Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, awesome service. Our all time favorite place for special occasions!"

  • "There is no better restaurant in Minneapolis. The creative, ever-changing menu is superb. Do not be put off by the multiple small dish format. There is no better way to be rewarded."

  • "We wanted to go somewhere we had never gone to for our Anniversary dinner. Piccolo had gotten GREAT reviews, and we were not disappointed. It was intimate, and not at all stuffy. Located in a darling neighborhood. The staff was welcoming, and professional. We were asked if we had questions about the tasting menu. The food was delightful, as the courses were set before us, each one was described. The chef was in house , we were told that we could meet him. Given a pre dessert chocolate course as an acknowledgment of our Anniversary. Thanked by our very gracious server for celebrating with them. We both agreed it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. We will be going back & recommending it to our friends"

  • "Excellent food- the brown scrambled eggs and scallops were delicious- I like how the food is very outside the box, however it's not intimidating and is excellent for those with all different tastes. Would definitely recommend, service was good- a bit aloof but I prefer that over intrusive :) thanks for a great first visit!"

  • "A great place to have a couple of delectable morsels over a couple of hours. The food I great and offers a chance to try realing interesting dishes that are very well constructed. Just be conscious that the point at Piccolo is to taste the food, not just satiate your appetite."

  • "Four if us went for dinner. We are from out of town and went on a recommendation from a friends cousin. The food was phenomenal. All four of us, including my 17 year old "foodie" daughter were impressed. We had the tasting menu, which we thought was resonablly priced. It did not disappoint. From beginning to end the plates got better and better. Our food server suggested we try a few things Yhat were out of our comfort zone, so we did. She was right! I highly recommend it, it was excellent."

  • "There are many good foodie restaurants in the Twin Cities but Piccolo is all about the presentation and taste - no hype just an incredible set of memorable experiences with flavors and taste experiences! Small portion sizes allow for more options - don't be put off by provocative descriptors in the menu - take a leap and try it all."

  • "Inventive and interesting food, creative presentations, moderate portions, attentive service, and you can actually have a real conversation without having to yell. We love Piccolo. And we were treated royally for our wedding anniversary. Even a hand-signed card by the staff working that evening. Thanks, Piccolo."

  • "The food was absolutely divine. The dishes were prepared and tasted so exceptionally well that they reminded me of the time when my wife and I dined at Lasarte in Barcelona. For those of you unfamiliar with Lasarte; it's a two Michelin star restaurant and I highly recommend it as well."

  • "We had a dining experience to recommend to all who love incredible taste in food as well as artistry in plating. We have eaten all over the world; this hometown treasure is the best we have had in Minnesota due to the freshness of each dish and the distinct yet subtle flavors."

  • "This was an amazing dining experience. My sister and mother were visiting from the East Coast and we all consider ourselves foodies. The menu is small (5 courses, 3 choices for each), so you can order a la carte or get the tasting menu (1 choice from each course). We were a group of 3, so we we all ordered the tasting menu, everything on the menu. Every item was carefully crafted and beautifully presented. The flavors were so complex and artfully combined, it was impossible to figure out how the chef did it. Fresh, interesting, flavorful ingredients too numerous to mention came dish after dish. The wine list is quite interesting. The servers are professional and knowledgeable, attentive but not overbearing. Highly recommended!"

  • "I have to admit that the night before dining at Piccolo I dined at Alinea. After the Alinea experience, I feel like I can never give 5 stars. If there was a way to enter 4.5 stars I would. I dined with my 19 year-old daughter who is nearly as much a foodie as I am. We both ordered the 5-course tasting menu and shared each plate--so in essence we each had 10 courses (plus cheese makes 11). The food was beautifully prepared, inventively designed, and creatively executed. If I have any criticism it is that while the dining room is sparsely appointed, the plates of food are almost overly-appointed. What I mean is that it seemed that some of the items on the plates seemed superfluous. That said, highly recommended--especially for you foodies."

