Diner Reviews
  • "We celebrate major epochs and accomplishments in our shared life ( the a visit from beloved family and friends, each $10,000 paid down on our shrinking mortgage, retirement, birthdays, etc.) with visits to Petit Robert near BU. We have such happy associations with past events that it is always a happy occasion! The food and the wine are first-rate, and the staff always efficient and charming."

  • "We stopped here for dinner before a Sox game. There were four of us and we all relished our meals. Steak Frites and Skate were on the menu but after one of us ordered the skate, we were told it was not available. When another ordered the steak frites, he was told it also was not available. We substituted haddock for the skate, which was delicious. Two ordered steak tips instead of steak frites. One was excellent the other was very good but a little tough. The lamb stew, ordered by the fourth in our party, was delicious. Great wine and beer list. After dinner we walked a few blocks to Fenway and the Sox beat the Texas Rangers, a nice finish to the evening."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants with real French food: escargots are great, the scallops are divine and the short ribs are another favorite. Desserts are also varied and delicious."

  • "We had an early evening reservation (6pm) so the restaurant was not crowded. With a table at the window and spotless linen tablecloth and napkins, the setting was great. Servers were attentive and welcoming. Menu was interesting and food was delicious. A little bit of Paris in Boston!"

  • "Four of us dined at the one at 468 Commonwealth Ave and totally enjoyed the food and the service. The restaurant is small and cozy with white-linen coverved tables and an open kitchen. We went with the Dine-Out-Boston menu which had interesting variety of options. We've ordered duck leg, scallop and shrimp, lamp chop, lobster and risotto. We've all tasted each other's food and there was nothing we've tried that we did not like. We all wanted to go back again to try different dishes before we finished our meal. The service staff was professional, efficient, and attentative. I like the way they act like they are working for a non-French restaurant so we were not intimidated by asking dumb questions."

  • "Years ago my then boyfriend and I had a very special dinner at Maison Robert. When visiting Boston this weekend we saw that the chef's nephew had opened Petit Robert. What a wonderful, modern tribute to his uncle! The food, ambience and service were spectacular."

  • "hole in the wall with warm ambiance and great service. Food is very good but parking is tough as usual since it's Fenway,"

  • "Chose PRB for lunch with a visiting colleague and friend to have a leisurely and elegant time to catch up on news and work. As always, it was a perfect choice! Delicious food, provided with impeccable service, in an authentic setting. If you want the best lunch anywhere near Kenmore Square, this is it!"

  • "Petit Robert can always be counted on for well-prepared French dishes. Always a balance of seafood and meat offerings, daily specials, sometimes French items like rognons... Modestly priced French and other wines. We went for the restaurant week prix fixe. Delicious."

  • "I ordered Eggs Benedict and was happy it came with a salad (delicious dressing) and even happier when they substituted the fries with an interesting variety of cooked veg (deliciously garlicky). There was no rushing us out either."

  • "Had brunch here this past Sunday. They had a great menu selection. They've actually improved the menu selection from the last time I was hear, which was about a year ago. I was very pleased. My 20 year old daughter has some special dietary needs. They were more than willing to accommodate. Service was impeccable. The place always looks lovely. Prices are very reasonable for what you get."

  • "We enjoyed Maison Robert many years ago and have been reading about the family connection with Petit Robert. Everything was very good - we tried two of the Boston Dining out menus. Glad to see that the French tradition is being upheld! We live in NH and hope to get back soon. Merci beaucoup."

  • "Every time I come here I have a wonderful time. The staff members, from to manager to the waitstaff, are so kind and sweet. The food is also amazing. This place is a neighborhood gem."

  • "Great food, especially the pate. Good server. The basement table was not that wonderful, though, and took away from the experience."

  • "I went here for restaurant week. The seafood puff pastry appetizer was a large portion for one but deliciously flavorful and fluffy. I had my eye on the word "duck" the second I sat down so that is what I ordered for my entree. It came with a spicy sausage, sauerkraut and half a potato. It felt more German than french but the sauce was wonderful on all three items and the duck was cooked to perfection. The almond donut-like pastry and french vanilla ice cream were the perfect end to the meal. Great service, very attentive but respectful. There were groups from 7 people to tables of diners going solo. Fit for a special mid-week treat or a romantic date. I'll be back! (I heard they have fantastic brunch..)"

