Diner Reviews
  • "We've never had a bad meal at Philip Marie ... service is always good, the food delicious. Sunday night is BBQ night; most of us had the BBQ special of Ribs and sides - all fantastic. Great ambience, great cocktails, great food..."

  • "This was a really BAD meal, ineptly cooked, sloppily presented and embarrassing, since I invited people here. LAST TIME I EVER GO THERE."

  • "The Philip Marie is a very nice restaurant on Hudson Street with a recommendable tasting menu on THursday at a very affordable price!"

  • "excellent food, a little small portion wise but no complaints. excellent service. Just can't believe that with a 700 dollar bill we were not even offered an after dinner drink by the owner who was present"

  • "I'll definitely be going back. The food was terrific. Two of us split the hearts of palm salad which had beets, arugula, and blue cheese. I love that they split the salad for us on separate plates unlike some other restaurants that just provide two forks! The bread was also tasty - two types. As my main, I had their chicken pot pie which had really flaky pastry and generous chunks of chicken in every bite. This was a really generous sized chicken pie which was really quite satisfying! My partner had the fish taco dish which came with two tacos, each one having two generous sized pieces of fish along with a tasty mango/tomato salsa and a side of matchstick fries. The waiter was friendly, funny and helpful and made us feel very comfortable."

  • "I have to admit that although the place has a calm atmosphere we were really disappointed by the food - esp for the price. nothing we ordered had much flavour (and we tried 7 of the main courses so lots of comparison). the portions were standard America big but just lacking something. drinks menu was ok but again also quite pricy. although the service was friendly we will not be hurrying back."

  • "Do not eat here. The service is horrible - the wait staff is focused on just keeping the alcohol pouring but not interested in taking your order."

  • "I have been to this place for brunch for twice a few years ago, it was always very busy and of course the quality somewhat didn't impress me. After a few years I came here for lunch, it was perfectly pleasant. Quiet, attentive service, good food with inexpensive price and big portion. I strongly recommend to come here for lunch during the weekdays. Haven't tried the dinner here, but will try sometime for sure."

  • "The music is pumping here and the customers and staff are dancing. Brunch has some rules about time, but otherwise this place is in the heart of great shopping and the staff know how to treat people well. We had a fabulous time eating and enjoying the atmosphere. I highly recommend for those looking for some tasty food and a fun ambiance."

  • "The restaurant was great! Tried out their brunch and would definitely recommend. Food was excellent, surprisingly large portions so we could have probably split. The owner came and chatted with our group and was super friendly. Would highly recommend for locals and out of town guests."

  • "Had dinner at Philip Marie's on a Friday evening at 7 PM. The place was busy, but not loud or crowded. Our waitress, LARA ( hope that's the correct spelling ) was a gem, appearing at times magically, at my elbow, to fill my glass with water, pour more wine or generally just inquiring about the meal. She was attentive, without hovering, and very knowledgable about the menu. The food was very good. I had the seafood chowder, sliders, followed by the duck. My companion had the steak tip salad, and stuffed chicken breast. All were delicious, however I would consider the portions on the large side. Overall, it was very good and not at all pricey."

  • "I had a 1:30PM reservation although I did not get seated until 2:15PM. I had to ask the hostess twice how much longer and received barely any sympathy. Once seating we had to wait about a hour for food and had to ask how much longer one more. When we requested the bill we had to follow up to get that as well! Extremely disappointing."

  • "Went for brunch with family - group of 6,and had a great time. Place was packed but they sat us at our table (we had reservations) within a few minutes. The service and food were very very good! The omelette was best I've had in long time, moist and FILLED with spinache, mushrooms, goat cheese. You can make omelettes to order. We had the inclusive all you can drink Mimosas or Bloody Mary's for $25, and the waitress was generous coming around with pitchers. The music was a little loud for talking, but lots of fun and I would definitely return"

  • "So I often host brunch parties here with various size groups. The food usually amazing was a bit off this time. And not to worry I have submitted my feedback to the people who make decisions! This place is very accommodating, the servers are brilliant ( my friends gave them a run for their money), and the manager offered us a free bottle of wine when we come back for dinner. Please note that this place is LOUD during brunch. I enjoy the energy but my friend hates the level of noise, so make a note! Enjoy."

  • "Made this reservation on a whim to go to with my friends to celebrate me running the NYC Half Marathon. I had never heard of it but boy am I glad I've gone. This was easily the most fun brunch I've been to. So great for the younger crowd- a bit loud but that's what we like. Beyonce spinnin' and our waiter was HILARIOUS. I believe also the manager of the restaurant or manager on duty was extremely friendly and hilarious as well. We had so much fun and the food was also great. Chocolate chip pancakes were perfectly sized and my friends loved their alcoholic drinks. Can't wait to return!!"

  • "I went here for the first time with an old co worker and I fell in love. So much in fact, that I brought over my boyfriend the very next week! He also enjoyed it. We both loved the bottomless mimosas (yum) and the food (we went for the "make your own omelet" option: sausage, bacon and mozzarella for him, mushroom, sausage, and mozzarella for me). The music was great too and the waiters were extremely attentive. Recommended this place to my other friends and we may go as a group very soon."

