Diner Reviews
  • "Overall I was happy with our experience as the atmosphere was excellent and the food was wonderful. But I had a reservation and still had to wait at least 10 min for our table and the service was just ok."

  • "We ate outside on a balmy night. . The small plate of a salmon skewer over a beet and arugula salad was perfect. Delicious, imaginative and just the right amount for a small appetite. One of my favorite neighborhood spots."

  • "Went with my dear friend who recommended it and enjoyed it so much. We started with the shrimp wrapped with bacon appetizer and the eggplant appetizer both delicious. We split a salad with apples, chicken, and other goodies can't remember the salad name was big enough for two no dessert but will come again for the buttermilk pie!!"

  • "The Phoenix City Grille is a neighborhood restaurant with all of the wonderful food, atmosphere and great service of a well known, long standing business. When I visit for lunch or dinner, I'm always greeted with a smile of recognition. The food is tasty and unique. My favorite is the salmon on a cedar plank. Their soups are delicious as are the salads. The bread pudding is my favorite and served to share. Service is outstanding and friendly."

  • "Tasty and healthy take on traditional fare. Selected the trout filleted and boned over A Flavorful vegetable and rice combo. Portions Are just right. Fun bar scene that does not interfere With a quiet dining experience."

  • "Bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer was good. Beat salad was falvorful. House salad lacked falvor and used regular lettuce, no spring mix. Pork Chop was cooked well and had good flavor. Paired with sides that enhanced the plate. Grilled tenderloin had little to no flavor. The sides paired with the meal lacked a balance. It provided only an "Earthy" palate. The dessert was pleasant and enjoyable. Our server was good and attentive. She would check on us frequently and was very professional. We would eat here again, but stay away from the house salad and tenderloin."

  • "The first thing we noticed was the noise level. But we adjusted to that. Our food was very good. Trout, salmon, and pasta entrees very tasty. Ribs a bit over-cooked but still good. Our server, though, must have been a newbie. He forgot to bring the olives for the martini and had to be reminded twice before he actually brought them. He completely forgot to bring our salads. But the food and the ambiance made up for the poor service. We would go back."

  • "First time and won't be the last. Right from the checkin to the finish, it was excellent. Server was vibrant, helpful and attentive. The food was top notch. We ordered appetizers and dinners, of which all were great. Thanks for a wonderful experience."

  • "Driven by a number of times but never went in. Received a gift certificate from a friend and went to check it out. Sat in the bar area on a gorgeous afternoon with the walls/doors open. Bar staff couldn't have been nicer or more fun to interact with. We kept the ordering to 3-4 appetizers, local beers (which they had a great selection of) and two desserts and we were consistently blown away by the quality of items the staff recommended as 'house favorites'. Definitely will return!"

  • "We went for our anniversary and had great food and awesome service. We will be back again! The eggplant bites are delicious, as is the short ribs and buttermilk pie!"

  • "It was an excellent dining experience. Good food and a wonderful place to go if you want to visit because the lighting is very pleasant and the noise levels are low. We brought friends that had never been there before and they loved it too!"

  • "Just celebrated my birthday at PCG and it was great vi love the Bethany Home salad to share. I enjoyed the steak tacos, my fav. My husband always has the chili. Friends had the eggplant yummy, another has a fish special. We finished off the dinner with buttermilk pie (oh my) and lemon curd cheese cake. A couple of friends had the bread pudding and seemed very happy I also have had lunch and brunch. Never disappointed"

  • "Phoenix City Grill is outstanding on many levels: a varied, American menu with traditional dishes with southwestern flair; a very good, reasonable wine list; a knowledgeable and attentive wait staff; excellent food from a very creative chef; and on-site local owners that are concerned about your total experience. Anyone in or near north central Phoenix should try this special place."

  • "Their menu is unique in regards to how they combine different ethnic food. They will take a soy-ginger glaze, peanut sauce& jalapeño jam in the same dish. I have never been disappointed with their menu. I have been going there for at least 10 years. I have friends that come from Chandler because of their delicious menu and their relaxed atmosphere. They are friendly and their over all service is always top notch."

  • "I have lived in central phoenix for many years and, although I was aware of Phoenix City Grille, I had never dined at this establishment until two evenings ago. I was initially pleased with the ambience and general surroundings and mood of the restaurant. Although the menu is somewhat modest I was very satisfied with my selection of the PCG Pasta. Although I ordered the small it was plentiful and extremely tasty. My other dinner companions also expressed a complete satisfaction with their meals. The service was fantastic and my first dining experience at Phoenix City Grille was favorable and certainly worthwhile. I know it won't be years before I return."

  • "My previously listed experience with The Phoenix Grille mentioned that they had slipped. Today, we went back and everything was fantastic. The burgers were cooked to order, the drinks, perfect, and the Sea Bass Special was melt in your mouth delicious and not over done and rubbery. Thank you Phoenix Grille for listening to comments and returning to your usual standard of perfection."

