Diner Reviews
  • "I had heard great things for the last couple years and finally got around to trying it. I got the duck and my girlfriend got the rabbit. Both were outstanding."

  • "The restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint."

  • "The veal chops were tasteless. We have been eating here since it opened. The last two times the veal hasn't been good. The fish is wonderful as are the salads."

  • "Friends raved about this place so I suppose that I had high expectations. My fiancé and I were both slightly disappointed because the sauce on our pasts was nothing special and the mussels tasted strange. The clams and shrimp were very good though. My mother wasn't that impressed with the brandy sauce on her entree either. I'm from NYC, so was really hoping to find that this place was amazing like so many of my nyc favorites, but it def was not. Patio area was gorgeous though!"

  • "THe ravoli was really under cooked and inedible, should have sent it back......"

  • "Had another wonderful dinner this week at Piccolo Sogno. Got a great seat outside and the waiter split the salad, and two pasta dishes into two plates, for my friend and I, without even being asked! He had great recommendations. So glad I finally got to dine on the patio!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinner here, thought the pasta dishes were outstanding and enjoyed the bread as well. Nice selection of wines by the glass, too. The patio is popular for good reason - a lovely oasis on a nice evening. We will return."

  • "Located between the Metra tracks and one of Chicago's craziest vehicular interestions lies this gem of a restaurant. The outdoor setting is amazing as it makes you forget all about the city and your stress, and you journey to rural Italy. The only flaw was our waiter. The kiss of death - he repeatedly disappeared for 10 minutes or more at a time. And this was lunch! Adding to this irritation, the other waiters seemed oblivious to my high sign - we were literally ignored. Luckily we were not in a hurry, but the service was terrible for an upscale city lunch. Summary: Wonderful setting. Amazing italian food. This should have been 5 stars all the way, but alas on this day it was not."

  • "This restaurant is wonderful in every way. Also notable for the fact that even though it was a week night, patrons were really dressed up, looking like they were out for a very special occasion. Seen too infrequently these days. The outside patio is gorgeous."

  • "Perhaps it was unfair of me to go to Piccolo Sogno so quickly after having been in Italy. The caprese was fresh and my favorite part of the meal. My ravioli were overcooked and somewhat bland. As the portions are generous, had too little room for dessert. We had a perfect evening for the outdoor setting which is a treasure in the city."

  • "Dined recently with out of town guests. We ordered several items and everybody loved their selections. Outdoor dining delightful. Service friendly and attentive. Friends comment to me "Great pick"."

  • "One of the best restaurants in the City. Great place for a romantic dinner out on a Classic Chicago Summer evening."

  • "We trained to the city and were transported to Italy for a wonderful romantic lunch on the edge of the garden patio. With an antipasto of stuffed squash blossoms, a primi of wild mushrooms pasta, a salad of spinach with wood roasted shredded duck, and secondis of grilled seafood and stewed rabbit, it was a 2.5 hour gourmet birthday feast. The bottle of prosecco and the delicious saffron panne cotta and biscotti finished everything off to perfection. The best part is that another time we could just go for a glass of wine and a pizza or a panini. It's the best of Italy right here in Chicago. So glad we walked it off all the way to Navy Pier!"

  • "Disappointing; food hard to swallow.......wine list very misleading. Service okay, Italian restaurant with no Italians (wait staff) in sight."
    Dined on 7/13/2014
  • "This restaurant is predictably great for lunch. It has the most beautiful outdoor garden in the city, and the cuisine and wine are excellent. We are regular restaurant goers, and this is one of two or three places I recommend without reservation to all out-of-townl guests."

  • "This remains one of the most popular Italian restaurants in Chicago. The food is always well prepared, though the menu could use some updating. The service is professional, but the last few times we visited, the hostesses seem to find the least desirable table for us. They should make a better effort to truly recognize their regular customers."

  • "Fabulous! The renown outside patio is stellar....but know that the setting includes wonderful food!"