  • "I came here with my boyfriend and had an excellent time. Our server was excellent at describing food and answering questions and was incredibly professional and polite. We shared the portobello fries as an app and really enjoyed the sauce that came with them. I had the leg of lamb entree and was very happy. The lamb was cooked as I ordered and the flavors came across nicely. He ordered the stuffed chicken and was thrilled with it. OVerall, the food was great and we had a really nice time. I would definitely come back to try other dishes."

  • "We went for Valentine's Day dinner so we already expected not as good food as a standard night. They had some very interesting things on the menu. The baked bri was surprisingly light tasting. The citrus salad appetiser was also great. So the meal did open with a bang of good food. Sadly, the stuffed lobster was sub-par, overcooked, and just too much stuff on one dish that it confused the palate. And the mixed berry trifle was uninspired. There was a customer who made an inappropriate scene at the restaurant. The management did a FANTASTIC job managing the situation so other customers' experiences were not impacted. Kudos for that!"

  • "I was with my 2 sons, ages 12 and 15. When I first entered Philip Marie, I though that perhaps I should have just gone to a local diner. However, my mind was shortly put to ease by our server, Cameron. Great attitude and very helpful with brunch selections for my sons. The food was great! We all enjoyed, especially the skillet potatoes. The only negative was the price for apple juice, it was typical of being served drinks from a bar. Other than that, it was a great experience!"

  • "my only complaint is the noise level at brunch -- the music was blasting way to loud - we asked if they could lower it - my table of four had trouble hearing each other . The service was great -- our waiter and buslady very attentive. The manager made a point of coming over to introduce himself to us ."

  • "So the oysters and escargot were amazing as was the wild boar filet with pancetta . Loved the strawberry fields drink !!! The service was a little slow however it was worth the wait. I'd go back"

  • "I've been to the Thursday Night Wine Pairings on and off for about 4 years and always walk away shocked that this isn't drawing lines. It's probably my favorite "special" in the city. When you compare it to the meager portions you get for Restaurant Week and consider this is cheaper, includes wine pairings...anyway, I'm always shocked Philip Marie is so under the radar."

  • "Got to the restaurant on time, it was busy but I figured it shouldn't be an issue because I have a reservation. Except the restaurant magically could find a record of my reservation, said "I don't know why opentable keeps doing this to us" and "helpfully" offered to put me on the waiting list. No thanks."

  • "Went there for dinner, had a drink at the bar first. Bartender was friendly and knowledeable. Waitstaff at the table was always ther when you needed, not when you didn't. Would definitely go back again."

  • "Food was wonderful, service attentive, and the place was fairly empty this wintry day. Sometimes, when a place is empty, the service deteriorates, but not this day. Our server was perfectly attuned to our needs, without being intrusive. A great way to spend a dark day."

  • "I gazed, gestured and finally called for half an hour before anyone took drink orders for my guests. Finally I had to walk over to a server. Then it was another hour before we were fed, and again I suspect the food appeared only because I asked a waiter to check on it. So my 7pm reservation got us dinner at 8:40. Interestingly, my guests were offered more drinks lots and lots and lots and lots of times before the food appeared. Is that a strategy? Who cares, because I'll never come back here again. Food was OK, nothing special. I am a native Manhattanite and was treating my colleagues to dinner. I was really embarrassed that they had to suffer through this."

  • "The food and service are quite good as are the prices. We will eat here again."

  • "Went here for brunch with friends. The eggs were overcooked and not particularly good. After leaving we all had very upset stomachs despite ordering different dishes. I would not go back here, especially since there are so many other cute places in the area."

  • "I always make a reservation and am seated almost immediately at a table of my choice if available. The Wait-Staff attends to you within 2 minutes to take your drink order and tell you the specials for the evening. Bread and a dish with olive oil and balsamic are brought to the table for you enjoy, while you decide what you want to order. The waiters are prompt and the wait time for your meal is usually 10 to 15 minutes, depending on what you ordered. I have to give "Props" to waiter Jason who is leaving at the end of this month for a new job. He will be sorely missed. The other waiters are equal to the task. The food is outstanding and should not be missed. A fun place to eat!!"

  • "When we first arrived to the restaurant was quiet and a few patrons. As it got later, it got busier and energized. Wonderful food, ambiance and service. We are definatelly adding Philip Marie to our Fav restaurant list."

  • "Loved the menu but all the appetizers and food came out lukewarm. I was looking forward to a great meal but disappointed. Would probably not return. It is too bad because I really liked the space. The waiter was wonderful"

  • "I came here for brunch this past weekend with 4 of my friends and they sat us on time, the waiter was excellent and attentive, and the food was delicious. I split the chocolate chip pancakes and eggs florentine with my friend and both were so tasty! They also have a great bottomless brunch deal for $25, which includes an entree with unlimited mimosas and bloody marys. I will definitely be returning here and highly recommend this place. If Berto the waiter is there, ask for him - he was the best."
