Petit Louis Bistro
cramped and noisyTables are tiny and close together, Very noisy. However, food was excellent as was the service6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been there severalWe have been there several times. This is the first time the service was not good. We may have had a new wait staff person. We were ignored for a long time and then was slow after we got our order in. I usually have to slow down the service to pacae it out with drinks, apetizers etc.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMUnassuming perfectionWe're lucky enough to live at a stone's throw from this unique Roland Park establishment, so eating at Petit Louis should have become commonplace for us by now, except... it never does! The staff is knowledgeable, kind and attentive, the food is delicious and beautifully prepared, the prices are very reasonable, and the ambiance takes your imagination straight to your favorite local restaurant in the French countryside. The menu is modest in size, but the variety is great. I could describe each dish, but you'll just have to come try them for yourself -- you won't be disappointed.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBeam me up ScottieWhen successful, dining at a genre restaurant, whether it be a NY-style deli or mock English pub, in other places, will transport you to your favorite original. Petit Louis is that for me when it comes to French bistro food in Baltimore. Their onion soup, steak frites, roast chicken (and other menu items of that ilk) ring true to those staples of Parisian neighborhood dining, and as a rule that's what has kept me coming back regularly over the ten years I've lived in Roland Park. I'm not as consistently impressed by their more ambitious offerings, but I understand they have a new chef, so only time will tell on that front. Meanwhile, if you're yearning for your favorite Paris bistro but don't have your passport handy, do stop by.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fabulous and waiterFood was fabulous and waiter very attentive. The bar was very accommodating in finding our friend the type and strength of bourbon he was looking for. A lovely evening.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, ambiance, serviceI brought my girlfriend to dinner for our anniversary. The service was excellent. They have a dedicated wine expert who is very personable and knowledgeable about wines. The portions weren't huge, but the food was fantastic. My girlfriend originally wanted an item that they ran out of, so they offered an item that they had just received and wasn't even on the menu yet; it was excellent and she loved it. Our waitress was very friendly and seemed to have the whole menu memorized, french included. I have already recommended this restaurant to my friends. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll love it.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBest, most consistent restaurantAwesome as always. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. Have never had a bad meal or a bad bottle of wine.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe classic neighborhood scene,The classic neighborhood scene, never disappoints!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOne time of the manyHad the lamb steak with olives and it was chewy. A lamb leg cut would have been better.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOh Petit Louis, I love you.Oh Petit Louis, I love you. Perfect service and usually perfect food. The wait staff here are just exceptional. Extremely friendly and wonderfully knowledgeable. It is my favorite part of dining here. We came for brunch and enjoyed delicious food, as usual. There was only a minor blip which was remedied quickly. I would absolutely return.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite restaurant!I went to Petit Louis the first time last week to celebrate mt 27th birthday and loved everything about the restaurant from the service to the food. I would eat there every night! I look forward to coming again to try the other options on the menu!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!There are no words to describe the deliciousness, the wonderful knowledgeable service at Petit Louis Bistro. You just have to go and experience it for yourself! Everything was just scrumptious. Food prepared to perfection with combinations that were just a delight. Love it and will definitely return again. The decor is gorgeous. Truly lives up to the excellent tradition established by Pazo.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth itSomewhat stuffy, upper-class feel and price, but the food is well worth the wait (and price).5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper foodThere were4 of us. One couple goes there all the time. Everyone loved their dinner. Salmon was perfect as was the trout and eggplant appetizer. Their cheeses were amazing and a great Frnch wine list topped off the choices also excellent service.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic as always! It was excellent - the food was delicious and the service great. I had the scallops and they were the best I have had this year! Perfectly cooked and with a delicious mushroom and ramp sauce. 4 of us dined that night and all enjoyed their meals.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great mealSuch wonderful attentive service and delicious food. Difficult to choose from all the great options. That's why I keep coming back!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent MealWe had an amazing dinner at this charming bistro. Quite possibly the best french onion soup was served with a blend of chicken/veal broth and Spanish Marsala wine- yum! The duck confit was also fabulous with a perfectly crispy skin and aromatic flavor. Try the chocolate pot with Kalhua for dessert until the chef agrees to make a souffle.