Picholineamazing FoodBest food I've ever had in NYC, and Ive been to all the top 25 listed in Zagat! Only thing I would wish more of was for the wine steward to be a little more friendly. No smiles at all. All the other servers were attentive, kind, informative and wonderful.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat first ExperienceMy wife and I went to Picholine while in town for a Conference. This was our chance to celebrate a new beginning as we sell one business&open another. So we went big with the 8 course tasting menu and wine parings! I have to say that this was the most expensive dinner that we've had, and will probably have for quite some time! We appreciate fine dining, and this was a true culinary experience. The waitstaff and chefs were very accommodating as we had a 9:30 pm reservation, and started the tasting menu then, Sorry guys! Being in the business I know that kept everyone later! To our defense, we would have gone earlier but Open Table only showed 9:30 pm as an option, yet half the tables were open. I would recommend to anyone wanting to splurge!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a PleasureThis restaurant always delivers in ambience, service, exquisite food and out of this world cheese! I would not consider a trip to New York complete without a dining experience at Picholine.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AM4,367.3 Miles To Perfection!I walked into the tranquil haven of Picholine's lovely French surroundings and was pampered for the next 75 minutes with taste after taste sensation. Order ala carte or choose a 2,3, or 5 course meal experience. In casual elegance I enjoyed a rabbit & froi gras app, followed by the most tender succulent medium rare lamb I have ever tasted. Several "bite of" creations to taste were offered to me by the chef. Beautifully appointed food of superior taste and quality. The sauces were to live for! The staff was helpful and attentive. Price was fair & well worth it. Now in my top five globally along with: The Delfino, Portofino, Italy, Jardinaire, San Francisco, Chart-well's Four Seasons, VanCouver BC, The Glacier Brew-house in Anchorage, Alaska.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant Evening OutHadn't been to Picholine for quite awhile but wanted to treat a friend to a birthday dinner before the ballet. We had such a wonderful meal and the service was fantastic that it reminded both of us to go back more often! And when you compare the value to restaurants near Lincoln Center without the elegant service of Picholine - the value is terrific. Loved it.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal, great experienceWe went for Mother's Day brunch. The service, from the initial phone call to confirm our reservation through the moment we left the restaurant could not have been any better nor could they have been any nicer. Although they had a set brunch menu and a kids brunch menu, they graciously made items not on the menu for my son and added selections to the tasting menu for my wife. The food was creative and delicious, and the presentation was flawless. Highly recommended5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceExcellent food attractively presented, but more refined than imaginative. Quiet dignified atmosphere, but dimly lit with low ceilings. Attentive, accurate service, by knowledgable waitstaff. Quite expensive.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDate nightHad a great time! We had the vegetarian tasting menu, loved every course! Will definitely go here again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMreturned to this beauty forreturned to this beauty for anniversary They made the evening fab Gr8 food service and ambience they added special things to make evening more special Will return and not wait so long this time5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMpicholineGreat food! Great location to go to Lincoln Center. Good wine recommendations.
Good service, tho' messed up the billing. I'd go again.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOur special occasion restaurantOver the past two decades, We've gone to Picholine to celebrate very special occasion birthdays and anniversaries, and have never been disappointed. The food the service the ambience and the whole experience are all exceptional to create a really memorable evening. We'll definitely keep coming back!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCozy ...Intimate and small tables, with a very polite service and nice food ... Ideal for a romantic talk ... Also a place where you can stay with friends and having a real conversation.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSomewhat underwhelmingWe liked the food. However, my taste buds felt somewhat underwhelmed, relative to my experience at several other Michelin-rated restaurants in New York. Picholine may owe its fame more to its location near the MET, than to the taste of its food. The service was outstanding -- we were waited on by an attentive and polite staff. The best part of the restaurant for me, was the ambiance.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLike going to FranceThere is nothing to say. Terrance Brennan is a gifted, imaginative chef, and to be able to dine occasionally at Picholine is a great privilege.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe setting, food, serviceThe setting, food, service and ambience more than matched our expectations. It is definitely worthy of being a special occasion restaurant.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe separate vegetarian menuThe separate vegetarian menu was a pleasant surprise, and its dishes were fantastic. Beautiful presentation, tantalizing cuisine, attentive wait-staff. The newly renovated decor is a bit bland for my taste, but I have come to Picholine several times over the years and will come back again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect dinner!Everything about our visit was positive. The food was wonderful, the service was impeccable. We had the five course tasting menu and each was better that the one before.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSomehow I remembered the decorSomehow I remembered the decor as more gracious.. Beige walls are boring! Colorful cases and flowers might add some warmth.
Wait staff is attentive but a little pretentious. If you are dining here, you have a knowledge of food and wine...wait staff do not need to explain what "confit" is..
Cheese service remains a noteworthy experience.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit and very happy.First visit and very happy. Recommended by a friend tried this restaurant just before opera at the MET.
Did the three course pri-fixed meal with wine pairing.
Everything was perfect. The only con which has nothing to do with eating here is that I felt the dining room we were in looked sterile.
They needed more pizzazz on the walls or more alluring lighting.
