Picholine - the value is terrific. Loved it.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AM4,367.3 Miles To Perfection!I walked into the tranquil haven of Picholine's lovely French surroundings and was pampered for the next 75 minutes with taste after taste sensation. Order ala carte or choose a 2,3, or 5 course meal experience. In casual elegance I enjoyed a rabbit & froi gras app, followed by the most tender succulent medium rare lamb I have ever tasted. Several "bite of" creations to taste were offered to me by the chef. Beautifully appointed food of superior taste and quality. The sauces were to live for! The staff was helpful and attentive. Price was fair & well worth it. Now in my top five globally along with: The Delfino, Portofino, Italy, Jardinaire, San Francisco, Chart-well's Four Seasons, VanCouver BC, The Glacier Brew-house in Anchorage, Alaska.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal, great experienceWe went for Mother's Day brunch. The service, from the initial phone call to confirm our reservation through the moment we left the restaurant could not have been any better nor could they have been any nicer. Although they had a set brunch menu and a kids brunch menu, they graciously made items not on the menu for my son and added selections to the tasting menu for my wife. The food was creative and delicious, and the presentation was flawless. Highly recommended5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceExcellent food attractively presented, but more refined than imaginative. Quiet dignified atmosphere, but dimly lit with low ceilings. Attentive, accurate service, by knowledgable waitstaff. Quite expensive.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDate nightHad a great time! We had the vegetarian tasting menu, loved every course! Will definitely go here again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMreturned to this beauty forreturned to this beauty for anniversary They made the evening fab Gr8 food service and ambience they added special things to make evening more special Will return and not wait so long this time5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMpicholineGreat food! Great location to go to Lincoln Center. Good wine recommendations.
Good service, tho' messed up the billing. I'd go again.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOur special occasion restaurantOver the past two decades, We've gone to Picholine to celebrate very special occasion birthdays and anniversaries, and have never been disappointed. The food the service the ambience and the whole experience are all exceptional to create a really memorable evening. We'll definitely keep coming back!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSomewhat underwhelmingWe liked the food. However, my taste buds felt somewhat underwhelmed, relative to my experience at several other Michelin-rated restaurants in New York. Picholine may owe its fame more to its location near the MET, than to the taste of its food. The service was outstanding -- we were waited on by an attentive and polite staff. The best part of the restaurant for me, was the ambiance.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLike going to FranceThere is nothing to say. Terrance Brennan is a gifted, imaginative chef, and to be able to dine occasionally at Picholine is a great privilege.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCozy ...Intimate and small tables, with a very polite service and nice food ... Ideal for a romantic talk ... Also a place where you can stay with friends and having a real conversation.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe setting, food, serviceThe setting, food, service and ambience more than matched our expectations. It is definitely worthy of being a special occasion restaurant.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe separate vegetarian menuThe separate vegetarian menu was a pleasant surprise, and its dishes were fantastic. Beautiful presentation, tantalizing cuisine, attentive wait-staff. The newly renovated decor is a bit bland for my taste, but I have come to Picholine several times over the years and will come back again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect dinner!Everything about our visit was positive. The food was wonderful, the service was impeccable. We had the five course tasting menu and each was better that the one before.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSomehow I remembered the decorSomehow I remembered the decor as more gracious.. Beige walls are boring! Colorful cases and flowers might add some warmth.
Wait staff is attentive but a little pretentious. If you are dining here, you have a knowledge of food and wine...wait staff do not need to explain what "confit" is..
Cheese service remains a noteworthy experience.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit and very happy.First visit and very happy. Recommended by a friend tried this restaurant just before opera at the MET.
Did the three course pri-fixed meal with wine pairing.
Everything was perfect. The only con which has nothing to do with eating here is that I felt the dining room we were in looked sterile.
They needed more pizzazz on the walls or more alluring lighting.
Portions were decent and left the place full and happy.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMQuality of the food and serviceQuality of the food and service is first rate and it is pricey. Prix Fixe at $95. Special occasions...very special!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother fantastic restaurant.Another fantastic restaurant. one of the best prix fix meals we've ever tried together with excellent service and ambiance4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMJust impeccable! The foodJust impeccable! The food is outstanding and the service is impressive. You must experience the cheeses.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a DelightWe had a wonderful pre-theatre dinner at Picholine. From their delicious amuse bouche and picholine olive bread to the macarons and candies that came after dinner, all of our dishes were heavenly. This restaurant never disappoints.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPicholine has always beenPicholine has always been one of our favorite restaurants and has never disappointed. The food and the presentation have always been exquisite; the service has always been impeccable; the noise level has always been remarkably low. This time was more of the same: every part of the dining equaled what we have experienced before. We already are looking forward to our next visit.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our best dinning experiencesOne of our best dinning experiences. The food was outstanding and the service none less. Definitely will be back!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding serviceWe arrived late for our reservation, and had to make a 7PM curtain time at the Met. They were extremely helpful and courteous, and managed to make a quick meal an outstanding experience. My risotto appetizer was delicious, as was the butter-poached halibut. A wonderful selection of cheeses was created for us as we confessed we didn't really know what to order. I'd love to return when we have more time.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first visit. Pre-theatreOur first visit. Pre-theatre service and timing were impeccable. The formal dining room is complimented by a relaxed quiet and friendly atmosphere. From the moment we walked in we were sincerely welcomed and cared for which added to the marvelous tastes we experienced with crab & avocado Roulade, Duck & Foie gras Rillette, and Thomas Farm Squab. Each of these gave us subtle and rare taste treats. Wonderful cheese selections are an alternative to sweets for dessert. We will certainly be back!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThere were five of us so weThere were five of us so we were seated - to our surprise and pleasure - in a private room/wine cellar which housed us and a collection of wonderful wines. The experience could not have been better.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI took a dear friend of mine,I took a dear friend of mine, and the meal was outstanding! Service excellent...warm, friendly, attentive.
This restaurant has always been a favorite of mine. Perfect for a special occasion. And, always exceeds my expectations.
The little "extras" are marvelous. Highest rating in my book!
