This is my go-to destination for sharing a lovely French meal with the most special people in my life...and they do not disappoint. I have had many great meals here; I usually focus on seafood entrees...however the cassoulet is to die for."

Having tried many restaurants looking for quality food, prepared by a real chef, with delicious taste and presentation, pleasant atmosphere, nice table setting and pleasant service, we found another in the burbs! We were seated before scheduled time! Appreciated the ambience and the clientele, fine food and serenity. Will return for sure....and highly recommend. My husband is a restauranteur and chef as well...it takes a great deal to satisfy him, and he was pleased. He had a perfectly seared and tender veal chop, I had the seafood special...so tasty and beautifully presented, and our daughter a pasta seafood dinner...with the pasta truly being made in house! All delicious...with nice imported wine and beer suggestions, too."

  • "Pates,bone marrow,french baguette,chaudree,etc,felt like home.Just one little detail:Iwould have preferred a more exciting choice of french cheeses for dessert like camembert instead of brie ,roquefort instead of emmenthal.I know you have to cater to the "afraid of any smells"american crowds but french cuisine is all about bouquet,fragrances ,aromas and smells.I have to say that I really enjoyed my visit(it was my son birthday).Our waitress was very friendly and prfofessional .Thank you for a delightful evening. We were in Portland for 2 days and wanted to eat well while we were here and Petite Jacqueline was the best out of a lot of good dining experiences in town. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was really outstanding. They just did simple things but did them really well. Roast bone marrow with toast for an appetiser was superb. For mains the steak frites was great- would have been perfect with a little jus or garlic butter or something, and the beef bourgiugnon was the best I have ever had. It was just so good, I can`t say enough about it. Desserts, too, were great though we were getting a little full by then!"

We discovered they were not the expected toasted bread chunks but nuggets of deliciousness, a great surprise, I'm glad they were not described as it does not sound appealing, just very yummy, don't be afraid! Our fish stew was so light and flavorful. Our dessert of flourless, gooey chocolate with a vanilla bean sauce was so warm and wonderful. We did not feel overfed at the end of this meal, just satisfied and happy. We enjoyed everything the toasty, warm french bread arrives at the table in a paper bag with herbed butter, perfect for a winter meal."

  • "This past Valentine's Day (2014) was the first visit to Petite Jacqueline for me and my wife. The restaurant featured a special 3-course fixed price menu for Valentine's Day. The food was very good, but the preparations were less adventurous than their standard menu. My wife had a braised short rib which was excellent. I had a french choudree which was good, but a bit bland. The portions were small, particularly for the prices. Overall, we had a really nice meal, but for the price we paid, Portland has better to offer. We'll try Petite Jacqueline again sometime to try their standard menu, but our first visit was not outstanding."

  • "My daughter picked this restaurant to celebrate her birthday. The restaurant is beautiful, although the tables a bit small. I was disappointed only in the amount of cheese you get when you order from the meat & cheese menu, a one ounce portion of a tasty Gruyere for $5 when I could get a half a pound at my local cheese monger. The Friday night dinner special of Duck served over a bed of homemade fresh sauerkraut was fantastic. The entrees are priced reasonably, $14 to $30. The creme brulee dessert was tasty and refreshing with a nice hint of vanilla notes. Waitress we had was extremely helpful with the menu, titled in French, and was very knowledgeable to help us make fantastic selections on our first visit."

Our meatatarian loved the gourmet burger - one of the best we have ever eaten; my husband had the pot au feu with generous piece of monkfish and delicious veggies in a saffron infused broth. The gnocchi was wonderful too - very buttery with al dente winter vegetables. It was a perfect Sat lunch with our family."

  • "Went for New Year's Day brunch/lunch. Three of us had egg brunch-y items; one had steak frites; I had "chef's choice" fromage & charcuterie plate. All delicius and, except for soggy frites, well-cooked. Service was cheerful but a bit sketchy - perhaps servers were still recuperating from New Year's Eve and it was tricky for them to avoid stepping on baby sleeping in carrier on floor at next table. We had one screwed-up main course, random coffee/tea delivery, mistake on bill (discovered after we left). My main complaint was noise - high ceilings, hard surfaces, and close tables made conversation difficult. I'd go again but without an elderly guest and maybe at an off-hour to avoid noise and have better service."

  • "My fiancee and I made plans for dinner New Years day eve. What started out as dinner for 2, turned into our inviting our au pair to join us. After a quick call to inform them that we would like to add a third to our reservation, we were met with a 'no problem. see you soon'. Our meals were wonderful, the simple green salad with champaign vinegarette continue to bring me back again and again, and the waitstaff very friendly and appear genuinely happy to be there. The beef bourguignon never fails to delight my man, and our guest and I enjoyed the steak frites and gray sole. Will continue to visit this establishment so long as they continue to 'do what they do best!'"

  • "Wonderful food. Had frittes with fantastic sauce and great mushrooms...I enjoyed the whole meal. Our server was helpful and nice. The portions were great; not too big, but filing enough. When we arrived, they put us by a window. It was a really cold night and I requested another table. They moved us with no trouble and pleasantly. Nice atmosphere and size."
