  • "We have loved Petit Louis for years, wouldn't ever stop coming back. Service on Friday was excellent: personable and efficient; when one dinner was not correct (medium rare was brought out medium well), it was quickly replaced, and three different staff, including the manager, came over to make sure everything was to our liking. My only caveat about Petit Louis on a Friday night is the noise level, which keeps the restaurant from being 5-star all the way in my book."

  • "I was alone tonight. No big deal. The staff ushered me to a nice table, no vibe as a single. It was as if I was a old friend. The sommelier knows her wines and was very descriptive and friendly. My server was, well, perfect. Can I take her home? And the food was perfect too - Aubergines Croquantes stacked with mozzarella (?) and tapenade followed by a delicious Salade au Saumon. The portions were just right and the recommended wine complemented perfectly. No rush whatsoever. I lingered over the remaining wine and a book. What a nice evening!"

  • "On a recent trip to Baltimore, we dined here with our 8-year old grandaughter. It was her first trip to Petit and she very much enjoyed it, although she is quite picky about what she will and will not eat or even try. And it was good to see another child dining here as well. Sevice was attentive as usual. It's a great space, although the restaurant is loud and the tables very close, but the food is worth the trip. The food is fairly priced. Soups are excellent as are fish dishes. I have experienced very few disappointments in my many visits here. Whenever we visit the Baltimore area, we make an effort to eat at Petit."

  • "I sometimes read the service at PL is over the top. One of the reasons we keep going back is because we love that a server there will never reach in front of you, will always serve and clear from the correct side, will be well versed on the menu and will deliver just the right amount of attention. It's a treat to dine with such great service, from the moment we walk in and throughout dinner. Service aside, the veloute is HEAVEN IN A BOWL. PL is a favorite - always good - always reliable."

  • "As a relocated Washingtonian, I frequently tell people that Baltimore has better restaurants than DC. We love to dine out and try new places. We've been huge fans of Pazo since we first discovered it about five years ago, but look out Pazo, I think we have a new favorite. No surprise it's the same owner, which is what convinced us to try Petit Louis Bistro in the first place, and really, the experiences are very different. In fact, Pazo is better for vegetarian options. But as far as flavor, service, and ambiance, stepping outside of downtown, and heading up to Roland Park was the best decision we could have made for taking friends out for their anniversary. Everything was done to perfection. Impeccable place. Absolutely adored it."

  • "Enjoyed dinner Sunday evening with a friend, and every aspect of the meal was above reproach. Gracious and efficient service; the best -- dense and chewy -- bread in the City; simple, delicious, and lovingly prepared food. My duck breast with beets and orange gastrique was cooked to perfection, tender, and beautifully served. Rice pilaf was an excellent complement. My companion's eggplant napolean was beautiful and delicious. One minor slip ably rectified by the sommelier was a poor wine recommendation by our server. Desserts ended the meal on a fresh and not too sweet note -- rhubarb with chantilly cream and chocolate mousse -- topped with fresh whipped cream. This restaurant remains my hands-down favorite in Baltimore."

  • "Petit Louis had a wonderful wine list but drinks and food are quite overpriced. $10 for a kir royale is absurd. If you have money to burn, though, that is your place. I also have never had a waiter taste my wine before. Does it matter how it tastes to him? I'm the one drinking the wine!"

  • "The menu, which they claimed will be changed very soon, was not exciting at all. My salade frisée was decent by the omelette au canard was tasteless with a few pieces of very dry duck leg. The tarte au citron was good but the meringue on top was way too sweet. All in all, not the best dinner experience and the bill was over $200 for 3 of us."

  • "I hadn't been to Petit for a while. Met my son for dinner. First, the entire team serving us were as top shelf as I've ever experienced. Absolutely incredible at their job, their attention, their professionalism and their warmth. Then there was the meal. My son had the trout that he adored. I ordered the pork tenderloin. I have traveled the world and the states, and can honestly say this dish was as flavorful as I've experienced anywhere. The tenderloin could have been cut with a blade of grass. The seasonings and sauce were amazing. And blending it with the spaetzle was awesome. An incredible meal."

  • "I selected the Prix Fixe lunch- The food was wonderful including an artichoke salad and lamb sirloin. We could not pass up the deal on the wine. Good Wine, Good Entree and a superb rhubarb tart.   • "I have been to Petit Louis many times with friends over the years. I chose to go there for my birthday this year, with my husband who'd never been. When the hostess carried my drink to the table, it tipped and spilled everywhere, leaving a wet, sticky mess. We were told upon seating that the day's special, cassoulet for two, one reason I'd chosen the restaurant that night, was gone. My husband chose another dish, which after 20 minutes they came back and said was also no longer available. I ordered wine with my meal and was halfway thru before it arrived. A couple was seated next to us at some point, they ordered and received the cassoulet, with much flourish. After we ordered dessert, they brought out a third (birthday) dessert."

