I have been to PRB twice, and had excellent food the first time. This time, I ordered a lamb dish that was the most expensive thing on the menu, and it was at best mediocre. I should have sent it back, but I was having a nice time and didn't want the hassle. My fiance's dish was excellent, the wine and everything else was great.

The overall dining was absolutely perfect but my waiter made the night even better when out of no where!! he brought the dessert (birthday themed) I requested when I reserved online, even I didn't expect it never mind my spouse. He absolutely loved it and it made both our nights! It was definitely a perfect first time french dining experience. I'd go again and recommend it!

Three of us went to Petit Robert Bistro for a relaxing dinner and we were very pleased with our choice. Two of us had steak and the meat was tasty and prepared exactly as ordered. The third entrée was scallops and they were also perfectly prepared. The wait staff were attentive and pleasant. We'll be back!

Food was fair...I expected more from a place founded by such a notable local chef. The bread was quite good. My guests deeply enjoyed the escargots and the smoked salmon appitizer. However, my coq au vin still tasted of wine leading me to believe someone had rushed the process and the other entres has similar off balance elements...desserts were overkill: too big, too frozen, too sugary.

Excellent service from Nicole, an American waitperson who spoke fluent French, was attentive to our requests, and kindly cognissant of our anniversary. We had the pan-seared foie gras and the moules mairinieres as hors d'oeuvres and the coquilles Saint Jacques and Steak Frites as plats principaux: all excellent. For dessert; the chocolate Tour Eiffel and the rhubarb-bread pudding with ice cream. Both very good. The bistro reminded us of bistros in Paris. We shall return!

Charming place, warm and inviting and truly French. Notable French menue items such as sweetbreads not seen many places outside of Paris. Outstanding apps and desserts too. So helpful in accomodating our guests desire to change my original request of a table. Really impressive service. First floor is charming living room of old brownstone, downstairs cozy brick with dinner bar watching the pastry chef. Looking forward to a return. There are three of these and this location is my favorite on Commonwealth Ave in Kenmore Sq.

Petit Robert Bistro has been very good in the past, although the Kenmore Sq store is rather loud. The house pinot noir was too acidic, and the service was lethargic. The flavorful tilapia was over cooked. The chicken was delicious and worth a return visit. The apple tart was too sweet, but one guest liked it. Raves for the chocolate mousse. I would return but hope they would be kinder to the fish. The Caesar salad was a bowl of lettuce with some croutons and sauce, but no anchovies so it was not a Caesar salad. It is like having a vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and leaving out the sauce. The pates were delicious and the bread was an honest French loaf enough crust to crumb ratio to be worth eating.

We received our entrees, then our wine (after asking a few times), then (after we were nearly done eating) bread and butter. I'm pretty sure that's not quite how it's supposed to work. On the plus side, the food was very good and reasonably priced, and the wait staff was friendly.

We've denied here many times. Petit Robert doesn't swing for the fences, but it delivers solid value. Having been fortunate to have visited true French bistros, I can say that this is as authentic as it gets in the States. My wife's ratatouille had been patiently cooked for perhaps days, resulting in a perfect bite. My pork chop had a nice grilled char on the outside and was moist and flavorful within. Our complaint: their liquor license requires that they sell watered down drinks at the Kenmore location. But the wine selection has some reasonably priced choices.

A boundary birthday for my wife. The restaurant was adept at a special touch for her dessert. The staff is pleasant and attentive. The restaurant is easy to take for granted. It has been at that site for many years now, right in the center of student life at Kenmore, never a propitious environment for a restaurant with ambition. With one or two notable exceptions it is surrounded by low collegiate eateries. But for very reasonable prices it turns our reliable, tasty fare based on the fundamentals of regional French cuisine. A good home cook can probably make all of the dishes on the menu, but for value here, why bother?

We were able to eat outside, which was fantastic and a rarity in Boston. We started with the oysters, which were texturally very pleasing but large in size and somewhat fish-y in taste. We followed with the tomate goat cheese salad, which was delicious. The beef bourginon was big enough to share and in classic preparation, but the vegetables were simple and a bit plain. Wine pairings were adequate. Service was friendly and accommodating. Overall we would go back, but wouldn't necessarily recommend for a special night out.

The atmosphere feels like a French bistro and is quite charming. The food was Classic French bistro dishes done fairly well. The problem was there kept being little gaps in the service. They brought bread but no bread plates, tea but no sugar, dessert but no spoons. And we waited probably 20 minutes from ordering to receiving appetizers, and another 20 minutes after dessert to get our check. They did apologize for the wait times and told us there was a big party downstairs that was monopolizing the kitchen. Overall, it was ok, but not great.

This was such a great little find for brunch on a Saturday! Surprisingly, it was not too busy. The food and drinks were exquisite - mimosoas, fried Eggs Benedict, and coffee with real cream - and atmosphere perfect. With the view of the Eiffel Tower, French music softly playing in the background, and the accent of our real French waiter, I was transported to the streets of Paris! When the waiter found out it was my mother's birthday he brought out a decadent chocolate cake and a handmade chocolate Eiffel Tower!

On a quiet Sunday night, a French style bistro is just the place to feel cared for but comfortably at home at the same time. Green and prosciutto melon salads were excellent - the bread is not authentic French and should be avoided until the change suppliers. The ribeye was great (sent back for another few minutes to reach med. rare) and pork chop was tasty but dry. Sauces and spicing a specialty. Great selection of wines by the glass. Service excellent.

I visit one of the branches of Petit Robert 4-5 times a year, and mostly the Kenmore branch. It's almost a tradition in my family before Red Sox games; the gates at Fenway are less than ten minutes away even in pre-game crowds. The food is, frankly, good but not great. Nothing that would cause shame to a Parisian bistro-owner, but nothing that would bring pride, either. It's competent, consistent old-fashioned French cuisine. The service is almost always better than OK, the wine list is solid, and (as noted) you can't beat the location on a game night.

The menu was eclectic. The wine I selected was strong, a bit stronger than I expected. The Oysters were fresh and not too salty. The entree was where I was blown away. Scallops seared to perfection. Spinach seasoned beautifully. A harmonious dish in all. I was pleasantly surprised by the plethora of flavors. The sorbets were the the cherry on top, with an almond 'cookie' that brought all the sorbet flavors together nicely. All in all the perfect meal.

Hy husband and I have dined at Petite Robert before and always thought that the food was very well prepared and well flavored. However, our last experience was nothing like our previous. My husband ordered fish which was overly salted and my skirt steak was tough, chewy and flavorless. We left disappointed. If this is the new standard at this establishment, then I have to conclude that the quality is not worth the price -- better, similarly priced establishment can be found very near by.
