    The Bourbon Room features a high ceiling, chandeliers, and a built-in milled wood china cabinet filled with fine bourbons, antiques and rare books from a New Orleans mid-19th Century home. The Vieux Carré is a combination of a New Orleans traditional drawing room with a splash of sophisticated chic. A focal fireplace with dark stained wood surrounding a dramatic built-in 10 foot tall wine tower anchors the space.

  • "The food here is absolutely incredible, it's definitely a place to try something new. For instance: I hate grits and anything that comes with it, but their shrimp and grits are sooooo amazing. I also cannot stand greens as well, but their beef braised greens are incredible. The lavender lemon drop drink is super yummy and they infuse the lavender on site. Truly amazing place, perfect for date night, girls night, or just a foodie night. The rib appetizer is an absolute must. Do not leave here without trying it. I usually order it for my meal (it used to be an entree, but they moved it to appetizer for some reason)."

  • "This establishment has been on my list of places to try. My party and I drove from San Mateo on a Friday evening. Although there was valet service, I parked directly across the street from the restaurant and paid a flat fee of $5. Great start. Upon entering, we noticed a very diverse clientele, wonderful ambiance and great vibe. We had the pleasure of being served by Jill. A wonderful lady with a great personality and spirit! We ordered the crab dip, fried chicken, pork shank, mac "n cheese and greens. Desert was banana cream pie. Every bite was wonderful and had us immediately discussing a return visit. Pican will now be on my regular restaurant rotation."

  • "Delicious, decadently different and delightful dining and drinking experience in downtown Oakland. Adventurous flavorings but all just amazing + a drink list of fresh, inspired cocktails and libations make this a super fun place to come hang with a group or just sit at the bar and catch up with a friend or three. Too full from the apps and mains (fried green tomatoes, sandwich-style with a pork filling, artichoke shrimp and blue crab dip with toasted country breads that was a mouth party to pan-seared/dry rubbed mahi mahi and jambalaya risotto that were just amazing) to even think about dessert, but they looked amazing too! Highly recommend Picán for a memorable night out that will leave you counting the days until you can come back."

  • "I was introduced to this gem of a place a month ago by a good friend. I never feel as though I can rate a place based on the first two visits, but I've been there four times now and it has consistently made good on a high quality of service and fantastic food. My favorite dishes are the Monday special catfish and the fried chicken, drizzled with truffle-honey - How awesome is that!!!! The very best part is the friendly and very intimate service you get from the staff. Typically, I'm not a touchy-feely person and like my space, but when their servers put their hand on my shoulder to take my order, I feel relaxed and at home."

  • "We loved Chris, our server. He was so patient and kind when 6 people from my party were stuck in traffic coming from San Francisco. Chris did not make it a big deal that our party was late. My husband and I got to enjoy some quality time alone at our table with some delicious cocktails while we waited for our family. Chris could not have been more gracious. When everyone arrived it was nothing but awesome food and awesome customer service after that... we had a wonderful evening!"

  • "We came for the lively Beast Crawl reading on Saturday night in the bar and stayed for a dinner reservation in the Bistro section. I think at first the waiters didn't realize we meant to stay to eat, but once we asked for a menu the service was superb. We had brought along relatives from the Midwest, and when the food came their eyes just rolled up in their heads, it was so good. Thanks, Picán, for helping us show them how we do it in Oakland!"

We were treated very well from start to finish -- just what you'd hope for on a night out. My one disappointment was with the coffee, which I generally order after dinner (which was a bit weak for my taste)."

  • "My husband and I make an annual trip for our anniversary and were not disappointed. The pork loin fell of the bone and the fried chicken was amazing. They remembered my note that I was gluten intolerant and I'm glad to say that they have gluten free items noted on the menu. The dessert even had a note written in chocolate that said "Happy Anniversary." I do have to say that the food was divine, the wait wasn't too long, the drinks were amazing and I wasn't disappointed. All of the staff, including the wait staff, were kind, courteous, and seemed to really like working there."