  • "Piccolo Sogno is a must for an alfresco summer meal. Not only is the setting beautiful, the food and service are outstanding! I can't wait to return!"
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "Piccolo Sogno is one of our favorite restaurants, but our last meal was a combination of great dishes (a "gaspaccho" soup) and awful ones (the seafood mixed grill appetizer was mostly WAY overcooked - shrimp and octopus, calamari was prepared perfectly). The ambiance has also dramatically changed. It's garden no longer feels intimate. It used to be a great date venue. No longer."

  • "The only thing I can say is that it was fantastic. The food was great as well as the service."

  • "I always come to Piccolo Sogno in the summertime for a romantic night on the outdoor patio. I made reservations in advance and upon my arrival, I still had to wait about 25 minutes (after being told it would just be 5) to be seated; just for a party of two. Our waiter took another 15 minutes to come over, and we had to ask for the wine list 3 times before he actually brought it. The busboy (I wish I would have gotten his name) was FAR more hardworking and considerate than the waiter."

  • "We had reservations, but it took a minute for us to be seated. And this restaurant is cited as a romantic spot, but the seats are a little too tightly packed for that element (at least at 6pm on a Sunday). Nonetheless the backyard garden is beautiful and the staff recognized that we were celebrating a birthday without me having to say so (I stated it in my reservation notes but did not mention it at the restaurant) -- so that was great. Good service, good food, and so conveniently close to the blue line."

  • "Amazing set up, fabulous food and FANTASTIC SERVICE! Ricardo gave us a top notch service. WAs very nice of him to give us heads up that the fish of the day would take about 30 min to get out. We just enjoyed our antipasta and a beautiful outdoor seating"

  • "Best outdoor dining spot in the city. Perfect for a business lunch. The food is fantastic and it's easy to sit outside."

  • "It doesn't get any better than dining on the outdoor patio/garden here. The Italian food is as good as it gets and the setting is beautiful!"

  • "Of course, the food is wonderful! The setting, either inside or outside, is very attractive. The service is great. This is certainly my favorite restaurant in the city and would be delighted to go there any time."

  • "Piccolo Sogno will exceed all of your expectations. The patio is the best in America. Really beautiful. The food is 5 star all the way. Gabrielle P does a great job! Ask for him to wait on your table. All his menu suggestions are delicious!!! Go to Piccolo Sogno. You will enjoy!!!!!"

  • "This is a top restaurant in Chicago. And if you throw in the fantastic outdoor dining in the summer it catapults it into it's own stratosphere. Every aspect has a superior quality."

  • "The food was excellent, the service was just right, and the outdoor seating great. Also it's location is fantastic ... easy access from the burbs."

  • "Fantastic, friendly, welcoming service. The food is even better. The branzino special is great. The Spaghett Neri is the best pasta dish, maybe best dish, I've ever had. Pasta is as good as, if not better than Spiaggia and you're in a more fun, less stuffy, and less expensive atmosphere. The back patio in the summer is beautiful. I love this place. "

  • "Dined out for our anniversary. The food was great. Service was a bit spotty as the room filled up all at once because there was a Blackhawks game that night. Waiter seemed a bit over whelmed. Still the food impressed! "

  • "We came to celebrate our anniversary and are happy we did. From beginning to end it was an excellent meal in a beautiful setting. Our favorites were the soft shell crab special entree, the spinach gnocchi & pear/arugula salad. The service & ambience make the excellent food even better! We'll be back."

  • "After an excellent first experience during a business trip, a year later dinner was not so memorable. Bad advice on wine and my rabbit (which I was told was superb) was rather dry and the size of a chipmunk. My friend's dinner was also pretty average. Staff were friendly and still had an enjoyable evening but the food was uninspiring."

  • "On a Thursday night my husband and I had a lovely, delicious dinner on the patio of Piccolo Sogno. The fava bean salad was a unique treat and the pastas were wonderful. Hazelnut lava cake with hazelnut ice cream was rich and flavorful. The very next day, after our granddaughter's 8th grade graduation, we were looking for a place for lunch, and someone suggested Piccolo Sogno. Our son called, and they said to come right over. So we found ourselves again on the patio, with a quickly set table for 9, and a group of servers who seemed dedicated just to us; and they were particularly patient and friendly to the 3 children. The cozze (mussels) appetizer was particularly good, as was the orechiette with veal sauce! Two great meals in a row!"
