What a find! Right across from the Forrest and they did a great job making sure we had plenty of time to get to the theater. My partner and I got two small plates and two medium--perfect amount of food, diverse, beautifully presented and imaginative combination of ingredients. Plus, it was reasonably priced. A wonderful experience.

I noted in my 5:45 reservation that we were going to a 7:30 show. Resturant is perfectly located across the street from theatre. All the staff acknowledged and worked in harmony to make this a perfectly timed experienced. Even nicely a compacted one of our group who was running significantly late. Best part was food is delicious ! Perfect sharing type of menu - with lots of variety.

Though the food was good, it was expensive for what was offered. It was food for "foodies" and not hungry people looking for a good meal. Each dish looked great and included a lot of different ingredients but we were still hungry when we left. Drinks very expensive. Very noisy with loud music made it difficult to have a conversation over dinner. Probably won't go back.

Petruce et al is great! Really creative and wonderful preparations..the carrots and sweet potato small plates were delicious, as was our sea trout ( med plate) and sea bass with housemate lamb sausage ( large plate). It is nice you have 3 different sizes of courses to chose from, to mix and share. Large plates are equivalent to modest-sized entrees. The " et al" section, are truly large plates meant to be shared. Also, even though the grilled bread costs $2, it worth it. Friendly service snd nice wines by glass. My only complaint is that I think the back ( main dining room) is too dark and narrow. We really couldn't even tell what was on our plate. up front, near bar and even in window wod be much more fun snd improve ambiance.

Had the octopus, maksura? (some sort of sashimi), chicken liver mousse and quail. All outstanding and unusually presented and with atypical combinations that made it special. The octopus on a bed of some sort of creamy grain, fish had melon in the sauce, liver mousse had apples and was served with the most delicious grilled bread. I can't remember what joined the quail but I would definitely order it again. Only negatives: Red wine served in a white wine glass. Back of restaurant is basically ugly. All the myriad of ingredients in the open kitchen were displayed in plastic deli containers. Ceramic bowls needed!

Unusual choices each one fabulous. So kind to our dining partner who had some special dietary needs. Chef prepared a special vegetarian plate that was interesting, beautiful to look at and super delicious. Black Bass and lasagna to die for. 4 different starters one better than the next. It is wonderful to find a restaurant the offers different combinations that work and taste wonderful. Love it!!!!

Charging $4 extra for an"up" drink without notice; $3 for bread and $18.00 for an octopus appetizer with only 2 small pieces of octopus is pretentious and only the beginning of this unpleasant dining experience. The worst was when the black bass entree came with a piece if lamb sausage in it even though the wait staff knew that we could not eat meat or poultry. The manager took the entree off our bill but belittled our disgust at having unknowingly ingested the sausage. He was rude and abusive even though the fault was theirs. We wanted to like this restaurant, but the way we were treated as customers was unconscionable. This was the worst dining experience in recent memory.

This was our fourth time to Petruce. Each meal has just been outstanding. The food was delicious and the menu structure of small to large plates let us share an array of dishes- so many wonderful combinations and tastes! Highlights of the meal: the steak tartare was wonderful, so was the octopus and the carrots! The drink menu has some interesting as well as delicious cocktails and the wine and beer selections are outstanding. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, our waiter gave great suggestions for both dinner and drinks. We look forward to many more meals here!

We read great things about Petruce and it totally lived up to expectations. We were seated promptly and as scheduled. All hosts and servers were very friendly and helpful. It reminded us a bit of Vernick. All the dishes were excellent. And the wine selection is versatile in both selection and price. The sommelier was especially helpful in helping us pick the right wine. When he determined it was not up to snuff (before we tasted it), he chose a higher priced bottle and charged us the original wines' lower price. Absolutely nothing in the experience was not top flight. We look forward to returning.

Our party of four foodies dove into the Petruce menu with gusto and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious and inventive cuisine. However, we did feel that the small menu and meager wine inventory limited our choices. We hope that the continued success of Petruce will encourage the brothers to expand the menu and buy a few more cases of wine. Service was prompt and friendly unlike other reviews. Loud rock music, however, competed with normal conversation and marred an otherwise delightful evening.

It was hard to choose from among all the interesting choices. Two of us shared two small dishes and two medium dishes and we each had our own dessert Each dish had a variety of interesting ingredients. The octopus with conge was my favorite. We sat in the back. The noise level in the front was very high.

What a wonderful experience! Great location for theater goers and the bar opens early to accommodate before dinner! These brothers do it right! Simple food prepared well and then they add the sauces which take the entire plate to a whole different level and still there is one more surprise! There is something crunchy added to every plate! Every bite was a WOW factor! We also had the opportunity to watch how the kitchen executes dishes - it was like a well tuned symphony! And Paul, our server, helped us navigate through the menu and work with the bartender to serve us some fabulous wines to pair with our selections! Ask because not everything is on the drink menu! Looking forward to bringing my theater group here!

