Diner Reviews
  • "Not worth it. Bloody Mary gross. Mimosas tastes like Sunny D splash cheap champagne. No bubbles at all. Asked waiter 4x for my included coffee. Pancakes as straight from the box"

  • "We went for brunch this past weekend and it was really good food. The problem was this place is advertised as an all you can drink brunch spot...problem was there were too many rules and the drinks were awful. Rules for brunch there is a hour 15 minute limit to your drinking and it can only be served as long as you're eating. The mimosas were very weak and the bloody mary was so thick it was hard to drink. One of the worst bloodys I've had in a long time. I'd go back for the food but not for brunch."

  • "Philip Marie is really a bargain. The food is good and the prices are very reasonable. Sitting outside on a beautiful summer evening makes this a special place to enjoy a good dinner."

  • "I am a frequent guest for brunch and I organized a group brunch in honor of a friend who was in town visiting. Everyone was very pleased with his/her meal and the price points are good on most budgets. They have one of the better unlimited deals in the city and the food is quality. They were also very accommodating when I wanted substitutions in an entree, because I don't eat eggs. Overall, I highly recommend."

  • " Our poor waiter was forced to ask us to leave after an hour and 15 min as the manager stood over him keeping time a a encouraging this kind of awkward interaction. Would have been able to eat within the time limit if anyone had come to our table within the first 15 min of sitting down. Service was slow, orders were wrong and while all of this was the restaurants fault, they still held us to their silly time limit just so they could turn more tables. We will not be returning."

  • "The food here is always top notch. The crab cake benedict was especially delicious. And get the unlimited mimosa, but be aware that there is a time limit. I read online that it was 1 1/2 hours, but they stopped serving them to us after one hour. If you still have room for dessert, the hot brownie sundae is perfection!!"

  • "Lovely neighborhood restaurant. Fantastic service and great food usually. Only complaint was paella that was seasoned with a flavor that was unusual and a bit too spicy for me."

  • "Looks like I missed the grand heyday of Philip Marie. My friends and clients have raved about this place, so my expectations were VERY high. Don't get me wrong, the food was okay and the service was great, but the ambience wasn't what I thought it would be. Apparently, the brunch menu was scaled down. In general, this place is clean and the service was good. I gave it four stars because the general manager was bartending and he was lovely."

  • "I usually don't write reviews, but this was a disappointing experience. While the food we had at brunch was very, the restaurant did not have orange juice available for mimosas and the coffee we were served was warm, at best. Service was slow, and no regard for customer experience was emphasized. I would not recommend this place to others."

  • "The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and pleasant. The mussels special was wonderful. There was such a grand selection of appetizers, salads and special plates that we ordered numerous and they were all terrific. I would repeat all of them. I preferred to eat inside in the AC, but it has a nice outside seating area. I liked everything about the restaurant and so did my friends and they are tough critics."

  • "Consistently good food. We shared the portobello fries as an appetizer, which are tasty and not greasy. I had the chicken pot pie which is a huge pie filled with chicken and vegetables and not gloppy at all. I've had that several times before and it never disappoints."

  • "Have been here at least four times previously and each time the service was quick and friendly. The food is outstanding. I recommend the Mediterranean Sea Bass with couscous."

  • "While the food is always delicious, we have dined at Philip Marie often, the manager really screwed up the evening; that's why we would not recommend to a friend and this is a first. After being told our table would be ready for us in 15-20 minutes, we were asked to leave the bar and be seated at our table after the wait. However, the manager had seated another couple at our table. Needless to say we were not very impressed. No apology, no complimentary drinks, nothing. Not a very good approach to wanting us to continue as regular customers. Needless to say, how could we ever recommend Philip Marie to any of our friends. Most disappointing; so much for wanting loyal customers to keep coming back and using the power of referrals."

  • "What a wonderful experience. The restaurant hostess was very accommodating to seat us near the window. It was the best seat in the house. The food and service were excellent."

  • "Continue to come here for dinner after many years. Enjoy the ambiance and food. Will continue to come back. Good prices for good food."

  • "Half a lobster, 6-8 clams and plenty of mussels and baby shrimp steamed in a seafood tomato broth. Half an ear of corn and baked potato in the side. Not a traditional clam bake simply steamed with red bliss potatoes and melted butter, but very reasonably priced and generous. Will def go back."

  • "One of my favorite brunch spots in the city. I have also been for dinner and never had a meal I did not like or a server who was not friendly!"

