A word from Petite Syrah
Petite Syrah's ever changing menu showcases seasonal Wine Country Cuisine. Chef Josh Silvers and Chef de Cuisine Ben Davies find their inspiration from Sonoma County's incredible selection of artisan producers and the vast array of fresh, organic produce available in California. An active Slow Food member, Josh consistently focuses on organic and sustainably farmed fruits and vegetables, calling Sonoma County a "Chef's playground". Josh's goal, he says, is to create deeply flavored soul-satisfying comfort food and take it to a higher level of sophistication. The restaurant offers traditional style dining, as well as both a 7-course and 9-Course tasting menu, created uniquely and "at the Chef's whim" for the table. A changing prix fixe menu is also available. The wine list offers over 200 selections (the majority being local) with approximately 25 offered by the glass.

The food was very good but would expect nothing less from the chef! They were not very busy and the service was lacking, hard to find our waiter in that small space if we needed him!

Perfect place to dine prior to attending shows at nearby theatre. Timely service and excellent presentation. The halibut entree was beautifully presented with perfectly prepared and seasoned vegetables on a bed of red lentils! My husband's skirt steak was tender and he loved it! Good wine list, especially the Ports.

My wife and I dine here on Sept. 5th for our anniversary while visiting "wine country". It was mid-week and their last seating (8:30pm) so we were literally the only people in there at that point. It was very quiet, obviously, but it was perfect for us. The service was great. The food was even better. I'd definitely go back if ever there again, which I hope to be! Cheers, Bill

The food is fabulous, the wine list is interesting and the service is friendly but professional -- what's not to like? Sadly, this restaurant will soon close in its present guise and re-emerge as (I'm told) a more casual, comfort-food oriented place. I'm sure that any place guided by Josh Silvers will be excellent, but I'll miss this version.

Food was very good. Portions were a bit small relative to the price. Horseradish sauce with the beets was yummy. We had a nice chardonnay from Landmark - very good. I'm looking forward to what they will do with the new place.

We selected the prix fixe meal and it was the best food we've ever had there. Perfectly prepared scallops, hanger steak, and extraordinarily creative salad. Rich mint/chocolate dessert creation was a perfect top off to an excellent meal. Even the dinner rolls, dense and with a taste of molasses, excel. The major weakness with this restaurant is that one of the seating areas is in a public thoroughfare outside of the main dining room which can lead to diners feeling like they are eating in 'Siberia', although the service is as attentive there as in the main dining room. Food seems to be getting better and better as we now read that the restaurant will be going through yet another metamorphosis this fall. Hope this is the right decis

Pasta carbonara was excellent! I loved that there was a delicate poached egg in the middle of the pasta and with a few tosses of the al dente pasta the dish was creamy and elegant. Such a simple presentation but so delicious. My friend and I had the crab cakes as a first course and that was excellent as well. The accompanying apple and shaved fennel salad was light and refreshing and the crab cakes lightly breaded and the crab was sweet. And overall excellent meal, I plan to return!

This restaurant is one of my favorites in the area. Menu is always creative and food is delicious. Service is friendly and efficient. We sat in the breezeway next to the main dining room and had a lovely breeze on a warm evening. Noise level was refreshingly low so we were able to enjoy pleasant conversation. All in all this was a very enjoyable evening.

    Dined on 7/13/2012
This was the first time here. With all the good restaurants its hard to come up with a reason to dine here, where most of the limited menu consisted of mediocre recipes. The bright spot; a good scallop appetizer. My partner had a very bland and totally forgettable halibut. I had the hanger steak. Since this is not a "prime" cut it needs work to be good. Mine consisted of about three pre-cut slices of beef that didn't taste like they even had been salted. Totally boring and barely edible. The s'more dessert was equally boring. The people were nice, the decor okay but nothing special. Plenty of better choices, even in Santa Rosa.

We had the 5 course tasting menu which was good and fun to discuss with our foursome. The waiter explained each course to us which included some unusual ingredients which made it interesting. The tables in the back, outside the main room, are quieter if you don't like noise. One of our favorite dishes was the scallop.

The old Syrah was a pleasure. from all view points. A couple of years ago, they changed to Petite Syrah, small plates place, which was very disapointing. Now thay changed back to a regular place but still they are not at the old level. Maybe financial constraints are in the game but.... The food, which was their "forte", was nothing to brag about. We were very disappointed.

While we have been diners at Jackson's, this was our first time at Petite Syrah. We were immediately welcomed and liked the cozy and elegant ambiance. Service was beautifully attentive and un-intrusive. Came in for the Foie Gras and couldn't resist the Thursday "Summer Abroad in Italy" prix fixe menu. From three tastes we chose the Los Carneros "Aries" Pinot Noir. The pork Osso Buco was a sumptuous feast of tender pig, risotto that was creamy with a satisfying tooth and a nice tease of marrow. Dessert was a slippery vanilla panna cotta and espresso. Perfect. Oh, and the Foie Gras with cherry, mache and balsamic? WOOF!

We had a great time at Petite Syrah! I'd heard they only offered small plates but the duck breast was entree sized and cooked perfectly with creamy polenta and cherries. The scallop with lemon verbena marmalade and beet salad with horseradish panna cotta were also unique and delicious. We had half glasses of several different wines as chosen by our server to pair with the dishes we ordered and they were all worked very well together. Already looking forward to our next visit.

For our fourth visit to this restaurant, we still find the food quite good, the service very lacking and slow to the point of rude, and the prices a little steep. Still, if you are there for a special occasion, the wait doesn't really matter. The chef still masters the mousse or similar creations and the beet salad is the best I've ever had anywhere. Nice to see hanger steak on the menu-- not offered enough for me. The duck was rather sweet and masked the beautiful texture and flavor of the bird. I liked the radishes with butter-- reminded me of days in France-- but the radishes were pedestrian.

We were very glad we stopped by here for dinner. Our meal was fresh and delicious. I love that there was an open air kitchen and you could see the chefs. The starter plates seemed just a bit large, but because they were so good we had to finish them. Service was great. Instead of bread, they brought us sweet potato chips were really yummy. We could have had two plates of those! Dinner was done really nicely. Presentation was great. We would go back and we would recommend this to friends.
