A word from Piccino
When we opened the doors of our tiny restaurant in December 2006, our goal was to make Piccino as welcoming as the home of a close friend, our food as simple and beautifully executed as possible. We"re honored that Piccino became a thriving hub of the community. And in May of 2011 we moved from our original space into a new home (dubbed The Yellow Building) on the corner of 22nd & Minnesota Streets, which we share with our friends MAC (Modern Appealing Clothing), and DIG wine shop.

Our menu still features the classic and seasonally driven thin-crust pizzas and polpette (Tuscan-style pork and beef meatballs) Piccino is known for; our salads and soups use the finest organic produce sourced directly from small local farms. Piccino's menu has expanded to include more small starter plates, house-made pastas, contorni (vegetable sides), and special entrees of meat, fish, or poultry. Seasonal desserts and expertly made coffee complete our daily offerings.

I hesitate to write a review strictly for selfish reasons.... don't want them to get so popular I can't get a table. This is a great neighborhood spot but I also go here with my out of town friends because it's conveniently located near 280 and 101 freeways. The staff is very knowledgeable on the wine list/food and they always have stellar recommendations. They take great care to provide an interesting menu of seasonal items and wines that pair perfectly. I've been coming here since they opened and will continue to do so. This place rocks! p.s. don't miss the their cafe around the corner with the plum muffins... to die for!

I found the portions really small. The prices were HIGH. For $26, I felt my piece of salmon should have been twice the size! My $9 salad had just a few lettuce leaves and some thinly sliced radish. I had my picky son with me, and there was only one thing on the menu that I felt he would eat. Where is the plain old chicken/rice/potatoes? There should be at least a couple kid friendly items. The pizzas were an average $16 each for a small super thin crust with barely any topping. My pork belly had accompanying veggies that were doused in straight up lemon juice. The restaurant was casual, but had a fancy stuck up air about it. Our server was very sweet and kind. Bottom line: The food is tasty, there should just be more of it for the price!

I love coming here, the ambiance, food, and service are all very good. Perhaps the portions seem a little on the small side (my fiance said it wasn't filling enough), but the dishes all taste great. Excellent pizzas (good sized portions for pizzas!) The absolute kicker is the excellent coffee. Will be returning soon!

Food was tasty - wine was great. But my husband and I had to yell at each other to be heard. Seating is too close to others along the wall. Portions are a bit small but I suppose that is to be expected. We left after a few dishes and went out to pizza.

We had a wonderful meal at Piccino. The food was inspired, fresh, delicious, flavorful and beautiful. We had the farro with roasted Cauliflower, the melon and cucumber caprese and the pizza called Fruta Estiva which had nectarine and prosciutto and watercress. The meal was quite memorable.

The food was fresh and delicious. We ordered the summer bean salad, squid over black rice, funghi pizza, a crumbly ice cream dessert and have zero complaints on any of them. We did feel a bit rushed by our waiter, but it wasn't to the point of being rude.

We loved our dinner here on a busy Sunday evening. The place was packed with locals of all ages including some families with small children. We shared some excellent starters and dessert and a bottle of Italian wine. Our tab was about $80, a great deal for this very lovely evening. We especially loved the goat cheese with home-made zucchini walnut bread with a drizzle of raspberry purée. The cucumber and melon caprese salad was also delicious. The servers and hosts were fun and professional.

We had a terrific experience at Piccino. The atmosphere was bustling, but not too loud. We got a lovely table in the corner by a window and were seated and promptly greeted by our server. The wine list was a nice size for the menu with unique choices. We ordered the bruschetta, the meatballs and a margherita pizza - perfect sized meal for two. Everything was outstanding, especially the meatballs. For dessert we shared a pink squirrel ice cream sandwich on dark chocolate shortbread cookies - also outstanding. We will definitely return to Piccino - exceptional food and excellent service!

The entree size was minuscule. I had salmon with roasted potatoes, which sounded hearty and filling, but was a very small portion of fish and a few very small quartered little potatoes. For $26. I expect that when I split an antipasti, have a primo and a secondi, that I will feel satisfied. I left hungry and went somewhere else for dessert. The waitress was apologetic, but it wasn't that the food was not well cooked, it was just not enough to make a satisfying experience. I won't go back.

We made plans to meet friends coming in from out of town at Piccino because of its convenient location, and unbeknownst to us, they had two dogs with them. By the time we arrived, they were already seated outside, on a pleasantly warm day, and the presence of dogs was not an issue. So, we are two for two at this restaurant. The accommodating service and good food will keep it a go-to place for us.

Piccino is just a gem of a place. It's now my favorite lunch/brunch spot in the city. The food is excellent but what really makes this place worth the cross-town drive is the staff -- so amiable, so attentive. Although I have dined at Piccino a number of times and enjoyed it this visit was to say the least disappointing . The Saturday lunch menu was at limited with a lack of balanced selections. There were two farm egg selections and a fatty milk braised pork for protein. The icing on the cake was that none of the selections were very good . I mean $15.00 for a selection of house baked goods(3) that's $ $ 5.00 a roll please!!