  • "I've been to Pican about here times. I've ordered the fried chicken twice and loved it. They have a honey truffle glaze which is amazing. I asked the server if it came on the side and he said no. Basically, the server comes around with the honey stick and drizzles it all over the chicken like it's a show. It's actually annoying and it should be served on the side. I had the greens which was very salty. My partner had the braised ham shank which he said was also very salty! I don't think I will return to this restaurant!"

  • "We had dinner on a Sunday night and the place was busy, not overwhelmed. Our server was enthusiast and perky but a bit spaced out. She knew the food and wine well and could recommend items to us but she poured wine for someone not having wine, forgot to bring the cornbread we asked for twice and then gave us dessert menus before we'd had our entrees. Other servers placed dishes in front of the wrong diners. Overall we had a nice time and enjoyed the food a lot but were disappointed that the food price point exceeded the level of service. Also the male front of house manager wore a hat inside the restaurant. Call us traditionalists (4 people in their 50s-60s) but we thought that was rude no matter how fashionable it seems to be right now."

  • "My Husband and I have been wanting to visit this restaurant since we got married...it was on our "Marriage Bucket List"!! We drove all the way from Sacramento (1 hour, 55 minutes in heavy Labor Day weekend traffic) for this experience...and it was so worth it!!! Our waiters and new friends, Jacob (Jake) and Chris were the absolute best!! They are such an asset to the establishment....friendly and very familiar of the menu and how food is prepared. The ambience is superb and the food....well, let's just say, my Hubby and I have agreed to make the drive at least every other month, as a "treat" to ourselves. We've been telling everyone we know about you. In fact, next time we're bringing friends! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!"

  • "I went here on some recommendations from others. It was a wonder evening. The server was great and very attentive to our table and needs. The food was excellent, especially the garbanzo bean funnel cake appetizer. It was a bit noisy but not overwhelming. The place was about 80% full on a Thursday night and the bar was packed. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice night out with good food."

Yes, $9. Waitress didn't advise, we would have opted for tap, had we known. Found out on bill. As you can imagine, we were annoyed."

We tried Pican based on reviews, had a fantastic meal - plus had fun with a Breast Cancer Fund Raiser that was being held at the restaurant that evening - a complete surprise, great fun and a wonderful cause! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! The Chicken Cracklin and Shrimp and Grits was a great start, followed by fried chicken, and the greens, corn and potato sides. A must do-again when we are back in Oakland!"

  • "It's unfortunate this restaurant, trys to rely on good food & drink but forgets about the basics of serving their customers. We waited several minutes for valet, then walked into an empty host/hostess stand. Stood there for several minutes. Finally a gentleman came, he fiddled with the computer for minutes, finally gave up & seated us. Then we waited several minutes for our server, who I noticed had 7 or 8 tables (way too many to be efficient). She finally came to our table and said I will be with you shortly and did not even offer to take our drink order. Finally she came back took our drink order as I begged for an appetizer. Then they were out of the lobster at 7:30PM! Food is good. $185 later we left never to return! Party of 2"

  • "The dates were delicious and my Porterhouse was excellent. She really liked her Pork Shank. But you were out of the rye whiskey you use in your Old Fashioned that bears your name. I would think you would have a case in reserve at all times for a drink that has your name in it. You were also out of the Fishin' special which may be understandable especially since our server described it so well my girl ordered it immediately without hesitation. This unfortunately led our server to fire the entreés too quickly and they arrived before we had even tasted the dates. Our server also tried to warn me about ordering the steak rare which was laughable considering how thin it was. We never got our Kale. Some missteps for sure but we'll be back."

  • "The food was excellent as usual and the waiters knowledge of the bar drinks was impressive. The only issue we had with our visit was the pacing of the service. Orders were taken promptly, and drinks/appetizers served fast (and nicely hot). But as soon as we finished our appetizers, the entrees were there immediately. Same could be said for our dessert service. The problem came at the end of the meal when we waited for our check and to get our card taken/scanned. While from the time for us to be seated and eat was 45 minutes total, it took us 20 minutes just to get the check and pay. Overall, we loved our visit as usual, but service was just a little off."
