Diner Reviews
  • "Seated quickly for lunch, from there service went down hill. Will say the food was very good but had to wait quite awhile to get it. One dessert was brought out wrong and by the time the correct one was brought out you could have baked it from scratch."

  • "The food was amazing.. from the start with the Tomato fused with pineapple soup to main coarse Seared Sturgeon with a hazelnut potato puree, pickled pear, baby fennel and topped with a caviar beurre blanc sauce all paired with a Chateau de Tracy.. and closed the night with Carrot Cream Cheese Cake.. My dinner companion loved her Grilled Spanish Mackerel with sushi rice, enoki mushrooms, green onions, spinach, carrots in a bonito lime broth..."

  • "As a professional chef, here's my experience one recent lunch. The dining room has a classic old school charm with Art Deco cues albeit showing its age a bit. The food was generally very good and well executed. Smoked salmon was top notch, both duck & makerel main courses were tasty. The desserts were uninspiring and not thoughtfully presented with the exception of the lovely carrot sorbet. Areas of concern (or opportunities for improvement): the bread does not come warm, servers just drop your food off without explaining the dish, hostess wears sneakers. Really? In the end Petrossian is dangerously flirting with mediocrity in a city with tons of top shelf competition. Am I glad I went? Yes. Would I go back? Why should I?"

  • "The menu at Petrossian was their Prix Fix menu at the RW price. The food could not have been more delicious."

  • "The restaurant decor is modern, but with an old world feel. Sparse, white linened tables. Service was attentive without being overwhelming. The food is not bad for restaurant week, with heavy hitters in the seafood space. However, one look at the menu will highlight the focus of the restaurant: caviar. I would not strongly recommend this restaurant unless someone has a very strong interest in ordering caviar and related dishes. The rest of the menu is good, but not worth the destination nor the price point. But I believe worshippers of the fish roe will find more than I did here."

  • "Quality of food served did not meet our expectations. Would not recommend it."

  • "A little pretentious & really expensive, but a great special occasion restaurant. Had the caviar appetizer & eggs Benedict with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon. Lovely wife started with pan pardu w/ froie gra followed by scrambled eggs with truffles. Never knew scrambled eggs could be so sublime. Service only so-so. Actually got the order wrong, initially, but kitchen turned out corrected dish pretty quickly."

  • "We went to Petrossian for Sunday lunch between morning & afternoon visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Great food, perfect sparkling wine, & attentive service. Our lunch nearly matched the beauty of the Met. Elton & Jefferson took very good care of my family. Thanks!"

  • "High quality food Nice staff Caviar options really make the difference with other brunch places"

  • "unfortunately it was not what I expected, service was not up to standards, the decoration is old and out of style, I witnessed two staff, one from the kitchen and one from the floor leaving for the night and saying good night to the personnel on the floor at 9:00PM. The restaurant was more than half empty on a Friday nigh at 9PM, the clothes the waitresses and waiters are wearing are from the 80's, finger prints all over the rim of the dishes. We ordered from the regular menu instead of the uninspiring "special menu" spent $280 for two on a very disappointing evening."

  • "My only issue with the dinner was that, as a vegetarian, there was no entree option in the resraturant week menu. I explained the case and asked for help and the servers were dismissive, perhaps even judgmental. They came back and said the chef was going to prepare a risotto. I asked: what kind? They said: I don't know, a vegetable risotto. I asked: with mushrooms? They were not sure, so I asked if the chef could please prepare a mushroom risotto for me, that would be great. It was delicious, but it took a lot of back-and-forth and a very uncomfortable situation, to the point that we were considering leaving."

  • "Restaurant week lunch was superb - service was fine, attentive but not rushed - wonderful appetizer, duck breast (so many tastes on one plate) and carrot cheese cake w sorbet - and you know you are getting a deal, because it is the same lunch menu at the restaurant week price - really enjoyable -"

  • "Wanted to see the interior of the Alwyn Court Building which I have passed by many times and to view the Erte mirrors, so I took the opportunity of the Restaurant Week menu. It was better than average fare, but did not create the "come back" feeling in me."

  • "My girlfriend had wanted to go here for a long time. I decided to finally take her here for her birthday, and we both had a great time. Every second was bliss - great service, great food, great everything. Her sturgeon was super tasty, my filet was one of the best I've ever had, and the creme brulee was spectacular. We'll certainly be going back!"

