A word from Petits Plats
Petits Plats is a very pretty French bistro located in a town house directly across from the Woodley Park metro stop, the Marriott Wardman and Omni Shoreham Hotels. Step inside and you will find affordable delicious food in a very romantic atmosphere. On cold days, dining next to one of the 4 wood burning fireplaces is a nice touch. Summer time, enjoy the great view sitting outside in our private patio: watching the passersby on busy Connecticut avenue is a major amusement!Continued

  • "It is rare for my entire family to be satisfied by their meals. From the bread to the escargot to the scallops, everything was delicious. I definitely recommend ordering seafood. The fish and seafood specials came with great sauces and we could not stop dipping the bread in everything. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I went to Petit Plats for lunch in the middle of week. Got a nice seat at the window. I started with the foie gras with cherry jam, which was really lovely. For the entree, I had the special, which was trout with asparagus and mushrooms with potatoes and ham. Really buttery and flavorful. I also got the bread pudding, which I probably didn't need, since I was pretty full already, but I love bread pudding so much. The waitstaff is very pleasant and professional. I would definitely go back."

  • "I brought my mother to visit Washington. We were staying nearby and we just didn't want the usual hotel type food. I had heard of this place and thought I would give it a try. From the minute we walked up the stairs to the entrance we were greeted and treated with such respect and consideration. It was a bit cool for us to eat outside so we opted for inside. The room we ate in (3 nights of the trip!) was a cozy little space with great ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food was just simply fantastic! Over the 3 dinners we had mussels, duck confit, grilled branzino, salmon, foie gras, a great salad with beets and a wonderful onion soup. The wine that was recommended was spot on. I would highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "a very nice spot for a lunch date.. took a vacation day on a friday, hence the bottle of burgundy (BEAUNES, 1ER CRU "LES GREVES, DOMAINE MAILLARD '08) that i will be scouring wine shop shelves for.. the snails were good for the DC area, as was the margerita pizza.. very cozy, so you have to make an effort not to listen to nearby diners...but no complaints.. had a fire going which definitely added to the ambiance.. will go back for another special-occasion-skip-work lunch.."

  • "I was in town for a conference, and one of my colleagues suggested Petit Plats. I had a frisée salad to start with foie gras and duck confit. Perfect. I followed that with a fruites de mer and risotto main. Excellent. A properly prepared Ricard made me feel I was in an authentic French place. Nice selection of wines. Strongly recommend."

  • "Food very good, service very poor. So neglected by our waiter that diners at the next table commented & asked him why we were being ignored. We were seated & the table seated after us was waited on while no one came to our table for quite some time. We didn't even have menus. No one brought us bread until we asked several times and then no butter. Finally brought butter but they had taken the knife away with the salad plate. (yes just getting bread and butter after the salad) could not get waiter's attention so had to spread the butter with a fork. The service stayed pretty much that poor & rude the whole evening,capped off by cold coffee, not warm, cold. A meal this expensive should have way better service Not busy enough to excuse this"

  • "Very surprise by this restaurant, good food, good choice of wine... we were here for Valentine's night. The menu came with good choices, portions were a little bit smaller than I expected (I'm French, sorry!), but very tasty !!! The service was perfect, with a french touch... quiet and pleasant, just the way we like. I'll definitely come back to try their regular menu, wich sounds amazing for quality/prices !!! If you know french food, or if you want to try the french quality, it's the place to go!!"

  • "I read many reviews before making my reservation for V day with my girlfriend. I immediately experienced the hurried and slightly disorganized host. The table next to us was asking for bread for 10-15 minutes. The bread girl spoke zero English and/or simply ignored our request for bread. Our waiter was not sure, at times, which course we were on. These things don't really bother me but I really noticed it because other reviewers talked about poor service too. The food was excellent though and that's why I made my reservation in spite of the negative comments about service. I don't feel that my experience was worthy of the $200 price tag for two I'd rather go to Bistro Du Coin which is consistently excellent in food quality AND service.."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our Valentine's Day there and had the special prix fixe menu with wine for $79.- pp. We are familiar with typically small portions in a French restaurant, however, these portions for both the appetizers and main courses were truly "tiny". The glass of wine had less than an inch of wine in the bottom, much less than the typical 5 oz. you see everywhere. The food overall was tasty, although not a good value at all."

Nevertheless, Petits Plats managed their large crowd, the food was quite good and the experience was very enjoyable.   • "This was my first time to dine at Petits Plats. It's an understated place with excellent french food (as the name implies). There were five of us and everyone enjoyed the food. It was traditional french and well prepared. The service was very good too. The only suggestion that I can make is that the ambiance could be more attractive. It must be lovely during the day as there are many windows and lots of natural light. We plan to go to Petits Plats again soon."

  • "We met friends for a quiet get-together at Petit Plats. I had trouble finding parking and one of the waiters guided me to a parking garage using my wife's cell phone. The level of service was superb! So was the food. The dining room had a real wood fire burning. The diner was outstanding with excellent food beautifully plated. We will definitely return, probably many times."

The food was very good and a good value, our group chose a variety of selections from the brunch menu. The brioche french toast is recommended. We would definitely come back again."

  • "We've enjoyed several brunches at Petit Plats in the last year since moving to Cleveland Park and have never been disappointed. I make a pretty mean Eggs Benedict myself, but I can't compete with Petit Plats'. The eggs are always perfect, the bread is delicious and a side salad, roasted potatoes and a tasty Bloody Mary round out the meal perfectly. We've also visited for dinner and it's always a treat. The servers are soft spoken and excellent and the ambiance is cozy and romantic in the evenings. I love the fireplace during the winter months as well."

  • "I set up a special group reservation for a company dinner event and the planning and customer service stage was fantastic. The space is quaint and cozy and truly gives you the feeling that you're in a little french bistro. However, the food was poorly presented and lacked flavor and creativity. The flavor of the food was average, nothing to rave about. The items were plated so simply that it looked like a 5 year old just put it on a plate and sent it out to the customer. I am disappointed in the quality of the food for the price. I will not be sending groups back to this restaurant again."

  • "i split lamb chops with my friend. they looked wonderful and the sides were excellent. i can only assume that the restaurant had a sub-par shipment of lamb chops. they were mostly fat, impossible to cut with a knife, and had very little meat."

  • "The restaurant is lovely. Tables are spaced well enough apart that you can converse. The menu was inviting and the food preparation was good. What was not good was the amount of fat on the rack of lamb. I and one of our guests, after trimming the fat off, were left with, perhaps, half the serving from the 3 chops. When the waiter finally came over towards the end of the meal and we showed him the huge amount of fat, there was no apology. We expected perhaps a comp dessert or some courtesy, but not an offer to bring another chop, adjust the bill, etc. Also, we had selected a specific 2009 Oregon wine. When the waiter brought it, it the wine was a 2011 - but he never told us. Luckily our husbands are sharp. Bad year-bad form."

We all ordered something different and each of us were very satisfied with our choice.
