  • "I would highly recommend Petit Louis Bistro - Columbia because of the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, the wonderful customer service and the taste of the food and beverages. From the moment my husband and I walked in until we left, we felt at ease and welcomed, and not only would we return, but tell others as well to experience the same. "

  • "Petit Louis is the place to be . . . the food, the service, the atmosphere! Consistently delicious: tonight, we had the terrine, roquefort salads, the veggie quiche, the short ribs, , , , and the AMAZING duck! Our waitress---cheerful and knowledgeable---was excellent and kept us feeling welcome and happy. A delightful addition to the lakefront, and we wish it an enduring stay. Grab a table as often as you can. C'est l'endroit à être---not the first time and definitely not the last."

  • "Amazingly great food and great service, wonderful wine list and tasteful design. Food and service of this quality deserves a better environment. The place desperately needs sound deadening in the ceiling or perhaps it needs to be broken up into smaller dining areas.. Candidly, it sounds like your are eating in a large cafeteria. Could not hear the waiter at all. Had to ask him to repeat everything. This food, service, location (on the lake in Columbia) and wine list could make the place a romantic gem. Unfortunately, in its current condition it is not romantic at all and I can't recommend spending $175 (for 2) in this environment. I will drive to Roland Park for the original Petit Louis before I would go back to this location."

  • "We have been frequent guests at the original Petit Louis location in Roland Park in Baltimore, so we were anxious to try this new location. Four of us had brunch on a sunny spring Sunday. The menu was the same as the original location, and our selections ranged from omlettes to other egg selections to quiche. The food was well-prepared and presented. The restaurant is decorated in a very traditional French fashion (almost identical to the original location), but overall it lacked the ambience and intimacy of the Roland Park location. Also, service, while adequate, was not at the level expected at this price point."

  • "Petite Louis is such a welcome place for dining in Columbia. The food, service, and ambiance are the best in town. I will be there every chance I get."

  • "We had a 7:00 reservation and when we arrived we were told we would be seated in 15-20 minutes - not great but tolerable. After 30 minutes we were told our table still was not ready, but they could seat us at a table in the bar area. They also said they expected our table to free up in a few minutes, so we said we would wait. Another 20 minutes - still no table so they seated us at the bar table - at 8:00. They did everything they could after that to make it up - the food and wine were wonderful and the service was spectacular. We had a party of five, all ordered different entrees, and all were wonderful. We all had the French onion soup - best I have ever had. So, all in all, a fun night - saved by our server Francois and the chef!"

  • "We were so excited to try this new French restaurant, which came so highly recommended. And we did enjoy a delightful evening with friends. BUT, the service was quite slow; we were not tended to and we had to request assistance on several occasions, including to get our wine before our dinner was done. Though it was tasty, at least half of the NY strip steak was a slab of fat. The "éclair" dessert was just a bland cracker. On the other hand, the duck breast was excellent, the pot de crème was heavenly, and the restaurant was beautiful, though way too noisy. Even with just a 4-top, we all had to lean way in to hear each other. The bar was less noisy than the restaurant rooms. Something is wrong with the acoustics inside the restaurant."

  • "Had a reservation at 7pm and were not seated until after 7:30. A few other guests had the same issue. Not that I was looking for anything, but the only thing we got was the token "sorry for the wait." As we enter the end of the school year Louis got a C+."

  • "Extremely loud to the point where I could barely hear my dining companions at our table unless we shouted. Very hard to hear what the waiter was saying. Service was very, very slow. No one ever asked to re-fill water classes. For 4 people that gave 4 tiny slices of bread with 2 tiny balls of butter--insufficient. Had to wait at least 10 minutes or more each time an alcoholic beverage was ordered and they never even asked if we wanted another drink. Menu was too limited. French translations into English was very more and hard to understand. On a Saturday night they had only two bartenders to serve the bar and all the tables. When we complained to the waiter about wait times For a Wolfe-Foreman restaurant this was a very big disappointment."

  • "Everything was very good except we waited more than 20 minutes to get a glass of wine after it was ordered."

  • "I selected this new restaurant as a special birthday dinner treat for my fiance. We had reservations for 8pm, but were told upon our arrival at 7:45pm that they were still seating 7pm and 7:30pm reservations. We were finally seated at 8:50pm. Overall, I like the menu and we did enjoy our meal. I will say that, although I understand the French Bistro concept, the tables are set extremely close to each other, so you really do hear the details of the conversations of other patrons seated next to you. I will likely wait another month or two to try it again. Hopefully it will be on point the next time."

