A word from Piazza D'Angelo
Piazza D'Angelo is a family run business with a long history. In 1980, two brothers from southern Italy moved to Marin with dreams of opening an authentic Italian restaurant. The dream came true a year later when co-owners Domenico and Paolo Petrone opened the now upscale trattoria Piazza D’Angelo. Over the years, Piazza D'Angelo, has become the most popular restaurant in downtown Mill Valley. They are known for wonderful Italian cuisine in a warm and friendly setting.Continued

  • "Food was bland to our tastes. Service was slow and we felt neglected as we were eating lightly and did not order appetizers and full dinner and no wine, so the waiter was inattentive. Although it is a popular restaurant among locals, it is not a favorite for us. We had reservations a few months ago for a weekend night and it was so noisy, we left, as did some other diners. This dinner was on a week night and we sat on the patio, it was quite pleasant with the overhead heaters."

  • "Good food and fun place to go with our family. The last time we went the wait help was more observant and the food was good! We will go back and love the atmosphere of the restaurant. Great place to also take out of town guests!"

  • "The service was great! The food was great! I liked my meal so much I asked the waitress if she could get me the recipe from the chef. We were amazed when she came out of the kitchen with a hand written recipe from the chef. Many thanks to the chef for doing this for us!!"

  • "Piazza D'Angelo is good for families with children (especially early evening) , friend and/or business groups and even a few singles(bar dining)! An attractive large restaurant broken up into a variety of spaces: the host can help you find the best place for your needs. A seasonal distinctly modern italian menu, fresh quality ingredients, nice presentation and some food adaptable for kids. Limited but good gluten free/vegetarian options. Monday night 1/2 price on bottles of their already well priced, excellent wine list; nice salads, inventive risottos and a changing menu. Service usually smooth, adaptable to your timing."

  • "We had a perfect spot in the front open window. Good service, good food, decent prices. It was a little noisy but that seems to be standard these days."

  • "Bad the tortellini del a casa as usual it's divine but could be a larger portion. Hubby had risotto super creamy."

  • "We have been here many times, as a pre-theater dinner spot. In the past we have ordered Italian-centric dishes. This time, we ordered a $30 beef dish to split between us. Presentation was sparse and frankly not very tasty. For the price, the cut of beef was not very tender, and the steak knives were not sufficiently sharp for easy cutting. Next time, we'll order the known-to-be-delicious Margherita pizza or lasagna or another specialty. It was noisy primarily because the World Cup match was being shown on television. We have been there when it was much less raucous."

  • "I have eaten here many times....it is our go to restaurant when we are in Mill Valley. This time the food lived up to expectations but the service did not. We asked to go into the side room away from the World Cup. This was done pleasantly but then our waiter seemed to forget about us. Other than that, we had a pleasant meal and will give it another chance the next time we are in the area."

  • "We had a delicious dinner with very good service before heading to the Throckmorton Theater for a performance. We sat in the patio which was nice and quieter than the inside restaurant. We loved the bread and olive oil garlic dip as a starter then had salads, pasta dishes and tiramisu for dessert. It was all delicious. The only thing I would change is to put less dressing on the salad since the bottom part was a bit soggy. I had the pasta dish with lamb and my date had the pasta with mushrooms. Both excellent as was the tiramisu! And our waiter was very attentive as well."

  • "We had our Mother's Day dinner (mid-afternoon) at Piazza D'Angelo and really enjoyed the food and service. The menu choices were many and varied so no one went wanting for food. The service was outstanding. The meals were outstanding, too. Great place to eat and will plan to return when in the area."

  • "Piazza D'Angelo has been there forever. The experience of dining here can vary based on both the food and the service. Our server this time lacked any personality at all, not bothering to make any real human contact. When the meal comes out to between $60 - $80 per person that is a glaring hole. "

  • "This was our favorite restaurant but now we doubt we will go back. The last few meals there were just OK. Food wasn't great, service was very poor and wait staff didn't care if we were there or not. Very disappointed this place has gone down hill. "

  • "I have been coming to D'Angelo's for many years. This time, had nice seat in open back area. Only drawback was many kids and some noise. Had a pasta dish with mushrooms, caesar salad and my companion has the salmon. Food was very good -- better than I remembered. Not having been in a while, I was surprised at how high the prices have become -- now on the high side of what I think of as reasonable for similar places. The waiter was competent but rather brusque and unengaged. We felt rushed even though he kept saying there was no hurry."

  • "This is our "go to" place. Of course it is relevant that it's about a 3 minute walk from our house. But really, we would not bother if we did not love it! Andrea, the new (I think it's already been a year or more) chef, what a bright young, energetic and creative soul. His additions and subtractions on the menu have been inspired. He has taken some of the tried and true and revamped them. He has put new and interesting and delicious, complex and compelling dishes on the menu. He has made it his own, and D'Angelo's is all the better for it. It's hustle and bustle, a perfect joie de vivre for downtown Mill Valley. "

  • "OK, so its Mother's Day, and I know that it was busy, but we must have received the worst service we've received in a restaurant in some time. We were seated promptly (a good thing), but things went downhill from there. The waiver was inattentive, pretty much most of the time. We would sit waiting for our order to be taken, for quite a long time, while the waiver walked around the restaurant, pretty much ignoring us. He never asked how our food was, whether we were satisfied, or anything to indicate he cared if we were having a good experience (we were not). On top of that, the food was not particularly good. The steak was tough and underdone, the sorbet, pretty tastless. We will not be returning"

  • "We've been going here for 28 years….love it. I need 50 characters for this review to be able to be submitted. Just saying that we love it, is not good enough. Okay, fine. "

  • "I loved this restaurant. The salmon was devine. It was very loud in the main dining, so I would suggest you request a table in the garden room. It was very nice."

