  • "Decent food at appropriate prices. No surprises here. Poulet a l 'estragon for two was moist, tender and tasty - a little light on the veggie garniture. Steak frites were fine. Frog legs were weak. The oily sauce degraded the crispy coating on the legs so they were mushy and a bit insipid. The accompanying haricot were the best part of the dish. Also, when did waitstaff start using 'we' so much? As in: 'How are we doing tonight?' and 'Are we having desert tonight?'. Are they including themselves in our dining experience? If so, please split the bill with me. If not, then please forgo the third-person plural as I'm sure 'you' know how 'you' are doing and what 'you' are eating without asking 'me'. It comes off as patronizing."

  • "This is not high Parisian food (no crepes or souffles) but the menu does have french staples such as escargot. Everything was good, if a little on the bland side. We tried two of the three confit dishes but the standouts were the croquettes, fried eggplant, and chocolate mousse for desert. The recommended wine was also outstanding."

  • "I wanted to take my mother and her two sisters out for a special dinner, so I chose Petite Louis in Columbia. We love the original in Roland Park. I have to say that I enjoyed the bistro environment in Columbia even more than the orginal! It is louder, but we liked the energy. The two-tops are pretty closed to one another so I'm not sure about a romantic dinner, but the walk around Lake Kittamaqundi was nice after dinner. Our waiter, Francois, was a delight! We placed our wine and food selections in his hands and we were pleased with every recommendation. The short ribs, duck and quiche were just fabulous! Leave room for the cheese, profiteroles and chocolate "pudding;" they are not to be missed!"

  • "We are very fond of Petit Louis on Roland Avenue in Baltimore, so we visited their Columbia location about a month ago. It was fine at that visit. So we went back last Saturday. We were served our appetizers promptly, but waited at least 40 minutes for the next course. We were ready to just leave, when our entrees finally arrived. We were told the reason it was taking so long to get the entrees was that the chef wanted to make sure that they were prepared "right". We ate some of what they served, and paid the check and left-----unhappy! In their favor, I will admit they removed the charge for the two entrees from our check on their own. But it "ain't the same" as their Baltimore restaurant."

  • "After our second visit to Petit Louis - Columbia, I am happy to say that it is an amazing experience. They have an extensive wine list and staff to help you navigate this wine list. The food is also amazing from the omelets to the duck everything my husband and I have tasted has been wonderful. We will be returning."

  • "Meal was absolutely delicious. One of us had the restaurant week menu, the others ordered a la carte. No one was disappointed! I especially like that you have smaller options for dessert, like the bon bons and macarons. It is so nice to be able to indulge but not overdo. We hope to try the bakery/coffee shop next door soon. The service was very enthusiastic - I think that while it was evident that some of the servers were new and there were a few minor missteps, it was equally obvious that Tony and the rest of the staff were providing immediate guidance, and I expect the service will only get better and better with time."

  • "This was my 2nd time dining here. The first time was when they initially opened. We arrived early as is our style. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very professional. We ordered two drinks. He made the drinks as ordered. When the dining service started we were shown to our table as we had reserved. Our server immediately arrived and our experience was great. We will be back!!"

  • "The staff and food made for a great evening. They were able to quickly move everyone inside without drama when an evening storm rolled through. Even with this slight interruption we were quickly re-seated. I had the warm beet salad and poached salmon. Both were excellent"

  • "Had lunch with three friends on a July Tuesday. The restaurant was very empty, so the noise level was fine that day. I have heard that the noise level is terrible in the evening when the restaurant is busy. Food was delicious. Quiches are excellent for lunch or a light meal. I wish that the Columbia Petit Louis had the same prix fixe menu as the Baltimore restaurant. The prix fixe at Columbia is much more limited. Restaurant is beautiful. Good service from professionable yet affable waitstaff."

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner last Saturday for our Anniversary. Everything from appetizers to dessert was very good. Service was spot on attentive but not intrusive. We started with French Onion soup, which was probably the best I've ever had; followed by mussels - I wasn't crazy about it because it had a tomato base, and I prefer just white wine/garlic style - but my husband enjoyed. I had the Rainbow trout, and my husband had the beef short rib special - which he really liked. They had many choices for desserts, but we were full, so we split a coffee glace (ice cream) and had one of their yummy bonbons (chocolate Rasberry). It was a perfect choice."

  • "Husband and I enjoyed a lovely Sat evening anniversary dinner with great food and pretty good service. The waitress seemed a little harried (tho restaurant was NOT crowded at all) Tables are small and we were happy/relieved when the slightly loopy couple seated adjacent felt it was finally time to leave. I had the cold salmon with an amazing cucumber compote. Husband had the short ribs and was very satisfied with them. We both started with the French Onion soup which is worth the trip. The wine pairings with my meal were outstanding. Dessert and coffee did not disappoint. Very pricey even off the prix fix menu."

  • "We went there for my husband's birthday. The server was wonderful. She knew the menu, including the recipes, so she could answer any of our questions. Our meal was superb and the deserts were even better. It's not cheap but not outrageous either. we will go again."

  • "The entrees were good but expensive -- my Grilled Branzino was just one small fillet for $25. The onion soup was a bit too sweet and had a stale taste. Our server was slow and inefficient. At some point she even ignored us and vanished from the field of view. She also spilled champagne while pouring into my glass and stated that she is not good at this (pouring). All in all a disappointing visit this time. Hope next time will be better!"