  • "A friend had been here a couple of times and suggested it for a recent Village pre-theater dinner. The service, though good, was almost too cheerful and attentive. Would not recommend based on very so-so food."

  • "We watched them pour soda water into the pitcher of "Mimosas"...shameful."

  • "I asked for a quiet table so we were seated in a nook in the front window. It was very comfortable and cozy. The servers were very attentive and helpful and the menu had some very interesting and well-priced choices. We very much enjoyed the whole experience."

  • "we had the table by the window, which fit 5 very comfortably. food was excellent, portions huge, and watching the street life was fun. a step up from the average neighborhood restaurant, in a lively spot. Was a great choice for a pre-Village Vanguard outing."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely early dinner before a choral concert (down the avenue at St. Luke in the Fields). The food was interesting without being fussy, and the service attentive but not hovering. It was a nice step up from having a quick bite before a concert, which usually involves bar food or something on the fly. One of the nicest aspects is that the wine selections, the menu items, and the ambiance all complemented each other, and all seemed to fit in the price range of each other -- it shows a well-thought-out business model when those things all agree (as opposed to places where the decor tries to be too many things to too many people, or the wine by the glass is more dear than the entrees)."

  • "I have been here a few times and the service is awesome and the food is just on target and lovely! Try it out - lots of space to sit and enjoy your meal without folks on top of you"

  • "We very much enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The food was excellent, the wait staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive, the wine list is very good. "

  • "I was looking for a great place for a celebrator dinner and night out - something with great food, ambiance and a wine list. Philip Marie hit the nail on the head with it. We were greeted right away and taken to our table (outdoor seating as already full) and the server was attentive. The menu is diverse and had great options for any palate. After choosing an exceptional wine, it paired well with the baked brie (one of the best I can remember having) we were disappointed when we were advised the 2nd bottle was not that cold just before our entrees arrived. They offered to chill it and I opted for another selection. I would definitely go back again and try more off their menu without hesitation."

  • "Food took quite a long time for not being busy, 10:30am Sunday. I had the Lumberjack. Eggs not properly cooked, pancakes no flavor, overcooked pruned looking sausages and bacon that was way too crunchy+ cold. Served with room temperature greasy potatoes. Music playing way too loud, servers and managers talking at the bar was obnoxious. "

  • "This is my go-to spot for any special occasion, and it never fails to deliver. Went here for a Mother's Day dinner and had a lovely time. Food was delicious, waiters attentive and friendly (but never overbearing), and the atmosphere was intimate and allowed for good conversation. Truly a wonderful experience."

  • "Came here for dinner a few months ago and food was pretty good, so I decided to take 2 friends to brunch. I know most brunch places have to set rules about "bottomless" mimosas, but we were literally kicked out at 75 minutes, when we waited WITH A RESERVATION for over 20 min for a table. I would've overlooked the slow service if it wasn't for the hair I found in my food after I ate over half of it!"

  • "Cozy, quaint, and charming but still modern and upscale. Consistently friendly and attentive service with great food, Philip Marie never disappoints. "

  • "I went to Phillip Marie for a girls night out. The wine was very reasonable-we split one bottle of wine for only $32 and it was delicious. I ordered the Filet Mignon special that was only $28. It was fabulous and very tender. It was a very affordable night out in West Village and I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We loved every bite. The fried green tomatoes are to die for. So many great things on the menu. Great spot for a romantic date or small group since the tables are a bit tight. Looking forward to coming back for one of their special night menus. "

  • "There are a lot of great eats in West Village, and so I'm not saying that this is much better than everything else, I'm just saying that the dining experience that I had was outstanding, and that I will definitely be coming back. I took my friend for her birthday, and we had the mussels, the polenta, the baked brie, and mushroom fries. The only thing I wouldn't order again was the baked brie. The polenta in particular was stunning, and the mussels were a great deal (HUGE pot for $13!). We spent around $50 total, far less than expected for the quality of food and service (our waitress was friendly and very frank about what she thought was good, which was refreshing), as well as the large-ish portions (except the brie, which was small). "

  • "Food was good, but for some reason, not seasoned very well tonight. First time for that. Also, although the restaurant was not crowded, it took an inordinate amount if time for our food to arrive. Off night."

  • "Had a reservation here as reviews were great and its in West Village. Hey must be good I thought! The clientel was very average, they had run out of the two wines were tried getting... felt un-organized. Had the seafood platter which was massive and very cheap so thumbs up for that! "
