Diner Reviews
  • "7:30 reservation not seated until after 8:00. Party of 10 with my recommendation. Service was VERY SLOW. Food was OK, 2 meals sent back ice cold. Had been there many times before with good food and service, will return."

  • "We had a great experience at Philly G's. Our friends were visiting from out of town and we wanted place that gave us a chance to talk and enjoy great food. Our wishes were fulfilled! Our waiter, Paul, was very friendly and helpful. He explained all the dishes and made us feel welcome. My friends felt the dishes they ordered, linguini with clam sauce and bow tie asiago, were some of the best Italian meals they ever had. Overall, we had a great evening, spending time with friends and enjoying excellent food and service."

  • "We have season tickets to the Marriott in Lincolnshire. We always go to Philly G's for dinner. Fabulous food, quaint atmosphere, and superb service! Add to that only 5 minutes away from the theater and you have a winner."

  • "I'm not one to write good or bad reviews but Saturday night was by far the worst service I have ever experienced. It all started with the fact that after the hostess sat us and saw there was a chair missing, she went to "go get one" but never came back, a runner ended up getting one. All the drinks that our table ordered were never brought to us, my boyfriend had to go to the bar and retrieve them. In our party of 5, only 2 of us received our food about 10 minutes before the rest came out. We were thanked several times for our patience, but no appreciation was shown on the bill. Empty plates and drinks were barely cleared out of the way. I'm so disappointed that I may never return. I used to love this place but things have really changed!"

  • "My husband and I were going to the Lincolnshire Marriott theater and wanted to get dinner before the show. A friend talked about Philly G's, so we thought we would try it. The food was great and the service was just right. They made us feel at home. Very friendly. We had a wonderful dinner and had time to get to the theater. Will definitely go back to Philly G."

  • "My only fault with Philly's is the chilly searing on the Veranda, which causes your good to chill quickly. The food is very good and consistent."

  • "Maybe just an off night? Took 30 full min for server to even take order and while portions are huge, quality seemed barely mediocre. Boxed pasta and frozen chicken breasts type quality. Nothing seemed fresh. Menu was not very imaginative either. Place needs new management badly. Liked the ambiance of the hold home."

  • "Food was very good and very nice ambiance The waiter we had this time was overly aggressive in trying to run up our bill. Last time we were here we had a delightful waiter. I should have gotten his name. ."

  • "wonderful lunch again at Phily G's. Met a girlfriend for her 'belated birthday lunch'. Lunch specials are a good value. I mentioned to the waiter that it was my friend's birthday and he brought out (after asking our choice) a complimentary spumoni desert. What a nice treat."

  • "Philly G's is quiet with excellent wait staff. My only negative comment is that they were out of two items (salmon & skirt steak), but waiter gave free dessert to compensate."

  • "We've been going to "Philly G's" since it was Gilardi's in the 1980's, always a positive experience. However our last few visits three years ago were disappointing and we sadly thought that was the end of an era. Enter Groupon, with a sigh and hope in our hearts we bought the Groupon and headed to Philly G's for dinner. We couldn't have been more pleased. The fried calamari was back up to snuff- light, crispy and tender. The veal thin and tender. The scampi large and succulent not over cooked. We couldn't have been more pleased."

  • "...sitting the porch. Very quiet which was nice. Wasn't planning on a sandwich but glad I did..highly recommend the Skirt Steak sandwich topped with blue cheese and fried onions. The calamari appetizer, while fried, is prepared differently...tastes lighter than most. I crave it now. Decent wine list, slightly above average prices."

  • "Philly G's is always consistent in the high quality of their meals - authentic old-world recipes still made with loving care. And the servers are always attentive to your every need. Great food, great wine list, and great fellow customers in the expanded bar area for you to join after your dinner for live entertainment - what's not to love?"

