  • "The Peter Shields Inn is a place for special occasions and was a perfect setting for a birthday dinner for my husband. Beautiful mansion yet cozy atmosphere. Table for two on the side porch was romantic! Food was outstanding. The special salad and lobster offered were each melt in your mouth and made for a very memorable meal. My husband chose a beef dish from the menu and was equally as pleased. The server, Harriet, was very efficiently professional and attentive. When his dessert came to the table with a candle on the plate a few people nearby joined in a quick Happy Birthday song and a fuss was made in a nice way! My husband and I will always treasure this evening and the delicious food and good service! Just delightful!"

  • "We had the early dinner prix-fixe, and it is very good at $40. The salmon with crispy skin was excellent and just the right level of tenderness. The chicken was a little dry, but still good. Excellent garlic bisque and roasted beet salad - my wife, who normally does not like goat cheese, loved it in the beet salad. She had the lava cake and I had the date pudding. Both were very well done. It is a BYOB, so grab you favorite bottle!"

  • "As usual, very good overall. However, we always drink sparkling water with dinner and were disappointed that the bottle they brought us was not cold at all. We were told they had no cold bottles so we drank tap water. No big deal - but in a restaurant of this caliber (and price) they really should have cold sparkling water available."

Service is great (very attentive towards your needs). Food is delicious we have had only one meal (entrée - hanger steak) which was not good. We love it there and will go back every year. High recommendations, must try!"

  • "The food was excellent. Spring garlic bisque was outstanding, but of course only available through June. Service was very good, though not quite flawless. Piano player contributed to very nice ambiance. Great view of the beach / ocean, inside or outside. BYO but they also have a deal with a local place to buy and bring wine to the table - great combination. We'd go back and would not hesitate to recommend it."

  • "It is a lovely home transformed into a fabulous restaurant! The good was delicious and a good portion, not skimpy at all!!! Priced appropriately for fine dining. BYOB which keeps the price down and you are not paying 4 times the cost. The piano player in the lobby is terrific and the music flows pleasantly through the rooms. Not over bearing at all. Service was attentive. I say don't miss it. I'll go back again this year for sure!!!"

  • "I think PSI is beautiful. I have been there in the past and the food was very good. I only get to go on a few date nights per summer with my husband so I cherish these nights. I picked PSI because I had a great meal there last summer. Well, this year not so much! My appetizer was very average, but my hanger steak was awful! It was tough, so tough that I almost couldn't believe it. It was cooked perfectly, but I could not believe it was a $34 dollar steak-maybe a few dollars from shop rite was the quality. I love steak and have had steaks at many restaurants so I was surprised by what I was served! I love to cook-I know quality food and for me it was not here this night! Now my husband had foie gras and loved it and salmon and loved it."

  • "Dottie was our server. When we walked through entrance to our table, we passed a pianist that set the mood. The ambiance was perfect. The host staff was professional and courteous. Exactly what I would hope for. ( this was my first time here). When Dottie found out my date was retiring she brought us 2 complementary glasses of champagne. I was going to wait until after dinner but I was nervous so I seized the moment to pop the question. She said yes! My date had the halibut and I had the duck. Both meals were excellent. We will definitely return. Oh, the views from the front were excellent!"

  • "We dine here multiple times a year. We love coming in the summer so we can enjoy the front porch seating. Tuna tartare and foie gras are some of the best I've ever had. The hanger steak is my go to, it's always prepared perfectly and so flavorful. Halibut is also a grat choice. Desserts you can't go wrong but our favorites are lava cake and toffee pudding."

  • "We have dined here 3 times, 2 with larger parties and they get it right. This is a BYOB so you can save huge dollars by bringing good wine to enjoy your meal. The food has been consistently delicious. Everyone at the table is served at the same time. Food isn't removed until everyone at the table is done. They do the little things right. The location is to die for, facing the ocean and beach and the restaurant itself is well decorated and classy. It is a great place for a special night, or just for treating yourself to a very well prepared meal. Our meals with appetizer, entree and dessert have averaged about $60 per person and have been very well worth it. We will continue to regularly dine here."

  • "We've been doing some serious dining in Cape May for about 6 years now and have just never made it to the Peter Shields Inn. This year we finally made it a date and....WOW! A littler fancier than most CM restaurants (smart casual dress), they have a nice selection of menu items but it's not overdone. My grouper was perfectly pan seared with a wonderful roasted corn, green salsa and papaya accompaniment. The Scottish Salmon was also perfectly prepared. Lovely beet salad and a rich, smooth chocolate panna cota with chocolate banana ice cream for starter and dessert. Love that it is a BYOB and that there is outside dining. We sat on the porch with a great view of the ocean. Service was delightful. Don't miss it."

  • "When you find the need for elegant romance to mark a memorable evening, it's hard to do better than the PSI. Nestled on a quiet corner of the bustling Cape may landscape, you will find a culinary experience and cozy atmosphere that will bring your intimate gathering to an enlightened plane. Too much? Not quite, but you are in charge of your own guest list to compliment your evening. I took my gf, and PSI made me look like I deserved her. The Cape May wine was a nice surprise, put your nose down and give it a try. We immensely enjoyed the Crab Salad, Duck, and Tile fish, and finished it off with two of the dessert specials (the chocolate lava cake and the bread pudding). Romantic Tip: dress for the occasion, it makes it even more special."

  • "While the food was excellent and the view was very nice, the server needs to be more attentive. Next time, we'll ask for Chris. We should have done that this year, but I never thought of it. Had him last year and he is excellent. Very attentive and an excellent server. Our waitress spent at least 10 minutes at one table 'conversing' (wasn't taking an order). She appeared to only have 2 tables while Chris was waiting on at least 4 tables and paid attention to all of them. We saw very little of our waitress."

Establishments already at or near the top of their game have little room to make improvements, but PSI managed to do it. The food was excellent, from appetizers through dessert, and the service was efficient and non-obtrusive. The ambience, as usual, was also first-rate. PSI has evidently decided to stay in the competition for "Best Restaurant in Cape May"."

  • "We went to Peter shields during restaurant week and but we booked based on the reviews, not knowing it was restaurant week. I wasn't happy with the meal and they took the price off the menu. My husband wasn't happy with the meal but u know men he was hungry and ate it anyway. I feel maybe they don't have their old chef that got all the good reviews. Hopefully. things turn around. Lovely restaurant great views of the ocean."

We were lucky enough to book our Cape May weekend during restaurant week and were able to try PSI for a very affordable price---especially with the BYOB. Each course was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The fish (tried the tuna tartare appetizer, salmon, and grouper) was fresh and cooked well. I am not a big dessert person but their chocolate panna cotta with roasted peanut anglaise, cocoa nibs, berry puree, and chocolate banana ice cream was to die for!! Cappuccino was delicious as well. Can't wait for a return visit."