  • "This place has been in this location for well over 20 years & is consistently packed on the weekends. This entire intersection (16th Street & Bethany Home) is restaurant central for the neighborhood with a wide variety of great places to eat. For that reason, I think there must be a lot of competition for wait-staff because our server got my wife's order wrong. Once the mistake was pointed out to her, she apologized profusely and almost immediately brought out the correct order, piping hot. No harm, no foul in my book but the wait staff was kind of overrun with the crowded restaurant. If you go here, make an opentable reservation early or you'll have a wait to get seated."

  • "Made me look like a star with my dinner group - I found the restaurant on Open Table knowing I would have a group from work in Phoenix. I'm from out of town. Everyone enjoyed their meal and even those local to Phoenix enjoyed the restaurant. It's always dicey picking something at random. I would definitely dine there again."

  • "We took our out-of-town guests here, real foodies who have traveled a lot, and they loved the food as did we. Everything was perfect..both eye-appealing, correct temperature and oh so scrumptious! What a lovely night. We all left happy. Kudos!"

  • "I go to Salon Kismit on same strip...the gals there just love your restaurant and really promote it. I am a Palliative care nurse and stopped for lunch one day last month...was very impressed. Relaxing, smooth and lovely place to eat. My son came into Phoenix for a conference, from Ft Collins Colorado and my sis was here from Columbus Ohio so I made reservations early. Requested something for his birthday also. We got right in even though we were 15 minutes late, our waitress was darling and very professional and accommodating. Food was wonderful and the background music/sounds of other diners just enough to provide ambiance."

  • "We were visiting Phoenix and our hosts were taking us to their favorites, none of which was particularly great. Got on Open Table on my phone and found Phoenix City Grill. Great find. Every thing we ordered was well prepared and presented. Prices were reasonable. Our hosts have a new favorite."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at the Phoenix City Grille. Service was good. They had our reservations ready and we did not have to wait. There is a nice choice of food on the menu and everything was very fresh. We enjoyed it!"

  • "The appetizer and entrees are very good and service is very good too. I would give it 5 star if it wasn't for the drink. The mojito is bland and taste more like light lemonade."

  • "We were a group of seven and I'm glad we chose Phoenix City Grille. Everyone liked what they had and the service was excellent. The reservation we made was for 6:00 pm on a Friday, so the place was pretty crowded. The staff were understanding of us. Not everyone in our party made it on time and they were nice about seating us a little late. My wife and I have also eaten there in a weeknight, when traffic and parking aren't a problem in Phoenix. I definitely will come back."

  • "Food was excellent and service even better. Open table reviews help my decision to try out this place and glad we did. From hostess to server, they we all friendly and happy to have us. Although the food is considered All American, it had a delicious twist to every dish that we tried. We will definitely be back."

  • "We have dined at PCG many times over the past 10 years and have always enjoyed the food. Our experience the other night was marred by very poor service. 2 of the people at our table ordered soup to start and i ordered the skewers. The soup came fairly promptly but the other starter did not. When i asked the server about it, he explained that the soup was prepared in advance so he brought it out early before my starter was ready, rather than wait for my starter to be cooked and then dish out the soup and serve everything at one time. I was barely halfway through my 1st course when he brought the mains and placed them on the table. It felt like the waiter was in a big rush to go home."

  • "Great spot for dinner (haven't tried it for lunch yet). Menu has selections for all tastes and the variety made it hard to decide what to order. The cedar plank salmon was great as was the grilled asparagus. My companion enjoyed a vegetarian sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes and said every bite was perfect. Large wine menu with many affordable options and several intriguing types of alternate drinks. Will definitely go back. They had the accommodations we reserved ready when we arrived."

  • "Phoenix City Grille has become one of our favorite restaurants. We love the happy hour in the bar area, it's a very nice place to meet a couple of friends for dinner, or it's perfect for a romantic dinner for 2 (such as this .. Valentine's Day) The food is always excellent, as is the service. Try the eggplant bites or other appetizers. In fact, we love to make a meal of just appetizers in the bar at happy hour (Mon 3 - close) (Tue - Fri 3-6). We also used the floral service recommended by Open Table and had a floral arrangement waiting on the table when we arrived for our Valentine's Day meal."

  • "We went here for Valentine's day and it was a great experience. The only complaint I have was that it was a little loud and our table was really close to the other table, but those are just nit picky problems. The bar is great, with a large selction of beers, alcohol, and wine. The staff was friendly and seemed very happy to have us there. The server was very knowledgeable on the menu and had good suggestions. Most importantly, the food was GREAT! I highly suggest the fried corn cakes as an appetizer. All in all a great dining experience. We were very full and happy when we left."