Portions were decent and left the place full and happy.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMQuality of the food and serviceQuality of the food and service is first rate and it is pricey. Prix Fixe at $95. Special occasions...very special!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother fantastic restaurant.Another fantastic restaurant. one of the best prix fix meals we've ever tried together with excellent service and ambiance4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMJust impeccable! The foodJust impeccable! The food is outstanding and the service is impressive. You must experience the cheeses.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a DelightWe had a wonderful pre-theatre dinner at Picholine. From their delicious amuse bouche and picholine olive bread to the macarons and candies that came after dinner, all of our dishes were heavenly. This restaurant never disappoints.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPicholine has always beenPicholine has always been one of our favorite restaurants and has never disappointed. The food and the presentation have always been exquisite; the service has always been impeccable; the noise level has always been remarkably low. This time was more of the same: every part of the dining equaled what we have experienced before. We already are looking forward to our next visit.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our best dinning experiencesOne of our best dinning experiences. The food was outstanding and the service none less. Definitely will be back!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding serviceWe arrived late for our reservation, and had to make a 7PM curtain time at the Met. They were extremely helpful and courteous, and managed to make a quick meal an outstanding experience. My risotto appetizer was delicious, as was the butter-poached halibut. A wonderful selection of cheeses was created for us as we confessed we didn't really know what to order. I'd love to return when we have more time.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first visit. Pre-theatreOur first visit. Pre-theatre service and timing were impeccable. The formal dining room is complimented by a relaxed quiet and friendly atmosphere. From the moment we walked in we were sincerely welcomed and cared for which added to the marvelous tastes we experienced with crab & avocado Roulade, Duck & Foie gras Rillette, and Thomas Farm Squab. Each of these gave us subtle and rare taste treats. Wonderful cheese selections are an alternative to sweets for dessert. We will certainly be back!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThere were five of us so weThere were five of us so we were seated - to our surprise and pleasure - in a private room/wine cellar which housed us and a collection of wonderful wines. The experience could not have been better.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI took a dear friend of mine,I took a dear friend of mine, and the meal was outstanding! Service excellent...warm, friendly, attentive.
This restaurant has always been a favorite of mine. Perfect for a special occasion. And, always exceeds my expectations.
The little "extras" are marvelous. Highest rating in my book!
MLZ4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA hidden gem!Excellent service, high quality and delicately prepared food, peaceful ambiance, will definitely come back again!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure. Food wasAlways a pleasure.
Food was sublime and beautifu service.
We have been dining at Picholine sice it opened.
The very first restaurant to offer a cheese course!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant - we reallyGreat restaurant - we really enjoyed it and would definitely return.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat vegetarian menu. A pleasantGreat vegetarian menu. A pleasant surprise for a restaurant like this. Wine pairings were interesting and delicious.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWent there for a dinner beforeWent there for a dinner before NY Philharmonic concert at Lincoln Center. The location was perfect, one block away from Avery Fisher Hall.
Reserved at 5pm for 8pm show. Ordered Prix Fixe menu, except my wife ordered the special entree, Lamb, which was a little undercooked and was additional $12, which was not mentioned in the menu or by the waiter. Otherwise, everything was excellent. Finished the meal at around 6:30pm, plenty of time left to get to the Lincoln Center.
Overall, the experience was great.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Excellent food & service. Great prefix menu with very creative dishes - we can't wait to return to try their other options!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding andThe food was outstanding and the service exceptional. The most unusual and nicest was the FLEXIBLE MENU!!! There were 2,3,& 5 course options;however, they were unbelievably accommodating. The menu had great selection and we were encouraged to choose what we wanted and they would adjust the portions depending on the number and placement of the courses. We could choose from any of the “appetizers,” main choices, or from the tasting menu and create, in any order, our meal as we wanted. I chose three, my wife two, and it was fantastic. I have never before experienced such freedom and this feature alone makes it worth checking out --but I suspect you will be back for the food.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBlissWhen I made the reservation on Opentable I mentioned it was our 30th wedding anniversary. They really made it a special occassion; "happy anni ersary" written across the top of our menus, a special dessert and glasses of champagne at the end of our amazing dinner. Their wine list is worth studying carefully as the choices are fabulous.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery formal, hushed diningVery formal, hushed dining room with an abundance of waitstaff and excellent food.Back dining room so dimly lit it was difficult to read the menu.Decor could use some livening up--perhaps more fresh flowers or artwork.Cod entree was fantastic but crab-avocado appetizer was too bland.Least expensive glass of white wine is $17--yikes!Lovely chocolates presented at end of meal--a nice touch.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMRather disappointing! In spiteRather disappointing! In spite of spending over $400 on dinner, I found the flavors to be uninspired (sea bass steamed in curry broth--oh yeah, I remember 1994), and sometimes unpleasantly strange (tapioca chips, marshmallows with Chinese 5 spice powder). For a restaurant of this caliber, I expect a memorable dining experience, not to feel that I wasted my money.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb, as it always is. WhatSuperb, as it always is. What more can be said about a true classic?3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect for grabbing dinnerperfect for grabbing dinner and a show. We were out in time and service was excellent. Would definitely recommend!!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly staff and amazingFriendly staff and amazing food. Highly recommended if you are going to see an opera show as it is few minutes from the metropolitan opera house.12/28/2012 12:00:00 AMTo Dine, Not Just EatThough the new decor is as conservative as you can get, cuisine here is ambrosial.Taste arrives in a succession of layers. Unexpected seasoning invariably brings out the best of an artisanal meal. Courses are beautifully presented while, unlike some of the newer establishments, still recognizable.Service is gracious and coordinated for the table.Music is mercifully kept as background. This is a place for which to dress a bit and dine, not eat. Chef Brennan was in and out of the dining room, apparently not forsaking the restaurant for other celebrity pursuits.A treat.12/13/2012 12:00:00 AM
