A word from Piazza D'Angelo
Piazza D'Angelo is a family run business with a long history. In 1980, two brothers from southern Italy moved to Marin with dreams of opening an authentic Italian restaurant. The dream came true a year later when co-owners Domenico and Paolo Petrone opened the now upscale trattoria Piazza D’Angelo. Over the years, Piazza D'Angelo, has become the most popular restaurant in downtown Mill Valley. They are known for wonderful Italian cuisine in a warm and friendly setting.Continued

  • "D'Angelo's does it again! The salad -- imported burrata cheese, Zuckerman’s asparagus, aged balsamic vinegar, shaved Tuna Heart, roasted Pine nuts, Sicilian Fior di Sale black Truffle Perlage was fabulous. I can still taste the house-made Fettuccine, with seasonal mushrooms, house made Niman Ranch bacon, and Grana Padano cheese. A Chianti Classico topped it off. We go to D'Angelo's expected a great meal, and they did it again!"

  • "Unfortunately, on our latest visit to Piazza D'Angelo we were very disappointed with our dishes. I had one of the specials, a veal stuffed pasta which featured asparagus in the sauce, both as a puree, and small pieces. The pasta while fresh was overcooked, and the dish overall was very bland. Very little flavor other than the taste of asparagus. I added salt, pepper and Parmesan cheese, but it was still bland. the veal in the pasta had no flavor at all. My wife had a Caesar salad, which was fine, (hard to mess that up), and a Minestrone style soup. Again it was very flavorless. All in all, a very disappointing dining experience. Especially for the price."

  • "I love this place. It's not the finest, but food is good. Service is very good and friendly. Great cocktails If you are nearby .... Go!"

  • "Our waiter never told us about the specials of the day and when we ordered appetizer, soup and on of their artisanal pizzas, he asked, "Do you want that all at once?". Our drinks showed up after the appetizer had arrived and before we'd had more than two or three bites of our first dish, the soup appeared. Forty-five minutes later our pizza showed up, cold and soggy. When informed of this, our waiter thought it appropriate to take it to have it re-heated :-( Eventually a fresh, and finally hot pizza was brought to the table. He never came back to check on us. We finally had to go back to the hostess to get our check. . . . completely unacceptable."

  • "Well, sorry to say our experience was just OK. Made reservations and requested a booth, arrived and waited 20+ minutes and told our booth was getting prepped. The hostess then sat us a a table....we could have sat at a table 25 minutes ago! But waiting around for the booth was a waste....we finally asked to get moved when we noticed a party leaving and were told "these people were waiting." At that point the birthday celebration had an irritation factor. Food was OK. Must have been our state of mind :("

  • "This restaurant is consistantly good. I wouldn't hesitate to take a party here."

  • "We have been going here for years and it has been consistently up to the standard you would hope for. I onlyvgave it 4 Stars for ambience due to noise levels and did not check "Romantic" because nowadays, kids are considered the norm in any and all restaurants, which kind of negates that when they are not behaving. Son if you want a romantic night, stay home and have a candle light dinner and put the kiddies to bed early. A part from that this restaurant is a Mill Valley gem."

  • "We loved this restaurant many years ago, but all the good waiters left and the servers now are rushed, only come to the table when flagged down, are not knowledgable about the wine list, are not personable, often hard to understand. This last visit, part of our order never arrived. The wait for a table- even with a reservation- is very long. This review is based on a very recent visit but reinforces how we felt after several visits over the past few years. The food is decent to very good, but the service is so deplorable it's not worth going to this restaurant. Two positive changes: small gluten-free menu and a children's menu."

  • "They hit a home run, bases loaded!!! Great service. Our waiter was a real professional. The Chef is top of the line. The food we ordered was prepared perfectly. We both had a special shrimp dish for our main which was rosemary crusted jumbo shrimp, served halved/open meat exposed with a dollop of caviar on the side. Delicious. The wine offerings are well priced and lots to choose from. HIghly recommend."

  • "On a grey, wintery day the ambience seemed a bit too cool; wait person was cool, not enthusiastic, was hard to understand (strong accent) and seemed grumpy when my guest declined a glass of wine. Wine list adequate for by-the-glass but always look for more local wines; not much from Sonoma Co. Loved the unusual appetizer of grilled carrots in a sauce; lovely presentation; carrots quite al dente but delicious. Some food seemed a bit bland; would like more garlic and some anchovies in the Caesar salad, e.g."

