The restaurant was very accomodating and had a great atmosphere of old world Italian. Food was very good and fresh. Prices were somewhat high, so not a place we'd go on a regular basis. We were there for my mom's birthday dinner and unfortunately, as the place got busier, they forgot her and my daughter's capuccinos

We had a 7 pm reservation on a Sat. Night. The place was packed and we were seated immediately. So packed they were temporarily out of menus, but our waiter described all of the speacials and said they would make anything we want. Service was a little slow, but that was to be expected and we were with another couple we hadn't seen for a while and we needed time to catch up anyway. Even with all the chaos, the food was spectaular as always ( I come here every chance I get to Astoria). this is easily the best restaurant in Queens and one of the best in NY. It is worth a trip from anywhere. One of the finest wine lists you will ever see. (try the Marchese @ $75 it's a steal).

Everytime I return to Piccola Venezia it just keeps getting better and better. The food and service are great!! The only complaint I had was they had the air conditioner on in March and that it was too cold so bring your jacket. Can't wait to return!! :)

Piccola Venezia is my favorite restaurant in NYC. It's not in Manhattan but Astoria. It is still family owned and feels this way from the moment you leave the car with the valet. (Yes, a restaurant you can drive to! No cost, just tip the valet nicely.) Family and waiters alike kiss you hello. The excellent staff never changes and has been there forever. Specials are displayed as if you just entered a restaurant in Milan or Venice. It is northern Italian food, and it is delicious. The pumpkin ravioli is outstanding -- I've never had better. Seafood is served perfectly chilled. Meats perfectly fresh and done. Lots of fresh fish -- anyway you would like it prepared. An absolute treat. Also, they kindly welcome three generations!

The staff was really very nice. this was a birthday dinner and my brothers and sister with our spouses were all looking forward to a good meal. What we got was something else. The Fried calamari was chewy and fishy, the waiter admitted to the fact that this happens regularly. I never had worse pasta in my life. The risotto was chewy, overly salted and generally bad. Even the salads were nothing special if not just bad, they left a lot to be desired. Entrees were just acceptable. A grilled veal chop, Snapper Livornese were to two best dishes. we ran out without a desert or coffee. I would not go back. It was $550.00 including tip. that is a lot of money for a really bad dinner.

We were a party of 4 people. Two thought their main course (which was the same for both) was very good. Two of us did not--the broiled fish was too dry and the scallops overcooked as well. The waiter was very nice but I would still not give the service high praise.

  • A Big Let Down
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 12/5/2011
We were out celebrating my wife's birthday and the service was borderline terrible. Our waiter took an exceedingly long time in coming to take our order; he was too busy talking to another guest to be bothered. Then after we were given our meals, he never came back to check on us. We assume our waiter took one look at us and figured we weren't likely to give a big tip so he chose to focus his energies elsewhere. As a result, he didn't get a big tip; much lower than he would have received if he had treated us respectfully. I had heard good things about the restaurant, especially in regards to the service, so I was especially disappointed with our time there. We won't be coming back.

I love this place! We had a 12 top and not one complaint! The grilled octopus is the best I have ever had! Osso Bucco made with veal or lamb is delicious. We ordered 2 items off menu for our kids and it was no problem. The gnocchi are light and delicious. Ravioli with 3 cheeses is very good. They actually offered to make us anything, anyway we wanted it (as long as they had ingredients )! Overall....excellent! No wonder it is in business for over 37 years.

This is probably the best seafood restaurant in New York if you like seafood simply and perfectly cooked i.e. not encumbered or camouflaged by sauces. Great variety and you can choose the way you want it cooked. Service also is friendly and very attentive. Piccola Venezia is probably our favorite restaurant in NY. (Northern Italian food.) The food is unbelievably good and varied -- from pasta, to meats and fresh fish. They have a pumpkin ravioli which we just crave and has never been matched at any other restaurant. Service is wonderful and very professionally staffed. Family owned and run, and they remember you when you visit. They have private valet parking, so never a problem. Private room if needed. The consistent quality of food and service are unmatched. Maybe you'll run into Tony Bennett, as we did! We want it to stay a neighborhood secret!

Early dinner was best as the noise level was low to moderate. By dessert time (8pm) we couldn't wait to leave. I think our waiter felt the same way because his attentiveness turned to the larger groups. My husband's pastry was a bit stale and unfortunately got quite a bit more stale by the time we got the waiter's attention. However, the food was extraordinary! Especially loved the grilled octopus. The pastas were to die for and I recommend the tasting plate. My tastebuds are craving another bite and I think I'm salivating...

Food was great, as usual. There were 3 in our party, visiting from Denver and Russia. Two ordered fish dishes, the third was an osso bucco pasta dish. Each was prepared well and throughly enjoyed. The only issue (minor) was that the first 3 wines selected were not available. Each was a California wine (not Italian). I know this is an Italian place, but if it's on the list, I think it should be available.
