  • "I took a friend there for a lunch/brunch for her birthday. It is so rare to have a beautiful elegant dining experience rom beginning to finish. Everything is consistent from the decor, to the menu, the wine list, the service and the atmosphere. You can have your space and dine in silence (no unnecessary music to create a fake ambiance, people who know how to behave and respect their neighbors) We took the restaurant tasting menu and it was totally worth it ! I think it is a perfect place for a special occasion and for people like us who both enjoy a fine dining experience and the art of conversation."

  • "A grand luxe restaurant near Carnegie Hall. Famous for caviar and smoked fish. Excellent dover sole and many other fish and meat items. Tables spaced adequately and good for conversation. Elegant but not stuffy--well, sort of but in a good way."

  • "Delicious food and caviar perfection. Not as expensive as one might think! Enjoy"

  • "This gorgeous 19th century mansion houses a restaurant that is a nyc landmark. And, how lovely to discover that the food lives up to its tradition. For the people who want a light meal have the petrossian special taster plate as a main course and the mixed green salad with pistachios and berries as a first. That combo plus the marvelous French rolls will be enough . And for those who want a full meal the filet is terrific - rich and plenty. The foi gras is sublime and the caviar of course is all it ought to be. The service is respectful and inobtrusive. The ambience was quiet and elegant. One feels as though the city is far away even though one is basically in the theatre district."

  • "Our group of five has dined here before several concert at Carnegie Hall this year. We shall keep coming back because the atmosphere is conducive to conversation, the food is delicious, and the service and timing of service is very good."

  • "Their caviar was excellent, very good offer included in the pre-fixed menu!! I learned the 'proper' way of eating caviar from the waiter. He even washed the small container of caviar for me to bring home. I would like to dine at this restaurant again next time I visit New York."

  • "I have been passing Petrossian on my way home for many years now and always wanted to eat there. Restaurant week was the perfect opportunity and I'm very please with the outcome. The food and service were very good! Nice selectipn of wines. We had the caviar appetizer which cost extra but was well worth it. For main course we had Beef short rib and Char, both very good. This one is definitely a keeper!"

  • "I have dined here 10+ times. The food was good, as always, but the service wasn't. I had made a reservation for a party of 6 and needed to increase it, twice, because more guests could join us for a special event. By phone, the hostess was rude to me and later very rude to my fiance. Apparently, we were inconveniencing her by choosing to dine at Petrossian, which is usally empty. Once we arrived, the waiters (not the maitre d') were rude to our guests. This had never bothered me before (I think the snarkiness is quite funny when the manager of the boutique doesn't realize sturgeon is a family of fish and tries to correct me), but it is what it is. The grand-daughter of Petrossian is very kind and gracious. I wish the staff were as warm."

  • "Chose this restaurant for Restaurant Week and its menu. Outstanding food and service. Would highly recommend."

  • "There's something about the ambience of Petrossian that makes dining there special. It's a combination of the architecture of the building it's in, the luxurious, warm decor of the room, and of course, the excellent ingredients (caviar, smoked salmon, foie gras) available to their chef in concocting the always delicious dishes on offer. There were generous portions for our RW lunch, with with at least three choices for each course. The service was efficient and attentive. Will always return---even without RW!"

  • "This place is great. Food and service is excellent. The three stars for service (still good, but not excellent) has to do with the the way they handled our coats and coat check and not at all the food. This is really a great place and I strongly recommend it."

  • "I've enjoyed Petrossian during Restaurant Week many times. This time the menu offering was exceptional. The hot brownie topped with crusted pecans was orgasmic!"

  • "I had always passed this place up, thinking it was just for caviar, which I like only occasionally and in very small amounts. Restaurant Week, and personal business nearby that day, were the stimuli to give it a shot. I was very pleasantly surprised. Perfect smoked salmon with dill, then crisp-skinned Arctic char,, with a artichoke-containing vegetable medley. I saved a little pinot grigio to wash down the sweet pineapple cake. Even the rolls were fantastic. Now definitely a good option on Carnegie Hall days. And blue jeans and a plaid shirt were not a problem."

  • "Coming inside the beautiful building, we had expected better service from this fancy restaurant. While there were more than 70% tables still available, our table of 5 got seated next to the kitchen door. New people were seated at the inside tables. Service was mediocre, and non attentive, with the annoyance of bumping into one of us coming in / out of the table. Especially with hot soups that they have to hand hold instead of using a tray. Food matched what was expected but did not wow us to want to come back or to pay their full price for."