  • "the place was packed, as it usually is. Food was nice but the service was very slow. it took forever for the waiter to come to our table and take our drink orders. then someone else came and took the drink orders again. we ordered the Fritto Misto as an appetizer and it was very good. then it took a long time until our pasta dinner arrived. we had tickets for the Mill Valley Theater but wanted to fit a dessert in before we left. we finally received the dessert menu and were not able to get the attention of our waiter for another 10 or so minutes. when he finally came over he had the check ready for us. okay not dessert this time then. I really like this restaurant and hope the service issue was just a one off."

  • "Had another great experience at D'Angelos. Food was a surprise as menu has changed... Really paired down from the old stand-by book to fewer choices that change weekly. Or waiter Alex was perfect, very knowledgeable and added a personal touch we truly enjoyed. The one caveat is to count on a very noisy room, not set up for romance, more for lively fun & good food."

  • "This restaurant has always been one of our favorites because Paulo, Domenico, Natale and Luigi are very warm, inviting people who know how to make their guests feel welcome and special. When Chef Andrea Giuiliani joined, the menu really became creative with delectable surprises (like the salmon pizza and the fresh fish dishes) joining old favorites like Tagliatelle Bolonaise. Piazza D'Angelo's is one of my go to restaurants whether for a birthday bash, a brunch with relatives or for a quick bite after my son's basketball games (it's one of the only restaurants in town open late)."

  • ". Initially we were seated at a booth for three. After asking for a table of which there were plenty available at this early hour we were moved to a nice table. From there we were forgotten. It took 40 minutes to get our appetizers and another 45 minutes waiting for our main courses. The ceasar salad was warm and soggy. Upon asking for some anchovies I was charged extra. The steak was tough, undercooked and they left off the sauce altogether. The special ravioli was dry and it appeared to have been thrown onto the plate. We had no time for dessert which did not matter because we were never even offered dessert. It seemed that there were on two servers working a busy dining room plus a large private party on the patio. "

  • "D'Angelo's does it again! The salad -- imported burrata cheese, Zuckerman’s asparagus, aged balsamic vinegar, shaved Tuna Heart, roasted Pine nuts, Sicilian Fior di Sale black Truffle Perlage was fabulous. I can still taste the house-made Fettuccine, with seasonal mushrooms, house made Niman Ranch bacon, and Grana Padano cheese. A Chianti Classico topped it off. We go to D'Angelo's expected a great meal, and they did it again!"

  • "Unfortunately, on our latest visit to Piazza D'Angelo we were very disappointed with our dishes. I had one of the specials, a veal stuffed pasta which featured asparagus in the sauce, both as a puree, and small pieces. The pasta while fresh was overcooked, and the dish overall was very bland. Very little flavor other than the taste of asparagus. I added salt, pepper and Parmesan cheese, but it was still bland. the veal in the pasta had no flavor at all. My wife had a Caesar salad, which was fine, (hard to mess that up), and a Minestrone style soup. Again it was very flavorless. All in all, a very disappointing dining experience. Especially for the price."

  • "Our waiter never told us about the specials of the day and when we ordered appetizer, soup and on of their artisanal pizzas, he asked, "Do you want that all at once?". Our drinks showed up after the appetizer had arrived and before we'd had more than two or three bites of our first dish, the soup appeared. Forty-five minutes later our pizza showed up, cold and soggy. When informed of this, our waiter thought it appropriate to take it to have it re-heated :-( Eventually a fresh, and finally hot pizza was brought to the table. He never came back to check on us. We finally had to go back to the hostess to get our check. . . . completely unacceptable."

  • "Well, sorry to say our experience was just OK. Made reservations and requested a booth, arrived and waited 20+ minutes and told our booth was getting prepped. The hostess then sat us a a table....we could have sat at a table 25 minutes ago! But waiting around for the booth was a waste....we finally asked to get moved when we noticed a party leaving and were told "these people were waiting." At that point the birthday celebration had an irritation factor. Food was OK. Must have been our state of mind :("

  • "We have been going here for years and it has been consistently up to the standard you would hope for. I onlyvgave it 4 Stars for ambience due to noise levels and did not check "Romantic" because nowadays, kids are considered the norm in any and all restaurants, which kind of negates that when they are not behaving. Son if you want a romantic night, stay home and have a candle light dinner and put the kiddies to bed early. A part from that this restaurant is a Mill Valley gem."

  • "We loved this restaurant many years ago, but all the good waiters left and the servers now are rushed, only come to the table when flagged down, are not knowledgable about the wine list, are not personable, often hard to understand. This last visit, part of our order never arrived. The wait for a table- even with a reservation- is very long. This review is based on a very recent visit but reinforces how we felt after several visits over the past few years. The food is decent to very good, but the service is so deplorable it's not worth going to this restaurant. Two positive changes: small gluten-free menu and a children's menu."

  • "They hit a home run, bases loaded!!! Great service. Our waiter was a real professional. The Chef is top of the line. The food we ordered was prepared perfectly. We both had a special shrimp dish for our main which was rosemary crusted jumbo shrimp, served halved/open meat exposed with a dollop of caviar on the side. Delicious. The wine offerings are well priced and lots to choose from. HIghly recommend."

  • "On a grey, wintery day the ambience seemed a bit too cool; wait person was cool, not enthusiastic, was hard to understand (strong accent) and seemed grumpy when my guest declined a glass of wine. Wine list adequate for by-the-glass but always look for more local wines; not much from Sonoma Co. Loved the unusual appetizer of grilled carrots in a sauce; lovely presentation; carrots quite al dente but delicious. Some food seemed a bit bland; would like more garlic and some anchovies in the Caesar salad, e.g."
