This was a great spot for an anniversary dinner. The service was top notch, the food was excellent. Had a hard time deciding what to order. All the choices sounded great. Had the Gulf shrimp and grits and the chicken cracklin for starters. I had jambalaya and she had the fried chicken with crawfish mac and cheese. Little tweaks and updates to classic southern dishes made for a very enjoyable meal.

It's been a while since we've gone to a restaurant where the food was actually really good and it didn't feel like the menu was trying too hard. Pican hit the spot. Everything was perfect. We started with cocktails at the bar. They had a great list to start from with some interesting cocktails. When we were seated we had teh friend green tomato appetizer, the fried chicken dinner with classic mac and cheese and a BBQ rib special. They were all incredible! I would highly recommend the appetizer. We finished with a peach cobbler, which was also good, but maybe not as up to par as the other food we tried. The service was great from greeting to the bar to our waiter. I will definitely go back.

We had Jill as are server. Let me tell you something! It was our 55th wedding anniversary. When we mentioned it to Jill, she went over and above. They served us champagne, a dessert surprise of a candle on a plate that said ''Happy Anniversary'' and two chocolate decadent cakes...heavenly!! Jill made our day she was wonderful with her winning smile and bubbly personality. We will definately return and ask for Jill!!!

My husband and I tried Pican for the first time and were not disappointed. The shrimp and grits were quite tasty with a Worcestershire gravey. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection with a beautiful cripy crust and the Mac and cheese side was better than mom's. With a creamy bacon sauce and just the right amount of heat, the corn maque choux was a great addition. The wait staff was attentive and very personable. The decor was simple yet elegant and the food was moderately priced. We're looking forward to our return.

At lunchtime in uptown Oakland, this is our go to place for team celebrations - welcoming newcomers, saying goodbye to those moving on, "great job" lunches, you name it. The staff can easily handle groups of 8 - 12 people, recognize that we also need to get back to work so they are so efficient and everyone loves their ever changing menu. I love Pican.

The service was a little slow, but given how many large parties there were, they did a good job. The food was good but, my order was messed up and in general the serving size was small and a bit pricey. Glad I wasn't paying but would go again for a special occasion!

Although I have dined at Pican's for brunch on numerous occasions, this was the first time that I had the restaurant to myself. For the first 20 minutes or so, my guest and I had the undivided attention of the staff. The quietness made for a very intimate and romantic setting. The food was delicious and for the first time I tried the Sexy Bacon...AMAZING! Pican's will always be among my top choices for fine dining in Oakland.

We have been to Pican numerous times. The menu on this last visit was out-dated. There were 3 entrees that were not available as well as other special items for the month of August. It is not very impressive to dine on Sept. 4th when the menu still has August only items.

The food, location, and ambiance make this restaurant a real find. I've eaten there twice in the last year, and would go there again....maybe. While the host was very friendly and energetic, our wait staff was non-responsive to our arrival and throughout the meal. Regularly, we noticed our waiter chatting/laughing with one of the bartenders (one of the managers we were told) even after I complained to that bartender that we had waited way too long for service at our table. Perhaps the success has gone to their heads. Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be true for the wonderful people in the kitchen that continue to knock out great food.

Food was very good. The service was slow but professional. But what was so surprising was how out of date the menu was. They handed us the menu and disappeared for 10 minutes. When the server finally came over he told us that all 4 menu items we had picked were not available!! In fact the entire section labeled peach specials was no longer valid. Why was this advertised on their sidewalk billboard. When my wife asked them why the server just shrugged. We ended up with the fried chicken which was very good but all in all a disappointing night. Not sure when or if we're going back there. So many other good restaurants to try. If they had just told us that 1/4 of the menu was unavailable when they seated us for a 6:30 dinner.

Last year we'd heard about a great restaurant for fried chicken. Pican proved to be that and more. The impeccable service, ambience, and especially the food were worth a trip to Oakland. The chicken is fantastic, crispy on the outside succulent inside. Perfectly seasoned and served piping hot. The catfish was similarly tasty as can be. I'm not a big fan of Mac 'n' Cheese but Pican's was good enough to make an exception. The perfect finish was the Bourbon Peach Cobbler with cream cheese vanilla ice cream. Out of this world! The meal is a bit pricey but well worth the expense.

Vibrant scene. Aesthetically pleasing environment, music in the background and very good food! I had the best cheesy grits ever!! A bit off on catfish ... It tasted old ... not fresh. Their version of beignets are one of the best "northern" versions I have had. Not NOLA level but good! Cocktails are balanced. Pitcher of Mimosas at $25 are not worth it for quality of ingredients used. Our peach mimosas were bland. Nice uptown location. The hostess on brunch duty on Sunday, 8/24 was very aloof and robot-like.

Part of dining out is to enjoy a tasty meal with friends or family with service. PICAN at brunch was a disappointment, not due to the kitchen but due to serving staff. There should always be someone on the floor checking in on guests. One should not have to wait an unreasonable amount of time to be waited on especially if the restaurant is not full ..with their order, for water, for the sides that were part of the meal, for syrup that should accompany the waffles or any other condiments. The food was delicious, great fluffy cheesy biscuits, chicken nicely seasoned, catfish well cooked, but the service was not a great match.

Amazingly well done food! Menu seemed a little different than listed on open table. A little limited. I had a great time out server was great and really knew the menu. Amazing cocktails and bourbon flight! My only dis-like was dessert. Food was amazing dessert was meh, reinvented pies had no connection to the originals. I am all for redoing classics making them look out if the box, etc. But there has to be a connection to the original in some way be it appearance or flavor profile. Desserts didn't do that at all. Fried green tomatoes still taste like fried green tomatoes only better. Banana cream pie that doesn't taste of banana but tastes like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich meh!

This is my 2 ms time here so more of a combined review. First off the cocktails are mostly bourbon based which I love but a great mix and a great start to a great meal. Fried green tomatoes were perfect and my pork shank literally fell off the bone. My only complaint this time was the service was pretty average. We waited in the bar to get a cocktail for 10 minutes and was never able to get an order in so we sat down at the table. It took way too long to bring water and get ap and drink orders. Normally all this would make me mad and never go back because there are too many good restaurants to give them a 2nd try, but the 1st time I was there the service was perfect. Both times the food has been ridiculously good.

So far this is the best Fried Chicken I've had in the bay area. They also gave it a nice touch with the truffle honey. The Lobster Thermador was well done, I expected it to be very rich and it was not. If only they can improve on their wine list and throw in some Vouvray. That was what I brought and it was perfect with this meal.

We were a party of seven...all gave rave reviews for the brunch. According to my son, the catfish was tasty and cooked just right. He also enjoyed (and shared) the bourbon sampler. My oldest grandson woofed down everything and the burger he ordered lasted, oh, maybe a minute. My wife continually commented between bites how good her fried chicken eggs Benedict was. And the rest of us had fried chicken thighs one way or the other. Absolutely deeee lish; moist, tasty, and not overwhelmed by the batter like some other restaurants (who shall remain nameless but who's initials are KFC). While the entrees and appetizers (biegnets) were five star excellent, the so-called banana cream pie was overwhelmed by a sugar taste and it was dry.

The Bay Area is filled with so many somewhat good restaurants, but most are forgettable. Pican was such a wonderful experience. The staff was very warm and friendly and made the great suggestion that the 3 of us order family style to taste various dishes. Cocktails, appetizers, main dishes, and dessert were all memorable. There wasn't one item that was "average'', every dish was outstanding. And the best thing was how affordable the entire meal was including drinks. I can't wait to go back and experience another great dinner.