  • "We picked from the brunch menu. All selections were very good and right sized, not typically American over sized, so do not let you refrain from the brunch menu with 3 dishes. Very good service and high attention!"

  • "For its niche, Petrossian can't be beat. It is classic NY, not the trendy foam-laden new cuisine. Ambience and service and elegant, not disruptive. I had the sturgeon with a caviar sauce that couldn't be found anywhere else. But the menu has declined from more interesting items in the prix fixe of years past. A brownie for dessert? Not the Petrossian that would have offered Charlotte Russe! Or any dessert from the fabulous cafe/bakery next door. Still, we enjoyed our special occasion dinner on a rainy weeknight."

  • "Probably one of the quietest restaurants in all of New York and its open late. Wonderful fish and the best smoked salmon in the city. Very good wine list; heavy on champagne."

  • "We had a wonderful lunch here, the food is delicious and the staff are very professional. Many options for caviar and the presentation is beautiful. Be sure to ask for the Vodka list, they have many and the frozen shots were a very nice accompaniment to our meal. Beet borscht was delicious as were the accompanying pierogies!"

  • "Petrossian remains one of New York's quintessential spots. It is elegant, quiet has great service and really you go here for the caviar, some vodka, champagne or a nice whiter burgundy and then you are always surprised at how good the rest of the meal is. It's an indulgence but once in a while with that special person it is really the place to be."

  • "This has always been a place we remember as being special. It was perfect to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. The gilled frois gras was superb ... and of course caviar is a must at Petrossian ... the filet mignon with stilton melted in my mouth. The only criticism is that the very attentive staff rushed the service. They should know better. Petrossian is a place where one wants to linger and savor."

  • "We were two couples, both celebrating our anniversaries. The food was wonderful, the restaurant is very, very beautiful art deco and very romantic. The Maitre 'D was wonderful and put us in a very quiet table in the back. He noticed that we were toasting our anniversaries and gave us two beautiful complimentary desserts with candles. Very attentive service, but not overbearing. The food was fantastic and special. All in all a wonderful evening. I highly recommend it."

  • "This is our go-to restaurant whenever we want an outstanding dining experience at a reasonable price. It compares favorably with many others at double the cost."

  • "This was a special occasion that justified the expense. We increased our reservation from 2 to 4 when friends joined us. Petrossian is only a 0.4 mile from the Midtown Hilton--an easy walk. Our table was ready and the service excellent. Considering the quality of the food and service, the pricing is reasonable. When I serve caviar at home, I make my own blini similar to those served at The Firebird. Pretrossian serves a single thick blin. It was delicious, but different. My colleague asked for extra ice cream on his brownie, but we got the same tiny scoop. It was good, but that heavy chocolate could stand a bit more vanilla contrast. Overall, it was a delightful birthday celebration with my wife and good friends."

  • "We had a wonderful brunch here! The food was excellent; everyone was satisfied: my picky 16 yr old who loved the blueberry pancake appetizer and steak entree, and me, I am gluten free and had a wide variety of choices. My son adored his caviar omelette (certainly not your "typical" brunch fare) very good Eggs Benedict w/ perfectly crisped bacon. Service was attentive but not intrusive, and the courses were timed in a leisurely way so we never felt rushed. Some busy brunch places are like mills and you feel like you are jammed in and then rushed in and out. I can't think of a better way to enjoy a relaxed and delicious brunch. And do not be fooled by the fancy name or decor: nothing over the top about this brunch, including the price!"

  • "This is a must go restaurant for NYC visitors who love foods and willing to spend some money to enjoy foods. The caviar tasting item for lunch is worth trying. The smiling waitress is friendly and attentive. Quiet and relax atmosphere. "

  • "Petrossian welcomes you to a respite from the crush of NYC humanity just outside the articulated glass door. A team of servers are attentive and efficient without being intrusive. Brunch was a reasonable prix fixe. Appetizers were caviar with creme fraiche on a blini and duck confit truffle risotto (among the most amazing dishes I've experienced). Entrees were smoked salmon Benedict and skirt steak with potato and a shirred egg. Desserts were a chocolate mousse cake with coconut sorbet and a sorbet trio. Top that all off with a nice Prosecco and you have a delightful, refined Petrossian brunch experience."