  • "Petit Robert Bistro is a lovely little French restaurant on Commonwealth Ave in Boston. The onion soup is the best you will find anywhere between Paris and Quebec City. In the evening the place is usually filled with locals which tells you a lot. The wait staff is efficient, very friendly, and attentive. From appetizers through desert the menu will not disappoint anyone looking for authentic French food cooked to perfection in the heart of Boston, Mass."

  • "Very courteous host who went out of her way to find me a parking spot. Finding parking is difficult. Wait staff are very helpful, courteous and very professional. My date and I ended up staying there for 4 hours until they closed. We weren't asked to leave, rather the romantic music ended and the staff were professional all the way to the end. It is definitely worth the money."

  • "The concierge at our hotel suggested Petit Robert Bistro. We were traveling with our teenage daughter. We all enjoyed every aspect of our meals. Two had duck and one the Beef Burgundy. We were seated downstairs, which was quieter than the main dining room. Overall an excellent meal,"

  • "A friend of mine and I eat at PRB about once a month. We enjoy the fact that the menu contains many items that one does not find elsewhere. We always enjoy ourselves. This time, the food was not quite up to its usual standards. The oysters, in particular, were not especially tasteful, were overdone with the julienned veggies, and had only enough caviar for the server to say they had caviar. A real disappointment. The calve's liver, which I had, was a little overcooked and hence a little tough. We'll go back for sure, as I'm sure this night was a glitch. DY"

  • "Our meat portions were delivered to the table undercooked. The setting both inside and out is very nice but it is loud inside once the place fills up."

  • "Sorry to say, but we had a pretty rough experience at Petit Robert's. My friend and I went there for her birthday dinner on Sunday night of President's Day weekend. I suspect part of the issue was that the restaurant failed to anticipate the crowd on a long holiday weekend, but we waited a LONG time for our food, and an even longer time for our check. When we looked around, everyone else was waiting too. In addition, my friend's coq au vin was highly underseasoned. My plate of steak frites lost half their frites on the way to the table. Although we were promised more frites would be delivered, they never arrived. All in all, I'm sorry to say we were pretty unhappy with the experience. Many better places right down the street."

  • "Scallops and Beef were amazing. Scallops were perfectly cooked and season. The beef was complex and rich. Oysters appetizer was a bit underwhelming, tasted like a spoon full of clam chowder. But overall PR is always a great romantic choice."

  • "We had a romantic Valentine's Day dinner, and the staff did their best on this very busy day. The food was excellent, and it is hard to find a place that pleases my husband, who trained as a chef in France."

  • "We had a really great meal with friends and everyone loved the food. My one dismay was that the special Crepes Suzette was not flaming! Other than that, a great meal. The Bordeaux was excellent as well."

  • "Great classics - mussels, escargots, mains. It is quiet, classy without being pretentious, and affordable. Good number of choices in each category. Come for dependable, if not astonishing, food in a pleasant atmosphere. Nicely made espresso drinks, too."

  • "Overall, nice atmosphere and good food. Appetizer: french onion soup and panko calamari. Calamari had great taste & texture, nice serving, crispy. Soup was cold on top as if it was microwaved insufficiently, broth as too light, disappointing. Main: Pork chop & Lamb, duck confit cassoulet, both off the special menu. Pork chop was xlnt, the best. Cassoulet was not so exciting and duck confit and lamb was dry-very much wanted to like it. Reasonable selection of wine but please don't put a lower price wine on the wine list if you cannot recommend it. Only the highest price wine was recommended. It's a disservice to your bottom line and the customers. Would like to try this place again to see if I have better luck on dish selection."

  • "The menu has many good choices. On this particular evening, I ordered some of the specials on the chalkboard, and I'm glad I did. The cassoulet should be on the regular menu. Yum. I wish the cocktail list had some more interesting (less sweet) options."
