Had been looking for a place that would serve creative, small plates for reasonable prices and Piattini fit the bill, especially for the neighborhood which can often be overpriced and overrated. My only complaints were small things that I think could be ironed out in time (food came before drinks, service was a little haphazard at times.) Nothing that took away from the fact that the food was very good, presented in creative ways, and we felt that the prices were extremely reasonable. A good neighborhood spot that I think will catch on over time. I suggest asking to sit in the back near the open kitchen -- the smells there were amazing!"

I was expecting the baccala to be fried and it was steamed. I would not order this again. The service was very good and the waiter very friendly. I will definitely go back again."

  • "Food was very good, owner very corrigible, restaurant has a cafeteria feel, no bread but could order focaccia if you like that. Waitress could use some training. She brought a clean and dirty wine glass to the table and didn't notice the red wine spots still in the bottom of the glass. Obviously not the restaurants' fault, but the stench of urine on the sidewalks 50 feet from the entrance should have been enough to turn any one around. They could definitely use a better location!"

  • "Had an excellent dinner here with 3 friends. Everything was very very good, and a couple of dishes were outstanding - the pumpkin ravioli and the mushroom risotto. The risotto was one of the best I've ever had. For the quality of the food, the prices were amazingly reasonable. The place seems not to have quite caught on yet, so it's pretty easy to snag reservations. Get there, before it is "discovered"."

  • "I used to come to this restaurant with friends who lived in the neighborhood. Since they moved, I haven't gone to Specchio in years, and I decided to try again when a friend of mine came to visit me. The cook might have changed, but pizza is definitely not what you would expect in an italian restaurant. Good starters and decent main courses, but not good as before. Too bad."

  • "I loved the lighting fixtures. It was pretty loud so in fairness perhaps the wait staff couldn't always hear us properly. The food was good but the wait staff was a bit disengaged when we tried to get their attention and maybe that's the their way of providing the guests with a sense of privacy in a crowded dining setting. The wait staff also consistently delivered the wrong order to the wrong person at our table. I liked their salads very much."

  • "The place was practically empty at 8pm on a Saturday night - not a good sign. I decided to dine anyways. I would say that I have made better meals myself, and i hate cooking. I compared the pizza to frozen pizza's I have made. Cheap and always seating. Wouldn't recommend other wise."

  • "We were early (the first seated), but the service was fantastic throughout, even when it got more crowded. Very good food, a bit salty for my taste, but most food is too salty for me. I liked that they used a lot of garlic. The calamari appetizer, pizza, walnut pesto and salmon all fresh tasting and well seasoned."

  • "We went on a Monday night @ 6 pm before Thanksgiving - guess most folks were out of town. We were the only group in the restaurant at least until 7p. We got excellent service, wonderful tasty appetizers (the small plate veggie ricotta was superb!), and ordered one of the best red wines in the place! The special was filet mignon w/ mushroom-sauce - yummy!! Cooked to perfection :) We were impressed by the desserts - sorbet w/ cookie & cannoli."

  • "My husband and I had a weekday dinner at Specchio and enjoyed the delicious food and welcoming, attentive service. We arrived for an early dinner and were the only ones in the dinning room for a while. Made us wonder, but as it got later the restaurant began to fill up with other groups enjoying the bar and the restaurant. We ordered rigatoni with a nice tomato based sauce and the radicchio risotto, and both entrees were delicious. We look forward to returning to try some of the other items on the menu."

  • "I love this restaurant and feel very comfortable here. The service is terrific and most of the food is terrific. But the Cornish Game Hen was awful. The meat was like basic chicken and it was slathered in a sauce that seemed 100 percent mustard. I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. Do customers really like this? The other three dishes were superb -- spaghetti with fruiti di mare, the best sirloin steak I have ever had anywhere by far, and pasta with cinghiale (wild boar), the pasta in that dish being among the best pasta I've had and the wild boar sauce perfect.."

  • "Good food here. You WILL overhear your fellow diners. The painted walls and metal railings remind me of of working on a freighter -- almost nautical. It looks like they are no longer screening those amusing Italian movies of 50 years ago on the rear wall. They also seem to be cutting a few corners, for example no bread or new silverware between courses. Friendly, courteous service. It's good value if you use a two for one coupon and do happy hour at the bar on your way in or out"

  • "This was my second visit to Specchio and both times, I've been impressed. The prix-fixe menu is delicious and plentiful and the cocktails were quite nice, too. We also liked the attention that the waiters gave to us. Very attentive but not obtrusive. The kitchen was lightening fast, too. The only thing that didn't wow me was the dessert but the salad, main, pasta and cocktails definitely made up for that. Keep it up, Specchio!"

  • "My husband and I brought our daughter and two children to this chic and modern restaurant. They offered a good selection of Italian wines and traditional Italian dishes with a modern twist. My husband had the Sangiovese and I had a white wine from Tuscany, both went well with our meal. The gnocchi, pork chop, grilled salmon and polenta were all outstanding. We especially loved the sauces that were unique in the gnocchi, pork chops and mussels. This restaurant showed it's true hospitality with it's kind attention to our table; albeit bringing along a 2 y.o. and a 4 y.o. They loved the mussels, finishing off the bowl. We had to put in another order so that the grown ups could have some."

  • "Came here through an online deal, but it was easily worth full price. Small plates (beets and polenta) were very tasty. Primi pastas were perfectly al dente; one with walnut pesto and the other pork bolognese, so fresh and delicious. Secondi was the pork chop, just right. Portions were a bit large for SF, but not too much. Cocktails were well made, especially the vodka/cucumber concoction. And the manager/owner suggested a wine that paired perfectly with the pork chop. Service was quick and attentive by the team of staff, though our actual waiter was a little too busy to attend to our questions and we had to ask others. The manager/owner visited us a couple times, and seemed to speak with every single guest in the restaurant."

  • "Original visit last year was fabulous! Have returned a couple of times and was very disappointing. Changed menu and ingredients did not feel or taste as fresh. Pastas did not have much taste. Pizza had a few mushrooms - requested sausage and you could barely see or taste it. Hope others had a more tasty meal than we did..."

The service was attentive and helpful in selecting dishes. .The wine list consists of mostly Italian wines and is affordable by the glass also. We definitely can recommend this restaurant and we will be back.."

  • "We had the grilled vegetables for appetizer and the squid ink risotto and salmon for dinner. The salmon was one of the best I have ever had, perfectly grilled and seasoned. The potatoes that came along with it could have been better, but it was a really nice experience. The waiter was very patient and not on your face and the overall ambience was very modern yet very Italian."
