I Would not recommend this
restaurant to anyone. They are closing in a week at no surprise! The duck tasted like charred tri tip,the service was hasty and unprofessional, the hostess was getting ready to leave and sweeping the floors around our table while we were eating, the salmon we ordered as a replacement for the duck never arrived to our table. After 1 1/2 hours of just receiving a pathetic caesar salad and plate of cheese we were then charged for the duck! When I asked to have it removed from our bill the waitress and owner argued with us.... need I say more."

We were really excited for some
unique french cuisine that was not available. They were out of filet mignon and I made the reservation online to request they do something for my aunt's birthday. They did not follow through with the request. The food was good but not worth the price or the wait. The best part of the night was the live band that played directly behind us. Group of older gentlemen made the walk worthwhile."

The food didn't taste good which
was shocking. Service was slow and unprofessional. The patio had a fantastic view of the courthouse which is very romantic"

I'm a bit of a francophile and a
fan of traditional buckwheat crepes and cider. We chose the French Table for dinner the day after our wedding to celebrate that we had gotten engaged in Paris. Our dining experience lacked the French atmosphere that we were hoping for. The French Table no longer carries cider and the wait staff did not know how to pronounce the names of items of the menu. We ordered only one savory crepe each for dinner, hoping for a relatively quick meal before a show, and it took > 1 hour. The crepes were unremarkable (galettes were too dry, as if they had been prepped long in advance) and one of our water glasses tasted like soap."

I waited at the bar for my date
and there was no bartender. After 10 minutes someone asked if I wanted a drink. Once we sat down, service was haphazard and slow; had to chase down someone a couple of times for attention. (It did occur to me that maybe wait staff was short because someone didn't show, but that shouldn't impact customers.) Food was nothing special and my entree was cold. There was a musical trio which was too loud, and if you were sitting nearby it would have made it difficult to talk. Once they stopped at 8 pm it was much quieter and pleasant to talk. We were there only because everything else was booked; I wouldn't go back."

From greeting to seating to
eating....not what we expected. Server tried hard but was not trained in table service. Splashing wine, missing parts of the order, forgetting silverware, clumsy overall. Menu uninspired and sauce dominant. No repeat visit for this reviewer."

My wife ordered one thing and
after a long wait the meal brought to the table was something completely different. we ordered a appetizer and never got it. I don't know if the wite was new or not but a person shjould expect to get the meal he or she orders. This was Valentines Day and it turned out to be anything but romantic."

We have eaten here several times
and whilst there have been some minor service problems in the past, the help staff have always apologized, made us feel welcome, the food was great and it was always a fun place to spend an evening. NOT NOW. We were told...at the very end when we were paying our bill...that several staff had walked out earlier in the week. The new owner was wondering around the place but not talking to anyone at the tables. We'll wait to see what happens...we will not be dining there again in the foreseeable future."

Wonderful restaurant, just wish
they had more French wines by the bottle and glass that are affordable. There are so many good ones out there and the food here is worth it!"

We are new to Santa Barbara and we
tried The French Table for the first time for lunch. It was great to sit outside and do a little people-watching. The view is amazing.....with the Sunken Garden to one side and the gorgeous mountains as a backdrop. Food was great! Will definitely come back."

This is a delightful spot for
delicious food and quiet enough to have a conversation. Excellent service -- attentive but not intrusive."

Phenomenal. I enjoyed sitting
outside, it was very Santa Barbara-ish. It does get busy so go early. Food is very delicious. A must try in SB"

no recommendations or experience
here. an odd crepe but actually good. very few diners which i like but kind of makes a person nervous walking in. if you feel like a crepe - and i rarely do - this is your joint. waiter very nice fellow"

Very nice food and great service.
Enjoyed a special occasion."

Within walking distance of the
theater. Not too crowded. Good food. I will definitely dine here again."

A superb late lunch. Food,
service, ambience, value, all were fantastique. I enjoyed immensely the Caesar Salad with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and Crepe Suzette for dessert. My daughter relished the turkey baguette and banana/chocolate crepe. Delicious, all. Will definitely return and do highly recommend."
Dined on 11/8/2013
Failed to deliver. Main course
arrived before we finished our starters - really hate that."

I made the reservation figuring
this place would be busy on a Friday, but there was no one there. The hostess said we could sit wherever so we sat down and it took forever for someone to come over and take our order. Was surprised it was only beer and wine. Food was mediocre, took a long time to get there. The only thing that was good was the dessert crepe but I could get those anywhere. Talked to my friends about the restaurant and they have had the same experience with terrible service. Not willing to go back until they get their act together. They have one of the best locations and need to have a better service/menu."

Excellent meal overlooking the
Courthouse. Friendly, efficient staff."

I used to live in SB, but I
believe it is now under a new ownership. I had been to this restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Since I had not been back to this restaurant, I read the reviews before making our reservation. When we arrived, our table was not ready, but we did get seated fairly quickly. Food was just okay...I would not consider going back to this restaurant again."
Dined on 10/5/2013
The French Table offers a
moderately priced menu and very good quality food. You get a view of the courthouse at night - very nice. I'd recommend it any time."

We had our first Dinner Club this
month at TFT. With a cute patio like that I knew it couldn't go too wrong. Service was great, and we each got a different item on the menu that everyone seemed to enjoy. The $5 drinks kept us ordering more. The SBDinnerClub goes to one new restaurant per month. So as we may not be returning as a group, I know I, and probably a few others will be returning on our own. Thank you!"

