Diner Reviews
  • "Spent a romantic weekend downtown Petterino's helped make it a success"

  • "The food was wonderful. We had a 5:30 pm reservation and were done just in time for the 8 pm Goodman play next door. It was a bit slow but worth it."

  • "Happened to be downtown for a meeting and chose Petterino's for lunch. Service was efficient, food was tasty with several non-meat options for a Lenten Friday. Great choice - would go back."

  • "Never had I had such a bad dining experience. The reservation is for 5:45 p.m. and its my 40th birthday but the only table that the restaurant will seat my party at is directly next to the front door that's in a hallway. All the food was over-salted and the wait staff treated my party as if we were wasting their time. Never will I eat here again nor at any other Leye operated restaurants. Unbelievably awful experience which ruined a milestone event."

  • "I bring my family to dine with you and view wildlife with the Goodman. Great double play combo!"

  • "I was pleased to have dinner Friday evening and not feel like I was rushed. The Kupcinet salad was good. The fish was cooked to perfection. We had calamari as an appetizer, which was cooked well.there was an ample portion. Our waiter was attentive."

  • "This was the first "real" date night for my wife and I since our daughter was born - what a treat it was. After taking one of the gangster bus tours (about a 1-mile walk), we arrived early for our reservations, which allowed us time for a drink at the bar which was a fun and romantic atmosphere. They were able to accommodate and got us a table earlier than expected. The drinks were great, food excellent and service all around was phenomenal. My wife and I both agreed that we would come back in a heartbeat. To top off a great night, our server treated us with a complimentary slice of chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream. Overall, I would rate our visit/experience a +10/10"

  • "My sisters and I wanted to enjoy a nice meal before seeing a play. We wanted to budget accordingly for our big outing, so it was nice to find a restaurant with a prixe fixe menu. There was a very nice selection of apps from which to choose - I had the crab cake on a bed of corn relish, and it was outstanding! For my entree, I decided on the horseradish crusted whitefish. Our server was kind enough to offer a different side dish for that (I'm not a brussel sprout fan), and I had butternut squash. Absolutely delicious! By the time dessert rolled around, I was lucky to have a little room left for the chocolate mousse cake, and it did not disappoint. We will definitely dine at Petterino's again!"

  • "Wait staff is fantastic! If you're attending The Goodman, I would recommend reservations or take advantage of the "5 for 5" happy hour at the bar."

  • "I really like Petterino's wine flight and their fixed price pre-theatre dinner."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Petterino's is a good place to eat, but the staff sometimes thinks it's a great place and expects you to feel the same. Get past that slight attitude issue and this is a great choice for a business lunch (if you can get a booth instead of a banquette), pre-theater or a dinner. The entrees are uniformly good, service is almost always attentive and the prices are reasonable. Catch them on a good day, though. When the restaurant is crowded, it can be a bit of a zoo and the noise level can be unbearable."

  • "Foodies will appreciate the HOME MADE pasta and gnocchi. Our server was absolutely tops."

  • "Very fine food, not pricey for the quality. A bit on the loud side, but if you have time and appetite, it's well worth it."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Great location for pre-Goodman dining, and the menu is varied and tasty. Sometimes the noise level is high enough to make it difficult to hear dining companions."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Food was delish and service was great, even during busy lunch hour. We went a little later to avoid most of the crowds. They threw in free dessert, which was yummy."

  • "After several unsuccessful attempts to get a reservation, we finally succeeded, albeit for lunch. We now know why it's so popular, especially for Goodman theatre goers. Food is very good, and the atmosphere is really comfortable and pleasant. If you have leftovers, the restaurant will hold them for you until after the performance. Really only downside (other than trying to get a reservation!) is that it is very noisy."

  • "We have been here several times, usually before the theater, and always love it. This time not so much. Service was a bit spotty, I think maybe we had a new waiter, who seemed to be all over the place, except at our table. Not that we needed anything, but usually they check in w/you, ya know? Saw him once, and then got the check. Oh, and I ordered a second glass of wine, but he brought me a Dewars and soda, my pre-eating drink. No big deal, I guess. Spaghetti and meatballs have really a-spicy meataballs, so just an FYI. Still love this place and the Sardi's like feel to it, will continue to go there. Oh, and the bread is so freaking good, and the soups outstanding. Still highly recommended."