  • "everything was delicious we ordered individual plates rather than doing the tasting menu because we weren't hungry enough for five courses each. My only disappointment was that the dining room is so small it feels like other diners are right on top of you. For a romantic dinner we didn't have much privacy."

  • "Went to Piccolo on special occasion and was very delighted with food tasting menu and restaurant in Minneapolis proper. Creative choices, contemporary composed, perfect timing from servers and friendly too. However, small plates were all very small for price. I would expect that the main course would have been a little larger than starter, etc... Good thing we ate late lunch or would have gone home hungry. I would recommend trying, a good find!"

  • "Masterfully combined food with artistic presentation along with stellar service! Silver replaced with each course!"

  • "Excellent service is the first thing noticed. The food can speak for itself as the flavors, textures - the true nature of the ingredients are revealed as the night progresses. The pacing of the meal is exact, allowing the needed time to contemplate and discuss each course and make ready for the next. One hears that other people are talking but that's all, those conversations never ties above an ambient presence. The best dining experience ever in the Twin Cities at the high end of the spectrum and a completely worthwhile evening, cannot wait to experience their Autumn menu."

  • "After hearing of Piccolo for months, my wife and I finally visited it. Piccolo is all about the dining experience. It is neither cheap nor are the portions large, but the food is to be savored, both in taste and presentation. The restaurant is borderline pretentious, but that's also what makes it special. My wife and I look forward to returning soon."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal at Piccolo. Being from Louisiana, we know what good food is and Piccolo didn't disappoint! One of the top meals Ive had in my life!! Anyone visiting Minneapolis should give Piccolo a try. You wont be disappointed! "

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 21st Anniversary here. It was our first time at Piccolo and ww were blown away. The quality, precision and perfection of the food was top notch. Many less typical ingredients (Rabbit liver, Halibut cheeks, beef navel...) prepared beautifully and deliciously, combining flavors and textures that made every course feel like a wonderful adventure inside Doug Flicker's creative mind. Very nice wine list as well. Highly recommend the 5-course tasting menu. Portions are small, but still felt like a good value based on the quality and taste. Service was attentive, thoughtful and helpful. We will definitely be back! "

  • "Come for the food. Nod to molecular gastronomy in the powdered olive oil, etc. We thought the tasting menu would be too much food but it was not - be aware the portions are tiny. "

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary and decided to splurge a little. It was so so so worth it! From the moment we were greeted at the door to the saying goodnight to the staff two hours later our experience was amazing. There's the feeling that you are doing something special. The food is out of this world. Chef Doug Flicker is an artist and his attention to detail is stunning. Every plate was a pleasure to all the senses and it never felt overwhelming. Thank you for the staff for making us feel so welcomed and at ease. We will be back for sure!"

  • "Large dishes tiny portions. Nice endive salad. Beautiful but to small to photograph even with zoom. Chicken entree was 60% fat. Tasteless. Repoted to server at which time he said we will note that. Not can we get you something else or we will remove from check. Not worth trying again. "

  • "Came here with my dining partner and we each choose to go with the 5-course tasting menu. A couple of the courses were misses (that butter cake desert with pickled rhubarb...I'm not sure that should be on the desert menu), but the rest were delicious and very creative. Great wine list with some local options. The ambiance was sort of forgettable, but the service was great. One of the best dining experiences I have had in Minneapolis in terms of food."

  • "My husband and I had heard that Piccolo's was a great restaurant and we weren't disappointed. We chose to celebrate his birthday there and had the 5 course tasting menu. Presentation and flavors were divine! An added touch was the birthday card signed by the kitchen and serving staff - a perfect ending to a wonderful experience. We will be back!"

