Diner Reviews
  • "We wanted a really good relaxed place to celebrate a 50 year anniversary. My partner Nick chose Piatti...and I agreed. We live in S.F. but our four closest friends live in Mill Valley, so Piatti made great sense for us all. We had a wide variety of entrees....everything from a pasta with shrimp to a Cobb Salad for me. I heard nothing but very positive comments from my good friends. And that brownie sundae made a delicious dessert for a couple of us sweet lovers. Thanks for the experience."

  • "service the other day was not as good as usual. drinks good but somewhat small and pricy"

  • "The appetizer with edible tiny flowers-toast with avocado and burata-was the highlight this time. The gnocci was better this time with sausage and potato. They have a very good wine selection that goes very well with their menu.Service is always outstanding and fun as they are very busy on a weekend night. We locals are used to the Mt. Tamalpais water view-I'm sure first time visitors are overjoyed with the very European landscape.Always a fine outing."

  • "With traditional dishes jazzed up with innovative ideas the chef is doing great. Every visit provides something new and delectable while still having just the right level of comfort. Everyone in our group enjoyed a wide variety of dishes all excellently prepared and presented."

  • "The last 2 times we've gone to Piatti they have NAILED it in all facets. We love this place and will keep coming back!"

  • "This was our second visit to Piatti's and we weren't disappointed! The food is outstanding and the service outstanding too. Lovely view over Richardson Bay. This time we went on a Saturday early evening and it did become a little on the noisy side, but nothing too bad. We could certainly have a nice conversation at our table."

  • "This restaurant is a vibrant, happening place to eat. The food is good and the service exemplary. Request a table by the window and enjoy the view!"

  • "Our experiences at Piatti span many years. We only had salads, bread and wine on our latest visit -- which is just what we wanted. The service was very good. Our biggest criticism is that the restaurant is too noisy. I marked "energetic" on the scale above because none of the other choices seemed to fit for me. When you cannot carry on a conversation across the table with your dinner partner because it is too noisy, we tend to avoid the restaurant in the future. We like the location right along Highway 101 and on the tidelands. Easy to get to when driving south to Palo Alto from San Rafael. We lived in Mill Valley for 20 years and so know the territory. We now live in Nevada City, CA."

  • "Another great meal was had and enjoyed thoroughly! We sat next to the window with a very nice view of the water. Our waiter was perfect... attentive, but not pushy, and the food was delicious! What more can we ask for????"

  • "We were a party of six and sat at a nice round table in the room behind the bar. Our food was excellent but the waiter did mess up two of our orders. We all ordered the special salad with one with dressing on the side. The salad with dressing on the side didn't arrive correctly and had to be sent back. Our main dinners arrived. I ordered the lemon ravioli's and received a bowl of vegetables! That had to be sent back. It was too bad I had to wait for my entree while everyone ate!"

  • "Everything was great about this dinning experience, except our table was behind a post blocking the view of the bay. Why make a reservation if they don't save a good table for you? When you book on Open Table be sure to add a note and request an window table."

  • "Outstanding salmon preparation. The water was a bit too warm for my tastes though. Maybe it had been sitting in the sun."

  • "The linguine with clams was perfect. I'm from the Midwest and can't get restaurant food this good. I look forward to coming here the next time I'm in the area."

  • "My sister, husband and I had a lovely dining experience on Sunday evening. We had a table with a beautiful view of Richardson Bay. Ambiance was perfect. The menu was good and our food was REALLY good. I had the spinach/cheese ravioli which was wonderful. Our waiter was most attentive and helpful. Such a pleasant evening. We shall certainly return."

  • "We ate at Piattis' this weekend for dinner. Dinner was good but the restaurant and food could be improved. Our table was in a corner by the window; it was stuffy. We should have asked to move; we did enjoy the view. Our waiter was good but the other wait staff could be more customer focused; they just came by and dropped our oil and bread on the table. (literally). The pasta was good but it could have been more tender; filling was good and sauce was tasty. The worse part was the table was sticky; literally. It's resin is wearing so a tablecloth would help immensely. We used OpenTable and I guess the receptionist forgot or didn't check our reservation. We were seated promptly. Anyway, it's a staple but I won't return soon."

  • "The ravioli in lemon cream sauce was even better than I remember it, the asparagus/mint/blood orange salad was delightful, the pizza was good, and my husband enjoyed the ciopino. My cocktail (the cucumber gimlet) was delicious and not weak or overly sweet. I couldn't believe the size of the kids' pizza for $7. Very generous portion. Also, it was nice that the ravioli came in two sizes so I was able to get just as much as I needed for a very reasonable price. I have always loved Piatti but have not been to this location. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Have been to Piatti's a few times, this visit was to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our waitress was very attentive, even gave us a dessert on the house. Food was very good, portions were large. Although it was crowded and fairly noisy we had a cozy table for two, will be back again."

  • "We visited on a very busy Saturday night. But our table was ready and the service was prompt. The noise level was high enough that table conversation was difficult. I was disappointed that they did not have minestrone available, but the squash soup was okay. The chopped salad is a good meal in itself, my wife's shrimp in garlic sauce were artfully presented and delicious, and my meatballs with fresh mozzarella were excellent. The servers were very accommodating when my wife and I asked to share the salad. They serve decent house wine by the half litter, which is a good amount for two, and reasonably priced. All in all it was a very pleasant evening. We wanted to eat lightly and the menu offered a lot of interesting small choices."

  • "I'm never displeased. But my favorite dishes to share are the chopped salad and the pizza with sausage, caramelized onion and arugula."

  • "Food is excellent. It is new school Italian, and just delicious. Signature cocktails are good, but not worth $11. They're kinda average and small. It is also surprisingly loud in there when busy, but that's alright with me."

  • "Perfect for special occasion lunches. Ask for a table on the window side of the main dining area. Menu sticks to evolving winners. Happy Hour there is popular for 40+. Semi-private function room behind the end of the bar is perfect for mid-medium size groups ( 18-35) and have done more than one of both. Decent by-the-glass wine list. Main course servings can be of the "take-home" type. One of our favorite places."

  • "Good spinach, ricotta ravioli. Unfortunate that is was lukewarm, rather than hot. Made it taste as if just reheated, but not enough. Flavor there. Window table for lunch is nice. Noise level better. Pleasant atmosphere. Valet parking ( private party?) in lot. Feel the need to tip. Not sure if this was a one time thing."

  • "Sitting in the room off the bar was a decibel nightmare! We were seated at a table closest to the bar. When unable to hear each other, the server, anything but the roar of the crowd, we asked the door to be closed. He complied. Very nice waiter, food good as always, but the private DR not a good choice for dinner...especially Friday nights!!!!"

  • "We had a great dinner. The service was excellent,. The only issue was the noise level. We ate the first time at 6:30 (our mistake). Our next dinner was at 8PM and the noise was tolerable."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal there. We were looking for a casual place with pizza. We dinned on a few appitzers, a salad and shared 2 pizzas. The Pizza's were wonderful. If you wanted a full dinner you also had that choice. If you are going to be in the area. It is a great place to dine."

  • "Our guest from out of town had a fabulous time and said he never liked cauliflower until he tasted the cauliflower that came with his salmon. Mushroom soup was yummy. Excellent quality food with a focus on local produce. Too bad you can't see Mt Tam at night but during the day the view is really special."