  • "Having heard good things about Foreman Wolf restaurants, our party of four had high expectations with 6:00reservations Saturday night. Entering the restaurant, the noise generated by extremely loud bar patrons was overwhelming. Our table was in a small room with four tables for four and a table set for 12. Unfortunately for us, the loud bar crowd was later seated at the table for 12. From that point on, we could not carry on a conversation with our friends unless we shouted to each other. The room acoustics are terrible. Food: generally very good; service okay. Our waitperson had her hands full with the group of 12 and our service suffered as a result. Ambience: none.... Bottom line: we will not be returning.."

  • "The last time we visited, there was no music? The music provide a good background to the concept. A bistro the food is great, the service is on time. We will be back."

  • "Dined for lunch and ordered the prix fixe for $29. Food was good, but not great. I wanted to be totally wowed - and I was by the service - but the food flavor combinations were too out there for me. The asparagus soup was okay, but nothing special. There was something about the texture of the mushroom, potato, and spinach tarte that struck me oddly - totally flaky, delicious crust but then something quasi-crunchy (potato?) and slippery (mushroom?) The best part of the dessert was the champagne sorbet, but the rhubarb could have been warmer to offset the chill of the sorbet, and the cookie added yet another odd flavor of lavender. True foodies will probably love this place. Beautiful setting and great customer service."

  • "Maybe ok for a winter dinner, but definitely not for lunch on a pretty day. Dining room is deep, dark and nearly devoid of natural light."

  • "So nice to have a good restaurant in Howard County!!! All of the food was true to classic French bistro dishes. Duck confit was great. Roquefort salad was excellent -- exactly right. Fried shrimp starter completely exceeded expectations -- light tempura-like batter. Service was attentive and knowledgeable, but not overdone. While not long, the beer list was excellent with some very interesting choices. The food was completely up to the standards of the original restaurant in Roland Park."

  • "We enjoyed Sunday Brunch at Petite Louis. The salmon appetizer was very good, as were the quiche, a poached egg dish, and the omelet. Overall, it was a very pleasant meal, but the staff is still learning the fine points and service was a bit spotty. We are very happy to have a restaurant of this calibre in Columbia."

  • "This restaurant is new to Columbia and is located on the lake found in Columbia near the Mall. The meal was absolutely delightful. There is a robust range of options on the menu starting with appetizers. I ordered shrimp begniets which turned out to be Shrimp tempura with green beans and lemon. Very tasty and could easily be shared or be a small plate for someone not ravishingly hungry. The duck breast was succulent and was served with a nice assortment of roasted vegetables. Others at the table commented how well they enjoyed their meals, the flavors and presentation. Service was so good it was notable, with lots of staff and management circulating to ensure all was well prepared and executed. We will return."

  • "This was the first time I had been this restaurant since it opened in Columbia. The food was good, the sommelier was very helpful, but we felt a bit rushed. It is a great alternative to Clydes."

  • "We dined at the Columbia Petit Louis Bistro on a Saturday evening. We were seated then greeted by our waiter, who took our drink order and mumbled his way through the specials. We started with the Beignets de Crevettes (complex and very good) and the Aubergines Croquantes (also very good), which were the high points of the meal. The grilled salmon was cold, underdone, and mushy and was served on white asparagus that had no taste save for the Bernaise. The Magret duck breast was served medium rare and was tough and chewy and, again, brought to the table cold. The service is a bit intrusive at Peiti Louis with people buzzing about, taking our plates away before you're even done eating. We were quite disappointed given the promising start."

  • "It is hard when you have dined Wolfe/Forenan in Baltimore, to compare to a new venture. My trout was excellent , and shrimp beignets very very good. My husband' s salmon just ok- but not bad ; a gain expectations so high. We each ordered a side of roasted carrots , which they combined into one serving bowl. I wish they had suggested we could split 1 order - they were very tasty though. We asked for a wine suggestion , and it was excellent .Atmosphere complaint is with the rugs . My chair kept getting caught and my foot on the way out. Tack them down , please. Noise issues others have mentioned? Eh- it's a BISTRO people ; get over it or go somewhere else . Overall , very nice evening and I will return !"

  • "We left Petit Louis in Columbia disappointed. Most of our dishes were tasty, but my veal shank, although smothered in a delectable sauce, was a slab of fat. The waiter was very apologetic and replaced it with a better cut. The ambience seemed delightful when we walked in but the noise level increased exponentially very soon and we felt like we were at a sports bar. The wait staff was very attentive, almost to the point of hurrying us through the meal. As we were getting ready to order more coffee after our dessert, the maitre d suggested we go to the bar if wanted to linger longer. Is this a way to treat patrons who just dropped over $300? It seems they like to turn over tables fast. Go for a quick meal, not an intimate dining experience."