Having recently been to Le Cherie and Tremont, we were excited to have another experience at that level. It seemed to fall short. Offering us complimentary still or sparking water was like telling us that tap water was free. Meal was solid but to us definitely not 3 bells. Food was good but we did not appreciate any wow factor. Well located for Forrest Theater. We liked the chicken live but Hiramasa needed some bread or some accompanyment. Three of our 5 dishes showed up literally 4 minutes apart requiring us to move things around table to find room. Pork shoulder had a very tasty summer bean cucumber salad but it did not blend with the pork. Black bass was very good and breakfast theme. Overall, it was good and solid..nothing special B+

We dined this week at Petruce before a theater performance. We had no trouble with timing, our server had asked about our plans, and we were finished in time for the curtain-raising. The menu is simple - the dishes are named for the main component. The choices are listed by plate size (think tapas) & are served when ready. The presentation is beautiful & only outshined by the flavor! The dishes are completely unique. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We love going to Petruce, especially because of Tim, the co-owner/somelier. He has an amazing palate, and we love to order several small plates and ask him to choose wines for us. With the chicken liver mousse he introduced us to the German Elbling varietal, a lovely Cava with the squash. An interesting, complex Bordeaux Merlot blend accompanied the duck, while a dry, complex Austrian Rose for the squid/chorizo plate. Finally, a tawny port with the chocolate torta dessert! We sat near the kitchen and were fascinated by the attention to detail in the preparation and delivery. Highly recommended!

My husband i dined at Petruce on Saturday night. We went early for a drink at the bar. Drinks were excellent. We were seated on time across from the ovens/hearth and all the cooking action. The menu is extremely creative and more importantly, the food is executed to perfection. Our service was excellent, attentive and helpful in suggesting how much to order. The concept is that the food comes out of the hearth, including the bread which is delicious. Dessert was unreal. We would definitely return.

Really enjoyed dinner at Petruce et al. The drinks list is not deep but it is broad, with an interesting mix of coctails, interesting wines, dry ciders, even sherry. You can do pretty much whatever you want with small plates, medium plates, entrees and entrees for sharing. We got the 20 Oz. dry aged beef for two and were not disappointed. Many interesting choices to pick from across the board. Can't wait to go back!

The food was good and the restaurant is attractive and comfortable. And usually those positive factors would suggest we'd be back. Usually, even if the other factors like service aren't stellar we would overlook it if the food was really good but in this instance our server was so condescending and unhelpful that it ruined what should have been a very nice dinner. He was so uncommunicative that we ended up asking the sommelier questions about the menu.

Innovative food prepared with care and ingenuity, presented with the right amount attention. Oddly, the room is as dark as a basement, my table was a single table at a 2 seat banquette-it felt like the rest of the table was amputated-a canyon between tables. Like Siberia or solitary confinement. The menu was overdetermined in presentation-the minimalism reeks of pretension and insecurity, but the food was over the top delicious. The confidence of the food was matched by a smart reasoned wine list. A 2012 Barbera D'Asti. Young Nebbiolo can be dodgy - not this one. Right price too. The website menu did not correspond to the evening's menu. Drag because I had chosen my entree and matched it to wine on the site-neither of which were available.

I found this gem looking for a place to eat prior to attending a play at the Forrest Theater. The menu is very eclectic and innovative. Plate sharing is encouraged, and allowed my wife and me to try 4 dishes (2 small, 1 medium and 1 large), which was ample food. The small plates consisted of the chicken liver and the sweet potato. Both were excellent. My only suggestion to the restaurant is to serve the liver (which is like a terrine of pate) with the hearty sourdough, not the brioche. The octopus was the next course to come out. It is unlike anything I have ever tasted. The octopus was so tender. The pork shoulder was the final dish, and the wood-fired cooking just rendered the meat so tender and flavorful. Can't wait to go back!

We ate here before a show at the Forrest Theater, a great location right across the street. We told our server that we had some time restrictions, they were more than accommodating . Our food came out promptly, and was delicious . The small plates were the best. The cucumber and melon was one of the most flavorful things I've tasted in a long time! The beef tartare and chicken liver, outstanding! The entrees we had were, lasagna ( over cooked and dry), summer squash ( nothing special) ,yellowfin tuna ( just okay), chicken with onion grits was very good!

The buzz drew us the restaurant. We tried several of the recommended dishes--both the cucumber and melon and sweet potato first course, lasagna second course, chicken and grits third course, and peanut butter cheesecake for dessert. I understand the concept of the restaurant is to put flavors together you may not expect, but the result should be dishes that blow you away and are not lackluster. The melon and cucumber dish was okay but didn't really wow our table. Definitely wouldn't order it again. The sweet potato had great flavors but the consistency was mushy and needed a crunchy texture to add to the palette. The lasagna was a good concept but needed meat and not to be burned. Chicken was okay and cheesecake was just sad.
