    The Bourbon Room features a high ceiling, chandeliers, and a built-in milled wood china cabinet filled with fine bourbons, antiques and rare books from a New Orleans mid-19th Century home. The Vieux Carré is a combination of a New Orleans traditional drawing room with a splash of sophisticated chic. A focal fireplace with dark stained wood surrounding a dramatic built-in 10 foot tall wine tower anchors the space.

  • "I've been to Pican about here times. I've ordered the fried chicken twice and loved it. They have a honey truffle glaze which is amazing. I asked the server if it came on the side and he said no. Basically, the server comes around with the honey stick and drizzles it all over the chicken like it's a show. It's actually annoying and it should be served on the side. I had the greens which was very salty. My partner had the braised ham shank which he said was also very salty! I don't think I will return to this restaurant!"

  • "Went for a special event only to find they were hosting some sort of fund raising event for a local cancer group. Half way through the meal we were bombarded with DJ type loudspeaker urging everyone to participate. Ugh. Food and service was first class as always"

  • "We had dinner on a Sunday night and the place was busy, not overwhelmed. Our server was enthusiast and perky but a bit spaced out. She knew the food and wine well and could recommend items to us but she poured wine for someone not having wine, forgot to bring the cornbread we asked for twice and then gave us dessert menus before we'd had our entrees. Other servers placed dishes in front of the wrong diners. Overall we had a nice time and enjoyed the food a lot but were disappointed that the food price point exceeded the level of service. Also the male front of house manager wore a hat inside the restaurant. Call us traditionalists (4 people in their 50s-60s) but we thought that was rude no matter how fashionable it seems to be right now."

  • "My Husband and I have been wanting to visit this restaurant since we got married...it was on our "Marriage Bucket List"!! We drove all the way from Sacramento (1 hour, 55 minutes in heavy Labor Day weekend traffic) for this experience...and it was so worth it!!! Our waiters and new friends, Jacob (Jake) and Chris were the absolute best!! They are such an asset to the establishment....friendly and very familiar of the menu and how food is prepared. The ambience is superb and the food....well, let's just say, my Hubby and I have agreed to make the drive at least every other month, as a "treat" to ourselves. We've been telling everyone we know about you. In fact, next time we're bringing friends! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!"

Yes, $9. Waitress didn't advise, we would have opted for tap, had we known. Found out on bill. As you can imagine, we were annoyed."

We tried Pican based on reviews, had a fantastic meal - plus had fun with a Breast Cancer Fund Raiser that was being held at the restaurant that evening - a complete surprise, great fun and a wonderful cause! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! The Chicken Cracklin and Shrimp and Grits was a great start, followed by fried chicken, and the greens, corn and potato sides. A must do-again when we are back in Oakland!"

  • "The dates were delicious and my Porterhouse was excellent. She really liked her Pork Shank. But you were out of the rye whiskey you use in your Old Fashioned that bears your name. I would think you would have a case in reserve at all times for a drink that has your name in it. You were also out of the Fishin' special which may be understandable especially since our server described it so well my girl ordered it immediately without hesitation. This unfortunately led our server to fire the entreés too quickly and they arrived before we had even tasted the dates. Our server also tried to warn me about ordering the steak rare which was laughable considering how thin it was. We never got our Kale. Some missteps for sure but we'll be back."

  • "It's unfortunate this restaurant, trys to rely on good food & drink but forgets about the basics of serving their customers. We waited several minutes for valet, then walked into an empty host/hostess stand. Stood there for several minutes. Finally a gentleman came, he fiddled with the computer for minutes, finally gave up & seated us. Then we waited several minutes for our server, who I noticed had 7 or 8 tables (way too many to be efficient). She finally came to our table and said I will be with you shortly and did not even offer to take our drink order. Finally she came back took our drink order as I begged for an appetizer. Then they were out of the lobster at 7:30PM! Food is good. $185 later we left never to return! Party of 2"

  • "The food was excellent as usual and the waiters knowledge of the bar drinks was impressive. The only issue we had with our visit was the pacing of the service. Orders were taken promptly, and drinks/appetizers served fast (and nicely hot). But as soon as we finished our appetizers, the entrees were there immediately. Same could be said for our dessert service. The problem came at the end of the meal when we waited for our check and to get our card taken/scanned. While from the time for us to be seated and eat was 45 minutes total, it took us 20 minutes just to get the check and pay. Overall, we loved our visit as usual, but service was just a little off."

  • "As a southern lady, I was ready to be disappointed by the standard fried chicken and grits recipes and was so surprised by the overwhelming delicious pairings and presentations of savory southern dishes. It was an all around treat for our table of four, each ordering something different, we could share all around. The fried chicken is truly exceptional and the seasonal soft shell crabs were quickly consumed by us all. Great service, fun wine and beer pairings with fun suggestions from our wait staff."

  • "Saw the review of Pican on Check Please Bay Area. Took BART from San Francisco to try it. Overall our experience was excellent. We had an outstanding waitress named Jill who was very friendly and helpful. We tried a lot of different options on the menu including 4 appetizers and two entrees. Our favorites were the corn bread, fried green tomatoes, mac & cheese, pork shank and fried chicken. The funnel cake was good but wasn't a favorite. Also ordered the crawfish mac & cheese as a side. I actually liked the regular mac & cheese better. We thought that the hostess could have been friendlier and that one of the bartenders didn't seem super familiar with all of their bourbon options and how the flights worked. We did like the drinks as well."

  • "Having been raised in the South, I have searched in vain for three years for genuine soulful Southern food in the bay area. With Pican, I have come home. The restaurant itself has a Savannah / Nola cigar-room / patio feel, smartly darkened and accented with a classy Oakland touch. The menu is a curated tour of the gulf coast and the deep South — real, rich, hearty soul food executed with the greatest respect for its down-home components, carefully recalibrated for fine dining, but never forgetting its roots. After our incredible meal, I would entrust my taste-memories of any of my favorite home-style dishes to Pican's skillful hands, and couldn't endorse them more highly for an authentic high-quality sampling of the South."

  • "Arrived at Pican expecting valet parking: my spouse is handicapped. No attendant. I helped my souse into the restaurant & parked the car. We I returned, she had been led to a room where we were seared next to a table where a "reality" TV dating scene was being filmed!? Yes, 2 cameras, 2 "actors", sound man & director(oblivious that they might be disrupting patrons' dining experience). When I arrived(from parking the car) I asked for another table & we were seated in another, more pleasant section for ordinary folk. Our guest arrived & told us he dines at Pican on an occasional basis. Our server was excellent, and all 3 dinners tasty treats. The experience was saved by the server & chef! Next visit will be on a non-Hollywood night."