  • "The food was very good; however, the restaurant is so noisy that I will not go there again. Even though there was a restaurant at this location before, everything in this restaurant is new. I cant understand why a newly constructed restaurant wold not be designed to have some materials to absorb noise rather than have it reflected. I was sitting a few feet across the table from my wife and could only determine what she was saying by reading her lips. A couple who are friends of ours happened to be there at the same time, and they also thought that the noise level was deafening."

  • "I'm fond of Petit Louis in Roland Park, but was meeting friends from Southern MD for dinner so I thought we should try the new Columbia location. It's as good, or better, than the original! Our waitress could have been a 2 or 3 year trained server, but the restaurant isn't six months old. The bar is lovely, and the restaurant itself is super comfortable. I'll be back!"

  • "Our dining experience was outstanding. We had a party of 6. The atmosphere was bustling and people all around looked as if they were having such a lovely time. Everything from the moment we arrived was superb. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and honest. We started out with a variety of cheeses, paired with wine, and moved on to a few other hors de voures. Highly recommend the fried eggplant, seafood beignets and the pickled beets; all were delicious. Everyone at our table truly enjoyed their main entrees, several had the lamb and raved about it. We finished off with desserts which included bon bons, the pot de cremme and eclair of the day. Will most certainly go back. Looking forward to trying brunch!"

  • "Enjoyed the green salad and the lentil salad. My wife had the chicken which was outstanding, typically a difficult dish to make in large kitchens - it was expertly done. I had the lamb shoulder, OMG - melt in your mouth."

  • "Overall had a good dinner, had an early reservation and was seated in an empty side room which was a bit awkward at first but then tables in our area filled in. Overall food was very good, service was attentive and they checked in quite often. Will go back in a few weeks as has promise for a great local gem."

  • "French restaurants tend to be expensive and Petit Loius is no exception. The food was very good starting with a nice hearty wheat bread. The trout Almondine was delicious but the side of rice was bland. My husband said his duck and potato gratin was also delicious. We shared an appetizer of crispy eggplant with cheese, tomato, tapanade and pesto sauce which I would highly recommend. A couple at a table near us ordered cheese and a cart with a lovely assortment was brought out. Another couple ordered the chicken for 2 and that also consisted of a special presentation. The service was definitely faster than an actual Parisian restaurant."

  • "Very good escargot. Eggplant with chevre and pistou was excellent. White asparagus was perfectly done. Dorade with saffron sauce was delicious. Bon bon worth the calories, pot de creme not so much! Service was excellent - attentive and knowledgeable. Need to work on pace of service...entrees came too quickly after appetizer. Too noisy...even for a bistro...get a table in one of the carpeted rooms if you want to hear your dinner mates. It is nice to have a branch of this wonderful restaurant in Columbia."

  • "I had a few bites of duck left and asked the person who took my plate to wrap it to take home. Well, there was a bit of mix-up and it did not get saved. As we were leaving, I mentioned it to our server that the take-home package had not been delivered. They were very apologetic and ended up giving me a whole entree to take home. It was very nicely done and our friends were very much impressed."

  • "The food here is as good as it gets. I am 77, and this kitchen is easily in my top 10. The service was helpful, sophisticated, and informed. It is hard to over praise our experience here. There was a single glitch, one dinner of five was not served. This was corrected faster than I would have thought possible given the care of the kitchen. Fortunately it was a rare steak and pomme frites. Don't go here for casual eating. Don't be afraid to ask questions or inquire about special preparation. This is a true upscale place that aims to please."

  • "I was very impressed with the atmosphere, the service staff was obvious. The food was served timely? This was the 2nd time for my wife dining here. She was very impressed on her first visit. The visit this time was a little of a let down. I would say in order to effect the true "Parisian" motif some continent music has to be included. The obvious attraction the bistro. I will be back again."

  • "Visited Petit Louis in Columbia for my husband's birthday. It was a wonderful evening. The hostess and staff greeted us warmly and wished my husband a happy birthday upon our arrival. Our server was quite polite, knowledgeable, and skilled. The food was absolutely amazing. I particularly enjoyed the carrot soup. We didn't stay for dessert and coffee, as we had birthday cake waiting at home. Even still, my husband was presented with a small package of delectable French macarons in celebration of his special day! If you enjoy quality food and wine and a lovely and well run restaurant, visit Petit Louis. And maybe you'll even catch a glimpse of co-owner, Mr. Foreman. Both he and Chef Wolf really know how to operate an EXCELLENT restaurant."