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulGreat service and great food made me have a wonderful birthday at Petit Louis. We shall be back!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic as alwaysFood is amazing, service is excellent, and great ambience. We continue to go again and again. Highly recommended!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a TreatHalfway through our excellent meal, I looked away from our table and just watched the activity throughout the restaurant. The well orchestrated movement of waiters, maitre d's and the sommelier was a site to be seen. All moved between tables effortlessly to make sure meals were delivered properly, food was of high quality and the needs of the guests were attented to seamlessly.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect, again, as alwaysPetit Louis never disappoints. My brother's first dinner at my favorite spot was everything it could have been. Thank you again for a lovely evening.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic FrenchI have always loved this restaurant. Every time I walk through the doors I feel "home" and know whatever I order will be delicious. Loved the asparagus bignets this time, and the scallops were the best I've had.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPetit LouisPetit Louis is my favorite because everything about the restaurant is superb and I also run into all of my favorite people when I'm there.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMmy favorite Baltimore restaurant!food-beyond delicious
enviroment-charming and elegant
I will return and refer friends. the escargot, french onion soup and salads wereperfect. Bloody Mary was the best. not too big but full of pepper and horseradish and olives!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband's sweet breadsMy husband's sweet breads were great. apple torte dessert was so so. Service was attentive but had trouble understanding her. However she did have a sense of humor and it was much appreciated. It was an overall nice experience.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA North Baltimore StapleThis is the best French bistro in Baltimore hands down. In fact it is my favorite bistro because of its rustic feel. From the homemade bread to the classic but incredibly well done dishes, this restaurant is hard to beat. I've been here more tea than I can count and have never had less than a perfect time. There is no doubt in my mind that Petit Louis is one of the best places to eat in Baltimore if you like classic French bistro dining. Even if you don't, the food, service, and wine is worth taking another chance on the style of cuisine.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe're regulars. We love theWe're regulars. We love the place! The food is great and the service is incredible!. This is the best-run restaurant that I've ever been in !5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service amid the dinThe food, service and wine list are superb. The noise level is excessive. The tin ceiling and the closely placed tables appear to be the culprits.
We usually leave with happily full stomachs and headaches. We usually ask ourselves to elaborate on the conversation with others on our table because unless we lip read, we cannot clearly communicate back and forth because of the ambient cacophony5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing as usualMagical and great food will have to return again soon5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular food, drinks,Spectacular food, drinks, service, and atmosphere as always.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFavoriteFriendly and Attentive Service. Staff is well trained and knowledgeable. The chef is flexible. Ambiance takes you back to Paris. We go there often. Very welcoming.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA little bit of Paris in BaltimoreI love Petit Louis. I went to grade school in Paris and every year a group of us get together at my house in Lutherville. The weekend would not be complete without a trip to Petit Louis. The staff has always been more than accomodating...even when we were a party of 13 and the year half of the folks showed up an hour late...we were all able to sit together without missing a beat ! The wine list is superb and the food always reminds us of Paris.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at Petit Louis is alwaysDining at Petit Louis is always a delight. Great food & wine and the wait staff is top notch. It just doesn't get much better than Petit Louis.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as always! You will not find a better Bistro experience than at Petit Louis!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGlad we returned. It's been awhile since we have gone to Petit Louis because we had a couple meals there where it was very rich and a bit crowded. However this meal was superb and the service flawless. The Lardon Salad is one of the best meals in Baltimore (or anywhere). I am so glad we returned and we'll be back. It can be loud in Petit Louis but it is part of the "bistro" atmosphere so it didn't bother me.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA real home run !We have often gone to Petit Louis on the spur of the moment. We have really never been disappointed, but many times we have left uninspired. Our last visit was absolutely outstanding . Everything was fresh, tasty and well presented. The cheese offerings also should not be missed. The coq au vin was better here than the several times I had it while in France.