  • "Picked restaurant for its convenience to the Goodman Theater and had a wonderful dinner. Excellent service, too."
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "I've been to this restaurant several times and have never been impressed. The ambiance is nice enough, but this is Lettuce Entertain You at its most mediocre. The service was inattentive, and the food is forgettable at best. I will, however, definitely remember that my chicken club sandwich had only 2-3 ounces of chicken. You can get a better sandwich almost anywhere else, including the McDonald's across the street. Other than its very convenient location in the theater district, there is virtually nothing to recommend Petterino's."

  • "Get the Seafood Louis Salad! Delicious - filling but light enough to be perfect before seeing a show at one of the many theaters in the area. The 'mini' dessert cart is a terrific way to top off your meal. Service was quick, professional, and my water glass was never empty (my pet peeve)."

  • "I had a business dinner and meeting at Petterino's on Monday night, 3/31/14. Excellent service and attentive, savvy staff. Food was great and delivered to our tables very quickly after ordering. I always recommend Lettuce Entertain You restaurants to friends and colleagues and pretty much dine at them exclusively whenever I am in Chicago. The food and service and overall quality is always outstanding and the restaurants are very well managed."

  • "Petterino's never disappoints. The service is great and the place is always buzzing. Nice atmosphere and great service. Good place for dinner before going to the Goodman Theater. Their tomato bisque soup is a great way to start your meal."

  • "I always appreciate having things done without me asking for them and Petterino's produces! The gnocchi was great, the coffee was hot, aromatic and tasty! Skipped appetizers and had dessert...highly recommend the dessert! Vanessa, our wait person, was fantastic, friendly and made the experience very pleasurable! Great place to go before or after any theater production!"

  • "My sister and I took my parents (late 60s) to Petterino's before a show on Sunday. Our server was extremely rude, blunt and unaccommodating. We were looking to enjoy our brunch as a family. Unfortunately, we were treated so poorly that it spoiled our afternoon. We were not looking for the best service we've ever had, but we certainly did not want to be treated like second class citizens. We will definitely not be returning."

  • "Great food, friendly service, convenient to theatre in Chicago."

  • "I went to Petterino's with my adult son who has special needs and a young couple. The first time we went for Sunday brunch before a show. This time we made the trip before visiting the museum. My son loves the caricatures of all the famous people. He also loves brunch, and food that looks familiar to him. I have to say both times the food was delicious when we went. On one occasion we were walk ins and sat at the bar and, had quick service before a theater show. I loved the lemon ricotta pancakes. Mmmm. This time we went for Saturday lunch, and it was marvelous again. Loved the Lemon Meringue pie in fact never tasted a pie as good as that. I had the white fish which was perfect. The restaurant exceeded our expectations both times."

  • "highly recommend for pre-theater - service great, food excellent, nice prix-fixe offering and walk to any theater. lovely atmosphere, good wine list and loved our entrees."

  • "Good for theatre dining due to proximity. Good food and service, however noise level was very high, tables were crammed together, and the temperature was stifling!"
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "The food service was slow and we had to ask for a bread basket. Also food was served cold, steak diane, ugh!! Had to send back to the kitchen for rewarming. Who eats COLD steak diane. Did not seem to affect the waiter. He offered nothing in return. Food was bery plain and unappealing. Could they not give a side of vegetables or offer a potato with their entree?? The price fix menu was way too costly. It would be cheaper to order separately."

  • "I must have passed this restaurant 1,000 times. On the night of a show, we were starving & needed to eat in a hurry. The server made sure we were out on time. The drinks are delicious and the food was exactly what we expected. Home cooked taste & satisfying."

  • "Petterino's is a great place to dine after a play at the Goodman or any time."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "In the city for theatre, we chose Petterino's due to it's reputation and a previus experience with appetizers at the bar. Unfotunately, we were disappointed. Although chosen from the restaurant specialties, neither entre was impressive nor particularly hot. The pasta dish was better than the chicken, which was dry & not well seasoned. The service was also slow. 0n a more positive note, the wine & bread were excellent."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "My wife and I are never less than impressed with LEYE restaurants and Petterino's doesn't fail to live up to those expectations. Loved the ambiance, food, and service. A++"
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "Great spot if you're going to the theatre - right in the heart of everything. If you get there after the theatre crowd, it's a lot quieter. Service is excellent. We ate light and I went very traditional - meatballs and spaghetti - just what I needed on a cold night after a long day of work! The ambiance and decor is definitely old Chicago - right out of a movie and always interesting - including some of the characters that are obviously regulars. Fun time especially if you're a visitor to the city."

  • "I dined with a couple of friends and we enjoyed the service, environment and definitely the food! We had the crab cakes, whitefish and the seabass. It was like the food was making love to our tongues. Great job!"