  • "Been here many times. We love everything about this restaurant except preparation of fish. The pasta, pizza, veal all great. The salmon dry and the sword fish way too dry. Drinks are great;. Until they get it right on the fish,we will stick to pasta and pizza"

  • "Pizza was very good but could use a few more variations or maybe a daily special or two. The spicy pizzas were VERY spicy even for those in our party that like it hot. Maybe the waiter could ask for the spice level tolerance. Gluten free options were very tasty. Gluten free menu was the reason we chose this restaurant."

  • "It was a perfect evening with good friends. We love consistency in a restaurant and Piazzo D'Angelo always delivers. The salads are unique and varied in their ingredients with light dressings and well presented. Most of us had the fresh, wild salmon, cooked to perfection and accompanied by local vegetables. We noticed many gluten free selections for those who are in need. All and all, it's a 5 star!"

  • "All was good except that one salmon dish came out very undercooked. They took care of the problem quickly but we were surprised it happened. Service was good and accommodating."

  • "The special menu for Valentine's Day was mostly special for being overpriced. My risotto had truffles without flavor and crunchy rice. My linguine was similarly bland, despite alluring ingredients. I just don't think this chef knows how to do tasty (though my wife had better luck). But why should a $60 prix fixe be so hit or miss?"

  • "Lively, fun -- good food, good service. Pasta dishes are very good and desserts are, as well. Best feature is the venue itself, which is lively without being too loud. The flow of the four dining areas ensures that it never feels like close quarters even when it is filled to capacity."

  • "There were 7 of us. The menu was terrible! It was changed for the holiday. Very odd choices and no one at our table liked their entree. Service was terrible! We waited 20 minutes before anyone waited on us. They brought out meals one at a time and before we were finished with our appetizers. Forgot my husband's dinner and had to be reminded. They were obviously rushing us. They were very rude! We had planned to stay all night especially since the band did not start until after 9 pm. They wanted to turn the table. My family has been going to this restaurant for 30 years! I realize it was NYE but they should have made a special effort to have a MUCH better menu, MUCH better service and a MUCH better attitude. Disappointing to say the least!"

  • "We are regulars at D'Angelo's. The food is always delicious, the menu changes frequently, the owners are actively taking care of guests and serivce is usually terrific. Tonight we had a server who was mediocre at best. He threw down our salads without asking if we wanted pepper, wasn't around when I wanted another glass of wine and stood around watching folks in the bar until we flagged him down for our check. The restaurant could have sold another glass of wine and dessert if he'd bothered to be more attentive. Too bad."

  • "Had a business lunch here and the food was top notch. Vegetable risotto and beet spaetzle were both truly outstanding, as was the pistachio cake and sorbetto. You can tell that this kitchen has a ton of integrity -- they care about fresh ingredients, flavor and beauty of presentation And the service couldn't have been more attentive, without being imposing. I've been a customer for 10 years and unlike so many restaurants that lose their specialness over time, Piazza D'Angelo is quite the opposite. They are at the top of their game."

  • "excellent menu & food; service great and getting there @ 6:00 P.M. meant we had a quiet table/space and 4 of us able to have conversation. So lovely. We left @ 7:30 and it was quite full and noisy by then; lively, but I am not sure we could have had much conversation and be able to be heard"

  • "I am so glad that we chose to celebrate our anniversary at Piazza D'Angelo! From the moment our lovely Italian server said, "Buona sera", to the end - our dinner was delicious and fun. All the food is great, but I highly recommend the Zuppa Di Pesce - a bowl overflowing with the freshest fish and divine broth. The desserts are also fantastic - really the best of any restaurant around!"

  • "Piazza d'Angelo is right on the square in Mill Valley, so an excellent location. They are open for lunch and dinner every day which is convenient. The ambience is great. The food is good. It can be noisy so it is good to sit in the back of the restaurant if you need to talk. The owners are real community people. We always enjoy ourselves there. Would recommend to anyone."