  • "Walking by its impressive doors,I was always owed by the possibility of dining there. Restaurant week provided the opportunity to enjoy a very elegant, dignified and delicious lunch with a friend. The staff was gracious and welcoming; the food was delicious and the service, excellent!"

  • "I used to rate Petrossian outstanding, but the grumpy hostess who took our coats at the door and the less attentive waiters than I remember made the experience a little less special this time. Granted, it was late, we were one of 2 tables left and we were taking our time, but I couldn't help noticing they were dying for us to leave - not what you want from a $320 dinner for two. It's an intimate beautiful room that says "old New York" and I would still recommend it for an elegant champagne and caviar brunch treat, but I'll never go again for dinner."

  • "Our first experience ever, we tried Petrossian during restaurant week and were very happy we did. The restaurant is lovely,, the food is excellent, the service was attentive, professional yet welcoming and pleasant. Since it was a late after-the-theatre dinner, we cannot comment on the bar scene or lunch/brunch but would have no hesitancy in going anytime."

  • "A major disappointment. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Atmosphere was from the 1950's. Service was acceptable, but nothing special."

  • "We went during the restaurant week. As many other reviewers said before, food was good. Service was very week, we felt we are in Europe of 10 years ago, where the waiters are proud to ignore those annoying tourists. Another detail worth mentioning is that the restaurant week menu was not really what we were offered in the restaurant. The place chose to follow their regular pre-fix menu which had supplement charges. So, go at your own risk and expect surprises on your bill."

  • "I went there during the NYC Restaurant Week. Prefixe was a good deal- you get appetizer, main dish and dessert for $38, which is usually $48. We were seated at a tiny table located right next to the entrance door. A wind kept coming in, and it was a cold day. The service was terrible as well. Even before we put down silverware, a waiter came and pick up the plates. Moreover, while we were having dessert, waiters were rearranging the tables right next to us. They set up a big table, and it was obvious that we need to leave in order to finish the setting. Then waiters were standing by the table staring at us. So we left as soon as we could- would never go back. Oh, food!? It was okay."

  • "I went there with my friends on Sunday night during the restaurant weekend. Environment is very good, service is good, only the dessert, pineapple cake was a little bit disappointed me, brownie is good."

  • "The worst upscale restaurant I've been to in NYC. Staff scrambled around trying to serve the same tables; 5 waiters served us. After we were shown to our 2nd table (the first had not been cleared), one came over at least 5 mins later and said "did you get menus yet?". 90% of my entrée was raw. My partner opted for the brownie for dessert because it did not list coconut as an accompaniment - he is allergic. When it arrived it was coated in coconut. The waiter of the moment suggested he order the 2nd dessert, which i pointed out had coconut listed in the menu. He got dessert 10 minutes later after i'd finished mine. Caviar is the specialty but waiters didn't know what 1oz of it looked like. Go to The Russian Tea Room instead."

  • "I went for restaurant week. I loved the cauliflower soup with truffle oil and smoked salmon. Everything else on the menu was average, not bad but nothing special."

  • "Both my companion's arctic char and my roasted sturgeon were very good. The small serving of fettuccine with my fish was extraordinarily good, with a creamy sauce of fresh tomatoes and greens. Her smoked salmon was some of the best ever. High priced, but worth the splurge."

  • "Given the reviews, we expected much more. Service was non-attentive. Glassware was dirty. Food was mediocre. Beautiful decor and quiet atmosphere big pluses."

  • "This place has wonderful menu, the fish that I ordered came out perfectly, but I was so impressed with their saute shrimp and mixed green salad, I always thought salad is salad, and so many restaurants I've been to, this salad was THE only one I'm still thinking about it."

  • "We have been coming here for the past several years, before concerts at Carnegie Hall. The food has always been good and the atmosphere conducive to conversation. Based on two visits in 2014, the food has improved from good to outstanding. The prix-fixe pre-theater menu is a good value."

  • "Dinner at Petrossian is a special experience. Our recent Valenitne's Day dinner there was memorable. The food was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. A special is sturgeon which is not a fish we see often on menus although it is know for caviar. It was prepared with a light sauce. The scallops with risotto were tender and delicious. The chocolate cake was lovely, but we felt could have used vanilla ice cream rather than chocolate to cut the sweetness. Overall, it was a meal we will remember and talk about."
