My wife had been to Petit Robert a couple of times with her girlfriends, but I had not. What a find. Unassuming from the outside but excellent food and service. Personal attention from the owner during dinner and desert. Great Fois Gras and cheese. Rare French for this suburban location. Will be back.

We don't eat out much and maybe our experience reflects unfortunate social trends, but 2 tables over from us a loud baby and toddler made for more of an airline experience rather than a fine-dining one. This was at their suburb location, might be better to limit fine dining to downtown spots since I don't recall ever having this happen in any downtown restaurant.

Some of the food is good but others are rather disappointing. There is a tendency to use mediocre ingredients and one entree in our party was not properly cooked. Wine by the glass was of low quality for the price. Service is uneven.

This was our first visit to Petit Robert Bistro Needham. The décor was nice and I would call it moderately up-scale. The menu is rather limited and the food was good - not great - but good. Prices were reasonable except for the wine, which was overpriced. Overall a nice experience, but not one that is a standout. I would recommend the restaurant to a friend, but with a couple of the caveats that I mention above.

Pretty good place and easy to get into on week nights. Sometimes certain dishes are just bungled but my last visit there I enjoyed the tripe stew immensely. Dish had a lot of pork added (not complaining) but tended to diminish the wonderful tripe. Tripe should be the main ingredient. My daughter loves the charcuterie plate!

First time diner and did not have high expectations as this long known offshoot of Boston restaurant had never been recommended. It was also easy to get a reservation on OT though when we arrived the place was packed and with tables quite close together, we did get to know our neighbors. The meal was excellent and service was even better. The Duck was excellent and we also enjoyed the Shrimp and grits appetizer. Our waiter was very knowledgable and capable of describing each dish and the wine list with recommendations that turned out excellent. The owner was also in the restaurant and stopped to say hello which is always a nice touch. Overall, though we have only been once, but I would highly recommend!

My wife wanted french onion soup and after a search it came back with that Petit Robert Bistro had the best. We both ordered it and it came out , well not hot at all. The waiter took it back and 10 minutes later it arrived piping hot, I asked jim if it was nuked and he explained that there was no water in the double boiler, Ok. He waited to see if it was indeed hot this time wich it was. My wife ordered the scallops she claimes they where good but to me they appeared over cooked , the sauce was just ok not wow it was a little watery. The table next to us ordered the scallops and there was a night and day difference in appearence. I ordered the cassoulet it was very good , a nice duck confit over a lamb bean creation.

Friends and I enjoy going to Petit Robert for lunch. I use a walker and staff always handles it graciously. The menu does not change but there is always a special; however, I am addicted to to the crispy poached egg - extremely well prepared and fun. Our typical lunch is two hours, which we count on and are never disturbed. The restaurant has a rather large seating capacity, So far I am always able to get a bancquette, which my back appreciates. Nearby children were cute but noisy. I wish the parents held them a bit more in check.

I have been to Petit Robert many times and always liked it very much. It's a lovely environment and the service is quite good. This time I would have to say my swordfish was overdone and had no seasoning so it was pretty ordinary. This must be a fluke, because all the other meals on other visits I have been terrific.

We had a wonderful meal. South end hospitality and sparkling menu choices located in a suburban setting. The room is attractive. Our food was very European, meaning rationale portions of perfectly balanced flavors. The romaine with blue cheese salad is small and satisfying, arugula salad with a small ball of breaded goat cheese was again quite satisfying. Cod was perfectly done, and my scallops were buttery and soft, served in a nice sauce. We did order the Chocolate Soulfie which was... ah I cannot describe this in a family friendly post.

Friday night, so we knew it would be busy. Had reservation, arrived on time...hostess was not at the desk station for 10 minutes or so. Seated 10 min after she returned. Very nice waitress, but overwhelmed with tasks. Long wait for service, before ordering and in between orders. Rather disappointing by-the-glass wine pours, more like half a small glass, for steep prices. Salads interesting, but greens seemed "tired". Entrees good, especially the sauces. This is a bistro experience, and you can expect a very noisy, even boisterous, crowd, at least on weekends.

Salads were fine. The lamb/sausage/duck cassoulet was delicious. However the pork chop was a little tough. Dessert parfait was very good We had a very very very long wait between salad & main course but the waiter gave us an extra pour of wine & we were busy talking. On any other night it would have been unacceptable. We arrived @ 7:30 & had no main course inti, after 9. Overall great place to go for a tasty bite of France.

My husband and I were visiting the area for College weekend and took our daughter and her friend out to dinner. The evening was perfect from start to finish. Appetizers included delicious smoked salmon, Escargot and Lobster Bisque. The special entrée for the evening was fresh Halibut, which was prepared perfectly. Our college guests had the Steak Frites and declared it delicious. The waiter recommended a wine which pared perfectly with all the entrees and was reasonably priced. We can't wait to return.

Chocolate souffle "ran out" at 7:15. When we joked it was kind of early to run out of food the waitress became very cold and nonverbal. I've never been treated that way in a restaurant before and it was unpleasant. Also, the food wasn't as good as we remember. The duck was a little dry. Last 3 times we ate there we were raving about the food. This wasn't one of those times.

From the cordial greeting to the friendly farewell, Petit Robert Bistro delivered. Cannot say enough good things - charcuterie plate appetizer was the perfect portion and oh-so-delectable. Scallops in a cream mushroom sauce were nicely crisped on the outside and warm and soft in the middle - no mean feat, either! My partner felt his boneless chicken under a brick was some of the best chicken he'd ever had. Peach creme brulee was the perfect choice to end the evening-but a hard choice from a yummy list of offerings. Only downside was the hood not venting properly and the smell of grilled fish got quite strong, but that's a minor ding. Service was attentive and unobtrusive yet friendly. THe perfect choice. Cannot wait to go back.

We had dinner here the other night. The service was very good and the hostess was accommodating since we requested a change of table. However, the food was mixed. The ratatouille nicoise was delicious but the side of mushrooms were bland. My husband ordered the duck which for some reason to him didn't taste like duck breast. I ordered the melange de graines anciens which was tasteless on its own. It came with a red pepper coulis of which I requested more. The grain cake is boring by itself and needs to be surrounded by more flavorful things to make it interesting.

We were very impressed with this as a lovely restaurant, with excellent food and service, and in a nearby suburb, the first time we went. We returned for a second visit, hoping for the best, and the staff exceeded our expectations! Everything was beautifully prepared and presented, we had enough contact with the waitstaff, but not too much to talk, comfortably, and the evening was, once again, delightful. Petit Robert Bistro in Needham is consistently good and that's a great thing. With well-priced entrees, this is a restaurant that is worth going back to, again and again. Because the food eschews the pretense of haut cuisine and instead delivers more honest food. Service is always decent --best to go on a non-weekend night because it can get crowded. PRB is an excellent option in the suburbs that will not disappoint.
