I hate writing a bad review, because my past dinner experiences here have been great. Brunch however was a different story. We had to wait a while for our table (which was fine and the host did offer to seat us in the bar area). Once we were sat, we were immediately given water but after 20 minutes I had to track down the host and ask for her to send a server over. Someone finally came and took our order (drinks took a while to show up), a mimosa was spilled off his tray and on to my mom. I get it, accidents happen. When the food arrived the steak frites + eggs came but without any eggs, one of our benedicts came with half an egg shell stuck in the egg and the "french toasts" was sadly just one small piece of toast. After waiting for a table, waiting for a server, waiting for drinks we decided to just let it go. There are so many delicious South End brunch spots, I may go back for dinner...but never again for brunch.

We dined at Petit Robert early in the evening, after a theater matinee. And I'm so glad that we did! By the time we left, the place was packed and there was a line out the door. I'm glad to know that it's as popular as its excellent food and truly terrific service deserve, but it got so noisy that I had to raise my voice to be heard across the table. I can't recommend the food too highly, but bring your ear plugs.

Petit Robert Bistro on Columbus Avenue has been a long time favorite, and never disappoints. It's amazing how good the food is considering the small size of the kitchen. Equally so the bar, and the excellent but reasonably priced wine list. It is always energetic, everything works well, and it always makes for a fun evening. Even the valet gives personal service; the car is magically waiting when ready to leave, without reminding them that you need it. It's a little too noisy for an intimate conversation, but if it were quiet it wouldn't be so special.

This is hands down our favorite restaurant in Boston and have frequented it numerous times in the past 5 years. This is a bistro in the classic sense. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced for its excellence and the ambience is incomparable. It's the antithesis of all these chic copycat joints that have sprung up all over the city. It's authentic, the real deal. There's a relatively new chef, but not to worry because the food has not missed a beat. The service is accommodating and well paced. Some staples we've enjoyed are the coq au vin, steak fritte and the boeuf bourgeon (now a special). The creme brûlée is superb and the tart tartan killer. So glad to see them packed this past Friday night -they deserve it!

We had a reservation for 8pm on a Friday night. We arrive at 8pm, but were not seated until after 8:30pm. This is ridiculous. Others with reservations seemed to be in a similar situation. The restaurant needs to do a better job of managing table space. I like the dining room, and the food is decent. But I don't know if we'll be returning any time soon.

I love Petit Robert for offering things that you can't get everywhere. If you must have steak frites (or other standard fare), you can get them, and I'm sure they're excellent. But I like the chance to have some foie gras and braised pork shanks for a change. Both were very tasty, and the portions were generous. On previous visits I ate in the dining room. This time I decided to try a table in the bar. The room is a little livelier, with the conversation among the patrons at the bar, and the atmosphere is a bit less formal. But the service was as attentive, and it was enjoyable watching trick-or-treaters go by on the sidewalk. A family with two small children in costume was welcome for fries for the kids and wine for the adult.

The food is really good, and we have found the service to be pretty good, too, but when the dining room gets crowded, it's really loud (all hard surfaces) and time seems to stretch a bit. I also wonder at the description of this as a "moderately priced" venue, but it's money well spent for fond memories of Paris.

Went for late lunch around 1:30. Restaurant was nearly empty. Only 2 other tables occupied. Only one wait person. Had to wait at least 10 min. for waiter to even come to the table. Finally, took our order and brought our drinks. We sat for at least another 20 min. with no food and no attempt by the waiter to let us know what was going on with our food. Finally asked why our food was taking so long; said he'd check but didn't come back to tell us what was going on. Asked again and he said food was being plated. Food delivered maybe after another 5-10 min. Never have experienced such poor service in a nearly empty restaurant. I had Nicoise salad and paid $5 extra for seared tuna and it was a minute piece of tuna that was tasteless.

We were promptly seated (next to two elderly ladies enjoying their martinis!) We split a salad (perfect for a dinner salad). Wife had salmon, which she said was okay, but nothing to rave about (thus the 3 stars). I had the special.. beef bourgenoine(sp), which was excellent (4 stars). But the ladies at the next table (both into their 80's...) raved about the escargot and their split calves liver (and, of course, their great grandchild). Made for an entertaining and delightful evening. Close quarters for dining, but then it's a bistro. Incidentally, they have dining al fresco , weather permitting.

Nice menu and very tasty food. Accoustics are terrible and dining room is extremely noisy and makes it difficult to have a conversation. The space is quite cramped with tables too close together - the woman at the neighboring table hit me in the face twice with her scarf! Atmosphere is very French and French speaking waitstaff adds to this. Would recommend going at off hours unless one likes a more frenzied loud environment. The waiter was nice with Euro charm and professional, but instead of bringing my husband's soup out as an appetizer he brought it with the other main courses to be followed by his salad. This was odd and disappointing as my husband was hungry, tho not tragic - perhaps I should have repeated his request in French!