We drove up from Los Angeles on a
day trip to Santa Barbara and had lunch at TFT. We had a great experience sitting on their beautiful porch/patio dining area, sipping cool drinks and indulging in the delicious cheese plate and entrees. It was quite for a Saturday, with just a few other small groups, but business was steady. I imagine this place gets busier on Sundays for brunch and for dinner service. The food was very good, a great mix of healthy and fresh with classic French dishes. My husband and I are vegetarians and we had many options to choose from. They had a great drink list of French classics and beer and wine from France as well as a few other basics. My husband tried a new kind of beer from France and loved it."

Charming French servers, but put
ice cubes in our Perrier... When asked about an ingredient, could not translate it in English.... Did not know whether soup had dairy... We had salad, cheese plate, tartar, entrees, but nothing that really stood out. The food was fine but not memorable. The crepes suzette was way too alcohol-y...unedible. Nutella crepe was better, but hard to ruin that!"

I've been to this relatively new
French bistro-style restaurant twice. Both times I ordered a stuffed crepe (Farmer and Vegetarian), which comes with a lightly tossed green salad. Both were delicious! Others at my table ordered the chicken burger with pommes frites (said it was delicious), the steak crepe, and a Caprese salad. Everything was great, except my friend who ordered the salad expected it to be larger. The waiter was politely concerned about this and asked her twice if he could bring her anything else. This restaurant has a big front porch with seating, plus a terrace along the sidewalk. It overlooks the beautiful grounds of the Santa Barbara courthouse: the most romantic view in town. I look forward to going back for dinner."
Dined on 8/23/2013
It was so unorganized I had to
wait 45 min for a bowl of soup. Many of the help only spoke french and didn't even know what I wanted. This was my second time there and my last."
Dined on 8/10/2013
All of the reviews about poor
service were completely correct. They're well intentioned but have no idea how to manage reservations and really couldn't find ours even though we made it on Open Table and had a confirmation. We also walked by the day before and confirmed it. We got there exactly on time and they had just given away the last table on the patio that we had reserved. They eventually got us a table, were very apologetic and comped us half the cost of a bottle of wine, but that didn't make up for the service bumbling that ensued. But at least the food was mediocre."
Dined on 8/3/2013
Had my wife and daughters there
for dinner on a Friday night, and based upon some of the reviews, was worries about the noise and staff attention... Well couldn't be more wrong, the staff were attentive, the food was well presented, met the expectations for the price, and the noise was not bad at all. It certainly wasn't a quiet bistro, but definitely not a raucous pub-grub place... I'd go there again, for sure!!!"

We chose to dine here before the
outdoor movie screening at the Sunken Gardens across the street. It made for a very fun, very Santa Barbara evening. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and the service was delightful."
Dined on 7/20/2013
Good food, decent service and good
location - my one complaint is the noise level - difficult to carry on a conversation over the din - the restaurant wasn't that crowded but the noise seemed to flow from all over to create that din."
Dined on 7/19/2013
The inside and outside dining
areas are nicely done. The food is nothing unique, in fact not noticeably French which is odd given the name and how it is advertised. . The service was sketchy and inconsistent."
Dined on 7/14/2013
Loved this place for it's tasty
menu and exceptional service. Authentically French in every way: gastronomie, service, ambiance. The outdoor patio has a lovely view of gardens & historic buildings across the street. The interior has a warm, casual French flair without being pretentious or trying too hard. The seafood risotto was delicious (and copious), and Julia Child couldn't have created a better beef bourguignon. The baby beet salad with citrus dressing, fresh cilantro and goat cheese mousse was amazing (and creative). I appreciated the fresh whipped cream on my "create your own" Nutella crepe, which was huge. Staff was French, friendly, ambitious and hilarious. For birthdays, they bring you a dessert with spectacular fireworks!"

I have lived in sb my whole life
and eat out almost every night. This was the worst service I have ever experienced. We had to wait 15 to even have our server greet us and ask us if we wanted something to drink. We had to get up twice after ordering our drinks just to ask if they were coming. This continued for the whole meal and we never got our dessert. I would not recommend this to anyone."

Delightful little bistro. Very
friendly staff and good food."
Dined on 6/16/2013
I have not been to too many French
dining establishments with "cajun" fries - service was quite good, the food was good, but I want more French or at least French themed options please. Beautiful facility, very friendly and engaging staff, and the food was first rate. But, less pasta, more French options please."
Dined on 6/4/2013
Great wine, soup and duck. The.
The crape was very dry and made with buckwheat. I would not order it again.the desserts were very good"

We had dinner on a Saturday night
with a group of six people. We had eaten here once before and really liked it. Love the atmosphere and our server was knowledgeable and polite. Our experience this time was not so good. There were only three other tables in the restaurant the entire time we were there. The food came out piece meal, seven minutes from first to last person. By this time our food had cooled down. The lamb burger was overcooked and dry. The risotto was a big scoop of rice with sliced steak on top, it was not creamy or flavorful. My beef bourguignon was chewy, and the crepe was just a wheat pancake with seafood poured on top of it open face, how strange. All in all our dining experience was disappointing."
Dined on 6/1/2013
Good service, bad food. Main
dishes were bad, overcooked and tough, Beef Stew french style, tough and tasteless. Pasta dish was a poor imitation of Pasta Carbonarra, deli sliced ham in a cream sauce with some garlic , very plain and unappealing. The appitizers were OK, THe service was better than the food, the View of the court house at night is spectacular, the best part of the evening."
Dined on 6/2/2013
We were hoping for good French
fare but were sadly disappointed. Fish had to go back the signature crepes were not good and crab burger was bland."
Dined on 5/26/2013
A fine meal can be enjoyed in the
early summer evening at The French Table. Excellent food and atmosphere combine for a memorable experience. The friendly staff are helpful and accomodating to ensure the best possible meal."