  • "We love living near this wonderful little restaurant. When we go, no matter how busy it is, we're always greeted warmly, the service is efficient and well-executed, and the food is consistently delicious. I love that we can eat lightly or with reckless abandon - the menu is such that it's just as easy to have soup and salad as it is a boeuf bourguignon. And the soups are excellent - never too salty. We have no complaints!"

  • "I eat here frequently and usually the food is excellent but tonight the mussels were not as fresh as they should have been. I pointed this out to the waitress after the dish was removed. She apologized but that was it. We should not have been charged for them but they were on the check. The rest of the meal was fine and I have had this dish many times previously and they were fresh, plump and delicious."

  • "Cozy and with very good, attentive service. A bit hard to hear the server list the specials due to fairly high noise level. My appetizer of warm lentil salad with duck confit was a bit too vinegary but very tasty. The short ribs with mashed potatoes and the side of sautéed spinach were superb! My companion loved his beet salad appetizer and liked his main course duck confit. Dessert was satisfying - profiteroles and ice cream, an unusual, not-totally successful combination of orange and hazelnut - neither flavor really enhanced the other. All in all a very pleasant and delicious dining experience. I look forward to going to the sister restaurant in Columbia."

  • "Wonderful food, cute setting but the staff seems intent on rushing you through and out and the noise level is like Grand Central Station at rush hour. Definitely not a place to either relax or recharge!! Staff also seems trained (most are this way) to present a weirdly haughty, austentacious manner which comes off as a bit bizarre. Definitely unlike a bistro in France or any more upscale restaurant anywhere!!! Just off-putting!"

  • "I've been going to Petit Louis for the past 6 years. I've never had a bad experience there. It can get quite loud in there but it doesn't bother us. We recently went to Petit Louis to celebrated our 6 year anniversary. We started off with some appetizers, escargots and some sort of soup (it was one of their special soups of the day) Both were very good. I ordered the Steak Frites and it came out perfect. I asked for it to be cooked medium and it came out just perfect, red center but not bloody. My boyfriend ordered their special of the night, the short ribs, and they were perfect. Overall I would recommend this restaurant to foodies and people who don't mind a noisy atmosphere."

  • "We had a wonderful evening. The staff are all charming, helpful and extremely professional. I love being greated in French and like the greeter said, we come here for more than just the food. However, the food was superb and our fish was perfectly cooked. We live in the neighborhood and love having Petite Louis so accessible to us. I do wish it were a little quieter, though."

  • "This has been our go to restaurant for sometime. Patrick will make you welcome every time you come thru the door whether it's your first time or an every day occurrence. We had the whole chicken and of course it was superb. We wanted a special little desert and our server came out with scrumptious chocolate, orange and hazelnut cake it was to die for, just enough for two to share. Everything as always wonderful!"

While I'm normally a lunch or weekend diner, I make sure to visit a couple of times each winter for this special."

  • "Petit Louis' kitchen is generally very good. Sweetbreads, however, are not their specialty. I've had them there as an appetizer, where the sweetbreads were less prominent on the plate than the abundant sautéed cauliflower. And this last time I had them as an entree where the sweetbreads were less prominent on the plate than the abundant sautéed mushrooms. In both cases, the sweetbreads should have been the main ingredient by overall volume, and the accompanying garnish vegetables should have been decidedly less in volume and decidedly more in mere culinary support. And, both in the appetizer and the entree, the sauce enrobing the sweetbreads lacked the earthy umami flavors that make brown sautéed sweetbreads so delectable to order."

  • "We arrived and were sent to the bar. Several people who arrived after us were also sent to the bar. There were many open tables. Service was great, but portions were extremely small, especially considering the prices. I order a chicken breast, that turned out to be part of a cornish hen. There were a few tiny vegetables on the plate. My husband's dish came with two small pieces of pork tenderloin and some overly buttered spaetzel. Immediately after our last bites, we were offered the cheese plate which we declined even though we were still hungry. We felt that the prices were way too high for the quantity and quality of the food. Very disappointing experience."

  • "Good: The quality of the food was great. I had the duck breast and my wife had the short ribs. The wine list was extensive but the waiter made excellent suggestion for my meal. He provided a tasting of three wines for my wife to choose from. Your call: A very tight and ‘energetic’ atmosphere. There are no private conversations in this restaurant. Not so good: It’s in a neighborhood, a very nice part of Baltimore, so parking is a challenge. The Maitre d' seemed pushy. Maybe related to us not wanting the table in the corner next to the coat rack. I don’t recommend that table. I saw the couple seated there interrupted several times with people hanging coats and just standing up behind them casually holding conversations."

  • "We frequent Petit Louis regularly for dinner and sometimes for business lunches. This was our first prix fix civilized lunch. It was fabulous. This week was a gnocchi appetizer that was tasty but very different from the Italian style, the arctic char was perfectly cooked, moist on the inside with a lovely crunchy skin. My husband loved the pineapple tart - both of ours. The service was quick and efficient, which I really appreciate for weekday lunches - without feeling hurried. This restaurant is always a go to and never disappoints."