  • "The restaurant is very pretty and cozy inside. The food was average to good. Our waitress is what spoiled the experience. She was not unpleasant, but had absolutely no personality. And she had such a soft voice we could barely hear her. I don't think she cracked a smile at all. Maybe just a bad night for her..."

  • "Meals are always consistent just like the service. Hadn't gone here for years and then a friend reintroduced us. Now we're regulars."

  • "Decent food and service. Go every few months when desiring a known eatery. This last time one our two entrees - a flattened chicken breast dish was not up to standard as not a good piece of chicken and in hindsight should have sent back and reordered."

  • "Delivered the wrong order, offered to correct it, and the person in our party sat and waited for 15 minutes while everyone else ate. They finally delivered the order, and didn't really seem to care about the mistake. No apologies, nothing. It almost felt like they blamed us. They offered nothing but a shrug for the inconvenience. This place gets a little worse every time we go."

  • "Phenomenal entrees. Wonderful minestrone. Pretty lousy grilled calamari; I expected non-rubbery... Disappointing profiterole; virtually no filling, kind of heavy dough, and sauced with a soupy milk chocolate soup rather than a dark chocolate ganache. Waitress (Anjelica(?)) was VERY attentive, even after she got pretty busy. Kudos to her, and the bus staff."

  • "We split the warm goat cheese appetizer, which was quite good with the toasted panini wedges. I had the eggplant parmigiana which was very good, though not hot. The side potatoes though seemed old. My husband had the special pork chops but he said they didn't taste made fresh... He also had the minestrone soup (entrees come with soup or sald), but the minestrone had pork! He didn't enjoy it that much. Just ok. We also had the tiramisu ( very good), and the domestic wine was got. I have to give a special mention to Oleg our server, who was very attentive. As other reviews mentioned, the decor is a bit fancy -dated and some tables too close to each other. The upstairs hostess also was very nice and checked on us a couple times."

  • "First of all, food was ok but not worth the price they charge. Second, service was incredibly slow and lacking, at times we felt completely ignored. There are a lot of other italian restaurants with better good, better price, and better service."

  • "Took a business colleague from east coast here for dinner. They loved it! Food and ambiance was fantastic as always."

  • "Overall it was a nice dinner. The Calamari is a little too chewy for my taste and the appetizer sampler is not worth the money per person. You only get one mushroom and clam (all breading, no meat) per person and they are very small; the appetizer tray is basically all calamari. The dinners for the most part were well received by the group. Shrimp Scampi was good, the Seafood Diavola was definately not worth the money and had NO flavor. I would stick to steaks, Parmigiana Crusted Salmon or the traditional pasta dishes. Potato pancakes are a good side, the soup was great, but the side salad was small (house & creamy garlic dressings are amazing; get it on the side though, they way over dress). The house Pinot Grigio is a wonderful wine!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Philly G's last Saturday night. The restaurant is beautiful. They checked our coats and seated us within minutes of our arrival. Our waiter was new and didn't know much about the specials or entrees. He ran by us several time with quick "how are you doing". I had the salmon special for $26 and my husband has a Gnocci and broccoli entrée that was supposed to be a house specialty. Mine was ok and his had absolutely no taste. The house salads seemed to come out of a bag of lettuce with 1 tomato and cucumber slice. We pretty much shared my meal. Our dinner was $60 plus tip and it was mediocre food. I will not return. Dinner at Olive garden would have had more flavor at half the price."

  • "Despite the wind and freezing temps., we made our way to Philly G's. We totally enjoyed our dinner on Friday night, 1/3/14. Wonderful service and food. We were shown to a table on the glass enclosed porch and were warm and cozy while watching the snow skim off the roof, the lights reflecting off the icicles. We were reminded of Steamboat Springs where we have enjoyed a meal or two while watching the snowfall. So much thought was put into keeping out the winter temps. Our entries, sausage with rotini pasta, and shrimp scampi, were redolent in garlic and oregano. Scrumptious. Our waitress, Eva, was amazing. So helpful and receptive to any request we made. We shall be back."