Had a Saturday night pre-theater dinner at Petit Robert. Previously, had been on Sundays. Found that 1) the food was very good, 2) the noise level was too high for conversation at a table for 4, 3) the service was very non-attentive - the staff was overwhelmed with the number of diners. Our Sunday experiences have been much different - low - moderate noise levels, excellent and attentive service...and of course, excellent food.

I recently visited Petit Robert Bistro on a Friday evening with out-of-town friends, and we were blown away by the outstanding food and really attentive service. Our waiter was extremely helpful when we couldn't decide on what type of wine to order, and the support staff always ensured that water goblets were filled, all unobtrusively. They do cram an awful lot of people in a small space, but I wouldn't let that stop me from going back there again.

We were staying in the neighborhood on vacation and Petit Robert Bistro was recommended to us. We got a reservation through OpenTable and we're lucky as it was Friday night and we were hungry. Excellent excellent service. Nice selection of half bottles of wine, which was just perfect for us, and food was great. We started with the mussels and bacon and cream, which were fantastic. Waiter brought us extra bread to sop up the broth. We ordered salmon and the mushroom risotto and enjoyed both very very much. Truly a leisurely evening with no pressure to move on and very attentive but not overbearing service. Only slight complaint is the loudness inside the tiny restaurant, but turned out fun to talk to those sitting right next to us.

Two diners loved their meals, but the two of us that ordered Coq au Vin were very disappointed. It was bland and really not as good as what we could cook. Maybe it was missing an ingredient? Salad was excellent and one diner loved the Onion Soup. At least the ambience was good, no large & loud groups made it enjoyable to sit and relax with our friends. We'll go back since it's in the neighborhood but won't order the Coq au Vin!

This place is the epitome of a French bistro, but I wish the food were a little better. The food was not bad, but it wasn't anything special either. Our party had the rotisserie chicken, which was ok, the Coq au Vin, which was decent but nothing to write home about, and the steak and fries, which was properly cooked but again nothing special. Probably the best thing to eat that night was my kids "French hot dog".

Le Petit Robert still has a lot to recommend it, but our visit on 10/12/14 was disappointing compared to previous ones. We arrived at 12:25 PM with a 12:30 reservation and were seated immediately. It took 35 minutes before a waiter even took a drink order, and it was nearly an hour before any food arrived. There was only a Sunday Brunch menu available (this was not mentioned on the website). Two of us had Moules Frites (one marniere and one curry), and they were excellent along with very good frites. The third person had Coq au Vin, which was on the greasy side and relatively flavorless. The bread was not up to par, essentially a roll that lacked a good crust and a soft inside. Le Petit Robert appears to be fading, at least at brunch.

Petit Robert used to be one of my favorite places to go to replicate the French Bistro experience. Cocktail and salad course (salade verte with goat cheese) was I argent, poulet roti was borderline dry with tasteless au jus. ) We lost our appetite waiting for the dessert so delayed was it. Service very mediocre because waitress yelled at us in order to be heard through the noise. my dining companion was very pleased with her saumon grille. The popularity of this bistro may have forced them to squeeze in a few too many tables-access was difficult which may account for the waitstaff failing to keep water glasses filled. Upon leaving, the maître d was profoundly apologetic and offered us a dessert on the house if we returned. Perhaps!

We were a bit late for our reservation because the T was running very slow. Nevertheless we were greeted warmly. However because we were late we lost our outside table so had to eat indoor in the dining room...the noise level was such that you couldn't wait to leave. The stress level was also high so it was impossible to relax and to visit. If you could get then to feed you in the very quiet bar, or if there is a table outside this would be a great place. Inside, forget it. By the way the food was excellent and the service did their very best in a not so easy situation so I would rate them very good.

I live around the corner from their south end location and have been on several occasions since moving to the area last June. It's great for both groups (they're very accommodating) and dinner for two. I've yet to order something I didn't enjoy and they have a varied wine list. The servers are attentive without being intrusive and I've never felt rushed. It's also very reasonably priced. I highly recommend it!

We were a party of 5 and everyone very much enjoyed the food. My only "complaint" which is low level is that the bowls/plates used were not user friendly. Had a great salad that was served in a high sided bowl which made eating it with a knife and fork a challenge. Same with the entree. BUT these are minor issues as the food was very good and I would recommend restaurant! And we'll return!

Bar - great seleection - manhattan and lemon drop martinini's both done well. The Smoked salmon was great - The beef bourguignon was rich tender and made with care. The lamb fell off the bone. All the vegatables were cooked spot on and seasoned right. The salads were freash and generous. Lobster Bisque - wanted more - Desert eclair had great chocolate sauce and went fast. The mouse au chocolat was rich and satisfying. Service was attenttive, respectful and unhurried. Only disapointment was menu was different than the web sight - wanted duck and they didn't have it. Still great and will come back.

My wife and I both ordered salads to start and they were great: mine with beets and a nice dressing, hers with encrusted goat cheese. For main courses, she had the Coquille St Jacques; nicely presented, but the scallops were rather tough (overcooked). I had the steak frites with bernaise sauce; the sauce was excellent and the steak was tasty but very tough and gristly. Perhaps we chose unwisely for the main course.
