Diner Reviews
  • "Had a lovely meal and evening. The duck was a winner. The pork chop and the salmon also quickly disappeared from plates. Good food, good wine, good company. What could be better ????"

  • "Dropped off the kids at a friends house and thoroughly enjoyed a nice night out! Would highly recommend. From the host, to the wait staff, to the manager, everybody was very attentive and friendly. Food was fabulous. I had the pork chops and wife had the scallops. Both great. Started off with foie gras (?) and lobster bisque. Delish! Would go again in a heartbeat."

  • "we met friends on a Friday night and enjoyed a very pleasant meal, interesting cocktails, and excellent service. We'll be back."

  • "We had a wonderful time. I had wanted to go here for a long time and it was worth the wait! The waitstaff was authentic French and the food was scrumptious. I went with my 22 old son and even he thought it was a great experience. I would recommend this to adult audiences any night of the week!"

  • "We love this restaurant for brunch with the kids and I have even taken my high school students there too with my French club. The staff is wonderful and the food reliably good and reasonably price. Sadly, there was no sorbet last time we were there. I always look forward to the treats there and to the sorbets in particular."

  • "It is such a treat to dine here. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the most pleasant staff. I'll start w/ the food...excellent! My husband & I shared 1/2 doz oysters, followed by escargots (in parsley & garlic butter). The warm bread given to each table was perfect complement to the escargots. For entrees, hubby ordered the special and I had the most wonderful skirt steak ever. It was meatier in texture than any skirt steaks I've ever had, marinated to perfection, and so tender. It was simply the best! We had a bottle of Chateau Le Barry...oh it was perfect w/ my steak. Now the service, most excellent! Our waiter was professional, friendly, & knowledgeable. What stood out the most was Jay, the owner. He really cares for his guests."

  • "A change of ownership was needed and after some early kinks have been worked out & I can safely recommend this suburban spot in Needham. Living 2 towns away this is my closest French option so I want this place to succeed and with the attentive owner watching things I am sure it will. Frankly, nothing was spectacular, but nothing was off either: steak n frittes was a very good portion and tasty. The duck also was well made. The vegetarian option was lacking but a nice try. The appetizer at $16.00, 2 very small sausages over ratatouille, was small. The room is narrow but nicely appointed, the staff very friendly and accommodating. A solid neighborhood joint; with a lively crowd at the small bar...al fresco option as well. Prices are fair."

  • "Met a friend for Sunday brunch, first time at Petit Robert Bistro, and was delighted. It was a lovely day so we sat outside. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, helped fix out uneven table. Water and set ups provided promptly with menus and specials. I ordered the poached eggs frisee which was delicious, perfect poached encrusted in panko. My friend had eggs benedict, with a substitution of bacon, and it also was beautifully presented with two little envelope shaped poached eggs. Delicious French bread and butter was also a yummy addition. My latte was also good. It was relaxed and even though there were families and some babies (and even a dog), there was not excess fuss or noise. I hope to go back again."

  • "As soon as we arrived and had settled into our seats, I felt as if we'd been transported unexpectedly to a restaurant in Paris! Good wine selections, and an interesting assortment of cocktails. Lots of classic entrées on the menu. And the magret de canard (duck breast) and coquilles (scallops) were perfectly prepared. We look forward to a return visit aussitôt que possible!"

  • "This is the restaurant where I take my children whenever we have something to celebrate - a promotion, a birthday, graduation, or special announcement - I have never been disappointed."

  • "This is a lovely locale to meet for lunch (dinner is great, too) - it's so lovely to be transported to a French bistro in the midst of Needham! Keep up the terrific work - all around great place!"

  • "Loved the food from appetizers to dessert! Very flavorful and perfect portions. The service was excellent and the ambiance was cozy, quiet enough to be able to have an easy conversation at our table (which was really important to us) even on a weekend night. We did not sit outside, but it looked just as nice. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We celebrated my BD with the family. It was a Tuesday night, so the restaurant was almost empty. I was surprised, because it seemed to be crowded every day. It was a little bit cold inside, but we preferred to sit on the sofa. I ordered Cape oysters and foie gras. The foie gras was excellent. Wine cart has a lot of French wines. We had a great time there. My little daughter was happy. Forgot to mention: baguette was very delicious :)"

  • "My wife and I dined at Petit Robert on 6/2. It was an enjoyable evening out. The food and service were excellent, just as it has been the last few times we've been there. Petit Robert is a Needham gem - good food, friendly staff and a comfortable environment. We will be going back soon hopefully to dine out on the patio. If you're looking for a French bistro in western burbs, I highly recommend you give Petit Robert a try."

  • "Our recent visit to Petit Robert for dinner was rewarded with the excellent quality and presentation that we have come to expect from this neighborhood gem. The menu is punctuated with varying specials. The hake or halibut with couscous was outstanding. Delicious "standards" include the braised short ribs and the salmon. Highly recommended."

  • "We very much enjoyed our first dinner at the Needham branch of the Petit Robert Bistro. We have been to the one in Kenmore Square also, and the Needham Petit Robert Bistro was also very enjoyable! The Hostess and Maitre d' were efficient, and our waiter, although a little pretentious, was obviously experienced, and we had superb service. Our party had different entrees, and all declared their choice to be excellent. Prices were moderate-high moderate, about $70.00 per person, with wine, coffee and dessert. The only false note was offering us a "special" bottle of wine for $95.00, before we had even opened our menus. But that aside, we enjoyed our evening very much, and will return!"