Unfortunately they still need to work with their wait staff - inexperienced (poured tap water in our glass of Badoit, dropped the soup bowl of the table next to us, mixed up plates, etc.) Nevetheless, the food was good enough that we will return"

  • "Based on glowing recommendations from friends, we tried Petite Louis and were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very nice, the wait staff very attentive and friendly and the food was delicious! Situated right on the lake, there is also a very nice outdoor dining area. I had the beef short ribs which were excellent and my wife had the Branzino which was also excellent. We tried a number of the side which all proved to be delicious and beautifully prepared."

  • "We came here after hearing many wonderful things about the location in Baltimore. So much so, we decided to try the Columbia location for a milestone birthday. I should have known upon arrival our night was off to a terrible start when the waitress stepped in from the patio and neglected to hold the door for us. We were sat after a short wait even after having a reservation. We sat at a table along the window wall; seats were much too close together and patrons leaving were moving tables to get in and out. The open ceiling made sound travel and I couldn't hear my husband for the first half of dinner until nearly all patrons left. This also meant I couldn't hear the waitress. Our sides came after our meal was finished. Disappointed."

  • "First let me say that the restaurant is beautiful, with a great view, great ambiance, and seems to be a real happening place. The service, on the other hand is poor. One 0f our guests had to wait, for 15 minutes after we had been served, because her order had not been put in. Another guest ordered the evening special and never received her appetizer. The restaurant did box it up for her to take home. Two of us ordered the bouilliabaise, which had a fine flavor, but was very light on the seafood, and recieved only one order of the rouille and bread. Maybe a little more attention to detail would help."

  • "I have never been a fan of Petit Louis in Roland Park. This was my first time at the Columbia location. It is an attractive venue and nice for dining outdoors. The service is very good BUT pretentious. You are greeted in French and woman are constantly referred to by "madame". This is pretentious. Most importantly, the food is rather uninteresting. It is solid but nothing to rave about."

  • "I have just added this restaurant to my list of favorites, particularly if you're looking for a middle ground between Washington and Baltimore. Great bartender, Francois, started us off right and the staff treated us like royalty. There was a mistiming with the food so the second course was started from scratch, no hot lamps letting the food turn old while we worked on the first course. Love the attention to detail and the flavors are great."

  • "Had the opportunity to dine here with my son who is a foodie. Didn't feel like going all-the-way into the city to eat. Nice to have a Cindy Wolf establishment in our back yard. The only drawback, is our server became inundated with tables, and had it not been for the maitre'd, we would have missed parts of the end-of-our-meal. Would definitely revisit!"

  • "Made a brunch reservation for 6 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon only to find the patio completely full with no table reserved....Wonderful planning Le Petit Louis. The ambiance inside is nice, but does not make for a nice brunch, I imagine dinnertime would be a different story. The service was nothing exceptional and the food was nothing to write home about. My wife and I visited the original restaurant in Baltimore a couple years back and had a really nice experience. Perhaps the Columbia location is experiencing some growing pains, but those pains will cause this couple to steer clear in the future."

  • "I have been back many times since my first visit, and have been impressed every time. The food is excellent, and the wine suggestions have been right on target every single time. the Quiche Lorraine was amazing, as is the duck ... well, and everything else we've had! Their sides tend towards local and in season, and it shows - so fresh. It's pricy, but worth it."

  • "Our server was outstanding. The ambiance was nice. Overall, the food was very good. There were a couple of notable exceptions. First on the salade du salmon would have been much better had the salad been dressed with the dill vinaigrette stated on the menu. As it was, the salad was oily and there was no hint of dill to be found. Perhaps the kitchen staff forgot to whisk/shake before pouring? Second, the chantrelle mushrooms were overly buttered and overly salted, hiding the delicate taste of the mushrooms. With some time and work, Petit Louis could be an excellent restaurant - they just need to work out a few kinks with the kitchen and food prep. We were expecting just a bit more, considering this is a Foreman-Wolf restaurant."

  • "This was our first time dining here and we were very pleased and plan to return. Our waiter Will was excellent, was very attentive and the service was outstanding. The food was delicious, well seasoned and attractively plated. We tried the duck, chicken and seafood special which were all excellent. It was hard to choose a dessert so we got 3 - the raspberry mousse cake, the pot of creme with chocolate and salted caramel and the brownie with ice cream which were all delicious! We can't wait to go back and try some other dishes and maybe their brunch!"

  • "This was the worst dinning experience I have had in years. I ordered three coarses which threw the waiter off. Our first coarse was fine but we waited an hour for the next coarse to arrive. One person's meal was cold - it was supposed to be hot. They served two of us our main coarses while another was still being served his second coarse. We waited another hour for the main coarse to be served to the one person who had ordered three coarses. This is part of a group of restaurants being run by Cindy Wolfe which are usually excellent. Very dissapointing."

  • "We sat in the front section of the restaurant this time and it was quite noisy even at 6 PM. I think I would recommend a table farther back for easier conversation. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive, but the noise level did create one or two small missteps. The food was excellent I had the first Summer in Provence fixed price Dinner and it was very nice. The take on Salad Nicoise was excellent and the Lemon Tart was pleasantly tart with a rich and creamy meringue. Wines to match were well chosen pairings. Although the restaurant is not child oriented we took our 6 year old son who enjoyed the trout almondine a great deal."