  • "What a gem! The food is delightfully presented and exquisite in their balance of tastes and flavors. The service is attentive without hovering and the ambience is intimate. Kudos to the chef and his team. Bravo and encore visits with friends for sure. We will sing its praise to others who dine out often. "

  • "Food was excellent Portions were small We were overcharged. We shared 3 small plates plus bottle of wine but was charged for 4 small plates. Did not realize the mistake until I arrvived home. Extra $10.00 charged. "

  • "My wife and I tried Piccolo for Valentines Day. Its expensive but TOTALLY worth it. As a Foodie, I found their experimentation with flavors and styles delightful. Every part of our meal was a small adventure, because their chef clearly knew WAY more about the intricacies of food than we did. And it was all to our benefit. The service was excellent, too! Our server was efficient and attentive, and took very good care of us. We are lucky to have such a nice restaurant in our neighborhood."

  • "The food options are very creative, very gourmet and very small....i.e. you will appreciate this if you feel you are a food snob...and that's a good thing. So many inventive options but hard to share the selection because each plate only consists of 1 to 2 bites....but that being said the prices are reasonable enough that you don't really have to share, you just want to because everything sounds so amazing and everything is! The three of us got the tasting menu for $55 each and had everything on the menu! The three desserts were outstanding...coconut milk with compressed mango and crispy ginger, a chocolate cake with beet curd, lemon relish and goat cheese ice cream and a peanut butter mousse with grape gel and pretzel ice cream....yum."

  • "Our first (but not last!) visit to Piccolo was a revelation--what a great concept, and so beautifully carried out! Yes, the restaurant is small, and beautifully designed. The menu is also all small (a few almost tiny) dishes, but all impeccably prepared and presented--in fact, I don't think I've ever seen presentation as elegantly done anywhere else. The combination of flavors in each dish is creative, sometimes surprising, but the result is always delicious. I leave only one warning--what may seem at first to be very reasonable pricing is, when you eat your fill (which may require 3-4-5 dishes instead of the usual 1-2-3), in line with other fine restaurants in town."

  • "If you want to have a unique dinning experience Piccolo is it! They have perfected the art of unusual combinations of foods and spices on a small plate. Each one is an tasty surprise with a wonderful presentation! Try some of the wines by the glass as they are hand picked to enhance the many dishes. Our server was very informative and one of the best I have crossed paths with! A true fine dinning experience! "

  • "A friend and I visited for a special birthday dinner and were extremely disappointed. The chef seems more intent on unique descriptions of the food and presentation than actually quality. The crab was extremely fishy, the chicken tasted like processed meat, and there were no options for a simple salad or side for interested eaters.. We had to inquire about several ingredients because the menu is written to impress rather than inform. While the majority of the food was disappointing, the egg and pigs foot (basically small bits of fried pork) was delicious. The wine list was fairly good, the service quite nice and the ambiance lovely. "

  • "We feel Piccolo is the most inventive and creative restaurant in Minneapolis. Our younger guests were also impressed by the unique flavors and gorgeous presentation. This is an amazing dining experience for the neighborhood. The service was great and our server kept up with my husband's banter. We love the smaller portions because it leaves you wanting more and ready for the next course. Well worth the expense for a delightful culinary adventure."

  • "This small plate restaurant is a Twin Cities gem. Doug is simply brilliant in his combinations. You need to share the dishes to appreciate more of the options. The servers who have worked there since the beginning are knowledgeable and helpful. The wine list is very approachable. There are bargains as well as some high end wines. Quite a good list. "

  • "We had the 5 plate dinner. The portions became slightly larger toward the end when maybe it should've been the other way round. I have never seen mushrooms that minute before, really bordering on mildew. There was no salad though watercress made an appearance, a single, graceful sprig. It was impossible to talk to each other (2 of us) across the table. This may not always be true. Our experience was seriously affected by the relationship of our waiter to another much more important patron at the table next to us, very close. We heard a lot about the wonderful food but in our opinion it went beyond exquisite into silly. "

  • "it was a very small restaurant in a residential area.. would not have noticed it as a restaurant if just walking pass by. there were not that many tables so definitely need reservations. food was very unique although the restaurant does not look as fancy as the food presentation.. we had a good time.