  • "We went to Petit Robert Bistro in Needham for our anniversary, and it was a good decision. We had a lovely meal: a nice spinach soup, followed by tender scollops St. Jacques that were full of flavor, and flavorful duck breast cooked just as we had requested. Dessert was several chocolate choices, both delicious. The atmosphere was gracious, perfect for the occasion. This is not the first time we have eaten here, and we have also tried several of the other sister restaurants. They never disappoint."

  • "We had a wonderful time at dinner. It was a relaxed atmosphere and everyone was very helpful with the menu, answered every question and were very friendly. The service, food and the drinks were wonderful, and we will definitely go back. Excellent!! Five Stars!!"

  • "I had heard this was one of the best Petit Robert restaurants so my husband and I went hoping for a nice dinner. I had a chewy steak fritte with carrots that were served in chunks, just nothing special. "

  • "Petit Robert has been in Needham for some time and this was my first visit. Shame on me. I have been missing out. The food was tremendous and the staff friendly and courteous. I started with an orangina based martini which was fabulous. For dinner I had a petit salad which was not so petit. The salad had panko crusted goat cheese. You have got to try this. I then had grilled salmon over root vegetables and a fruit tart for desert. One of the better meals I have had in some time and we eat out a lot."

  • "Food was of high quality and very fresh. A bit noisy and crowded inside."

  • "Hubby and I ordered the specials. Sent my faro, quinoa dish back because it had cold and warm parts but not hot. They heated it and then it was fine. Both of our dishes were okay but since they were specials I was hoping they would be really good. Service on the other hand is superb and staff extremely nice. Sorry I can't speak more highly of the food."

  • "This is one of my favorite dinner spots so I figured it would have to have a great lunch... I was not impressed. Service was very slow, staff seemed confused and food was uninspired. SO different from the dinner derive which I find the complete opposite..."

  • "We had a party of eight for a celebration. Nice kids choices. Everyone loved their food. Eggs Benedict was served with a salad which was nice and had options of smoked salmon or steak instead of ham. Spicy bloody Mary's were delicious. Excellent escargot and French baked baguettes. Great experience. Recommend. "

  • "we had a poor experience at the restaurant -- the service was slow and not very good. We had to wait 15 mins upon arrival for drinks. The cheese plate was so small that it was impossible to share amongst a group of 4 -- its more of single serving. Our meat was undercooked and one diner had to return it to the kitchen. Overall, it was a poor experience. This is not a cheap menu and we will not return."

  • "This last visit proved to be disappointing for one member of our party of four, and that is the reason for the poor food rating. Three people enjoyed their meals (duck and boeuf bourgignon). However, the duck, which had been ordered medium, for the 4th person, arrived completely dried out and tough. It was a total washout. Earlier salad and other appetizers were excellent. This is my 2nd visit to Petit Robert, and will return, but based on our 4th person's experience, will be sure to send improperly cooked food back to kitchen. "

  • "French onion soup was very good. We both ordered fish - one salmon & one sole - not much flavor. I never salt my food, but had to salt the sole. Looking back, we probably should have ordered standard French dishes. We won't be rushing back."

  • "We had a delicious meal with friends at the bistro in Needham. The food was excellent. We all loved what we ordered. The service was excellent and the ambiance lovely. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Our lunch was wonderful, with everyone extremely pleased with the menu selections. The service was as fine as I've had anywhere, by waitstaff, bussers, and hosts. However, on a weekday when the restaurant was about half full for lunch, we were seated nearly on top of a vivacious party of four, above whom we could barely hear our own conversation. In addition, the tables were arranged such that one member of our party was literally touching a member of the party at the next table. I recognize that servers prefer to serve nearby tables, but this restaurant is small enough that the servers would not have been overtaxed if the diners were spread out more."

  • "We always enjoy our dinners at Petit Robert. This time we tried the Chicken Cordon Bleu which we had never seen on the menu before. It was good, very well executed, but I would go back to my favorite coq au vin or even the roasted chicken next time. The noise level was louder than usual, but, then again, this was a Saturday night. My only regret is that the wine list could have more reds (especially California reds). I know; this is a FRENCH restaurant."

  • "We really loved the atmosphere here. The poached eggs fried in panko crust are a must! The service was fantastic and the wine list was very reasonable. "

  • "Food was delicious. Nice ambience and the service was good. Parking was easy. My only issue was that the wine list was a bit limited. "

  • "We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. The service was very good. The food selections were interesting, though I think the Boston location has a few more interesting entrees. The food was good, and the cold chocolate souffle was wonderful."

  • "I organised a 40th birthday lunch here with a group of friends. Without going over the top, the service was very attentive and, as always, the food was delicious ... everything cooked to perfection and beautifully presented, plus a great recommendation for a sparkling wine to toast the birthday girl with. The birthday cake they prepared was magnificent, chocolate on the outside, light and fruity on the inside! Petit Robert might just become our Official Birthday Lunch Restaurant. "