  • "D'Angelo's consistently puts out very good food. The Tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and pancetta is wonderful (hearty portions). The restaurant has a fun, vibrant atmosphere and the bar is a happening place. For good Italian food at reasonable prices, D'Angelo's is the place to go in Mill Valley."

  • "Despite that the restaurant was very busy (we went on New Year's eve), the service was very good - prompt and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing - some of the pasta dishes we ordered were at best unremarkable, as was the Caesar salad. The peppers and cheese antipasto was very tasty and the taglietelle con ragu was ok, but the other dishes ordered were disappointing."

  • "This is one of my favorite family run restaurants! They had the place decorated with ballons and signs which was very festive for NYE. The food was great and they accommodated my party of 6 on a very busy night. I had made a open table resi but made the error Of booking it for Monday instead of Tuesday. When we arrived at 6:15 they graciously gave us a table for 6. I love this place and the owners and staff!!!! 5stars for sure!!!"

  • "Everything was lovely. The food quite good (although they have changed their fish soup, and it isn't quite as refined as it used to be). The parents happy with their gluten free bread and pasta. We had a lovely Calabrian wine, which you do not usually find on menus. The only two issues were the draft from under the table (we were in the little add on room; I'm guessing that the staff hasn't actually sat here on a cold night!), and the corner of the plate which chipped off into the salad. One of our party did bite into it, but fortunately didn't break his tooth! it was a bit like the scene from Victor Victoria, where the staff (almost) seemed to think we chipped it off ourselves, and then bit into it just to get a price reduction!"

  • "We love this little "neighborhood gem" and go several times a year. Christmas Eve, however, they seemed overwhelmed. The menu was clearly designed for foods that could have the maximum amount prepared ahead. I doubt I'll go for another busy time, but we definitely will go back for their usually marvelous food and ambiance."

  • "We dine at D"Angelo every Christmas Eve and they never disappoint. This family run restaurant serves fabulous food (w/ extra special menu items on holidays with a warm Italian flair. The brothers are always there to welcome you and make sure you have a great time. This year we had the most amazing risotto appetizer and considering we always start w/ their risotto that's saying something. We had a great Angus steak shoulder, melt in your mouth good, w/ butternut puree and creative Ca Bass creation. We were seated at a lovely table near the fireplace w/ view of the packed restaurant full of revelers in either direction. Can't recommend D'Angelo enough for holidays or any time! It's a Mill valley institution not to be missed."

  • "Piazza D'Angelo is one of my favorite restaurants and I was lucky to get a reservation on Christmas Eve. I was not aware, however, that there was a special menu for the holiday - and granted, what I ordered was good (Bronzini), it is not what I came in for, and the holiday menu was limited and, well, quite strange. In fact, not a one of us at the table (6) really liked what they had, and we have been coming to this restaurant for over 12 years - but never again on a special menu day. The restaurant was slammed and our waiter - not sure where he went - was not able to get us a second glass of wine, a spoon for the pasta, or a refill on our coffees. But the ambiance was great, the hostess fun and joyful, and I still love the place."

  • "The food at Piazza D'Angelo is outstanding. Be sure to save room for dessert! We had the Jessica - many mouthwatering layers of heaven!"

  • "My wife and I were shocked at how the quality of food at this restaurant has decreased in the past year. The pizza that was served to us was inedible, our server was no where to be found (probably because he had too many tables), and we paid $18 for a pasta special that was bland, tasteless, and less than al dente. I think that this restaurant has been living on its past laurels for too long. The owner needs to re-vamp the menu, and spend more time with attention to detail. Either that, or the restaurant will lose customers. I know that my wife and I will never go back to this restaurant for food. We may stop by for a drink at the bar."

  • "I've been to Piazza many times before, mostly for lunch because it's convenient for Mill Valley folks and hits that sweet spot in price range where you can treat without breaking the bank. I made a reservation for four but they were able to seat my party of five. We requested to sit in the far back of the restaurant so we could have some privacy. They accommodated the request, but that may have been a misstep. It took about 5 minutes for us to get noticed for waters, and another 10 to order drinks, and then another 7 or so to order food. 4 of us weren't in a hurry, but 1 of us had to leave within an hour. The food came out quickly after we placed our order, so all was well in the end, but faster service would have made this a 5-star review."