Would give Petit Louis an enthusiastic thumbs up!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMToo noisygreat service, good food, too noisy and table too close to have a conversation--heard everything from tables next to us5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful dining experienceI've been to Petit Louis Bistro 7 times and every time was exemplary. Delicious food, knowledgeable, friendly, well-trained staff, and a wonderful environment make Petition Louis Bistro an outstanding dining experience.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMPetit Louis is OutstandingThree of us enjoyed a fixed price lunch of three courses at Petit Louis. Each course from the salad to the main course to the dessert was exceptional. One of the members of our party was an out of town guest, and she was so impressed by the food preparation and presentation. Service was friendly and attentive. There is a very extensive and excellent wine list. Petit Louis is highly recommended.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service, food and atmosphereThe service, food and atmosphere is always excellent. One of my favorite places in Baltimore.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for special occasionsOur family loved the restaurant. The occasion was a "significant birthday" for me, and I was absolutely thrilled to be there. Of course, it was pricey, but for us it is a special occasion restaurant, not a weekly diversion. I just have to remember not to eat so much at "my age." Thanks for a great evening.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect neighborhood bistroThis is the third time that I have been to Petit Louis. It was outstanding. I let the server know that I wanted to take my time (I was alone). His timing was perfect - I never felt ignored, nor did I feel bothered, while I had brunch and read my book.
This time I had OJ (freshly squeezed), coffee (perfectly brewed, a pleasure to sip), and Quiche Lorraine with salad (delicious and just the right size, not too big and not too small). Score another great meal!
This is a perfect neighborhood bistro. I could easily imagine myself in Paris!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistent excellence! Our table was waiting for us at the appointed time. We were warmly greeted at the door. The wait staff was ver attentive, but not overbearing. The food, as usual, was superb! A lovely dining experience!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA good place to close a dealOur group of 4 was coming together after heavy travel from 3 continents. One person was an hour late. The staff was very relaxed and professional about trying to make us all comfortable and keeping us fed. The food was high quality and the ambiance was relaxed and quiet enough for us to conduct our negotiations.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbPetit Louis was all that it promised to be and more. The ambiance is relaxing yet refined. The charcuterie board had paper thin ham and a delicious olive oil. The creamy goat cheese on one of the salads we had was amazing as well. We picked "punchy" Mersault from the wine list and Morgonade sure that we enjoyed it. Job well done. I'd love to come back for dinner.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic French fare, warm ambienceVery good classic French fare and decidedly French ambience. I had the mussels, listed as an appetizer, but the portion was very generous--more than enough for an entree with an excellent beet salad, simply dressed, which brought out the earthy taste of the fresh beets. Everything is well-prepared, desserts are to die for, as is the boule of fresh bread for the table. Wait staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Tables are close together, so it can feel a bit claustrophobic if the restaurant is crowded, but there's a warm friendly feel, not at all stuffy.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, bistro styleFood was great, bistro style done right. We got escargot and eggplant apps., and steak frittes and lamb leg steak. Both were cooked as ordered and brought to the table hot.Impeccable flavor, appropriate presentation.Prices are reasonable as well on both food and drink. Excellent service in a very busy, bustling environment by a team that has developed a seamless execution of service. Atmosphere is very lively, and loud, but just what we wanted. We will return, most definately with friends next time.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dinner. The appetizersExcellent dinner. The appetizers were wonderful and the salmon with spinach was out of this word; lick the plate good. We went on a weeknight evening, were promptly seated and had a
great waitress who provide lovely service. Not rushed, good atmosphere, some noise but not annoying. A really nice evening. Would recommend. Could be pricey but well worth it.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA+ Food in a Cozy SpaceWe received a gift certificate and were excited to try something new, after having just moved to Baltimore. The website claims the attire to be casual, so we showed up in jeans - we were the only ones. We felt under-dressed (most guys had on dress slacks and blazers while most ladies had on slacks or dresses), but that didn't stop us from loving the food and atmosphere! I had duck and my husband had salmon - both were cooked to perfection. Of course we capped off the evening with some delicious dessert - I had opera cake and my husband had chocolate custard. We were stuffed, but wanted more because it was so good! While the space is a little cramped, we loved the authentic French atmosphere and can't wait to go back to try something new.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Petit Louis Bistro!!!Love Petit Louis Bistro!!! The food is wonderful! The wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive. And generally, dinner there is always a wonderful experience!! The restaurant itself is adorable! Can't wait to go back again!!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
