  • "After the tourist cafés, restaurants with poor service and sassy attitude that abound in a seasonal resort, what a pleasure to find PSI. leave the kids at home, get rid of the flip flops and sunscreen and settle in for a lovely evening of simply beautiful food."

  • "We have dined at PSI on several occasions. We have never been disappointed. The service is top notch, the food is the correct portion size, artisticly presented, very fresh, and cooked to perfection. We will be back."

  • "Often, restaurant marketing over-promises the actual experience and food. You see gorgeous food pics online--then the real thing disappoints. Not this place. We actually bought what was advertised and it was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was personal. And ambiance was quite elegant. Just make sure to BYOB. They do serve wines from a local vineyard. But they don't hold up to the food."

  • "My husband and I stayed at the Inn and dined at the restaurant during our stay. We have been guests at Peter Shields Inn since 1981 but had not dined there for some time. We had a sensational experience. My husband had salmon and I had scallops, which were the best I have eaten anywhere. Truly a memorable meal and evening, with Daniel as our excellent server and a lovely group dining next to us, with whom we enjoyed conversation. We will be back soon."

  • "We sat in the large room to the right of the entrance, and the piano player in the hallway was so loud that we could barely hear each other. As other tables filled up, the noise level became a serious problem. Tried to laugh about it, but next time, we'll ask to sit in one of the rooms far from the piano. The food was very good, though some dishes were way too salty (pork chop was the saltiest!). Best dishes were the scallops and the tenderloin. The oceanfront setting of the restaurant/inn is amazing. It was lovely to sip wine on the porch. We noticed one lovely table for two on the balcony above the front entrance -- a chef's table serving a multicourse tasting menu to one lucky couple each evening. We will give it a try on our next trip."

  • "Had scallops and tuna. Both excellent. We asked for special seating overlooking ocean and got it. Very limited wine list."

  • "I would have rated it outstanding except for the other guests appearances. On the bottom of the menu it states that proper attire is required or the restaurant reserves the right to deny dinner service. Our party of 4 had the 2 ladies in dresses and the men wore sport coats. Many of the other diners were in shorts and t-shirts. When the hostess came by our table and asked how everything was, I asked her what the dress code was for guests mentioning the super casual diners in shorts etc... Her reply was that long pants are not required but she did not have an answer as to what the dress code is. In an upscale and pricey restuarant our group was very disappointed with this attire. We would definitely not return and not recommend it."

  • "The prix fixe menu is a delight!! We were seated in the side room with a lovely room, and we were able to entertain our out-of-town guests comfortably!"

  • "My wife and I come three times a year....mostly on special occasions...The Inn is perfect! The food, service, and ambience make for a perfect dinner experience. Bring your own wine, like a Chapoutier Bila Haut, and as the Brits say " Bob's your uncle!" ( There you go!)"

  • "This is by far my favorite restaurant in Cape May. Washington inn is descent and might come in second, but peter shields is exceptional. The food was as good as any meal that I have had in the city in quite some time. Each meal had a complex flavor profile and was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Keep up the great work. We will be back!"

  • "Our expectations were high on dining here. The ingredients were fresh, but there was just a minor issue with my ceviche appetizer. The key to a good ceviche is to let the seafood "cook" in the marinade which is primarily lime juice. This was not done and it was essentially like eating sashimi drowned in citrus juice. Otherwise all other dishes we had were well prepared and I will not hesitate to return based on this small mishap."

  • "It is difficult to find a truly excellent restaurant in Cape May, given the huge tourist audience. The space is lovely and suited to special occasions. The food and service are wonderful. It is expensive, but mediocre restaurants in Cape May are similarly priced. This was the best dining experience we had."

  • "We are local residents and enjoy dining here on a fairly regular basis; it has become a tradition for celebrating birthdays. We were too many to be seated on the porch, but staff was kind enough to give us a table by a front window with the same great view. They also surprised us with candles on the desserts of the 2 birthday celebrants, which topped off a lovely dinner. Food is always delicious and beautifully presented, and we always have a wonderful time since service is attentive and not intrusive. Would recommend to anyone; the BYOB arrangement makes this Inn a good value."

  • "Am from NJ and in Cape May often. Had never tried this place. Have dined at hundreds of the finest restaurants in our country and overseas. This place is all hype and people are fooled into thinking that it is some kind of "amazing experience." The food is just ok. Very underwhelming actually unless you have never truly had great food. They don't have a liquor license and offer local wines. Servers quickly fill your glass in order to get you to buy more. About the only thing they do quickly. Timing of service between courses is way off. Over 35 minutes between appetizers (horrible oysters) and main course. The dessert was poorly done. Coffee was burnt. I mentioned it and was scolded. SO MANY places in Cape May that are WAY BETTER!"

  • "We were in Cape May for 4 nights and this was definitely our favorite meal. Scallops are everywhere on Cape May menus but the dish my wife had here was not only the best prepared, but it was also the most generous portion. I had a wonderful veal porterhouse that was also exceptional. While countless area restaurants are BYOB, we truly appreciated that the hostess accepted our bottle before we were seated so that it was brought to our table by a server. It's a nice touch! In addition, the opportunity to move out to the front porch for our dessert and coffee really put an exclamation point on the whole experience. We'll certainly be heading back!"

  • "My husband & I went for my 50 something birthday weekend celebration dinner. We walked to the place on a moon lit night. It's right on the beach. We loved the atmosphere and service. The live piano music was heavenly. I had ordered the Salmon. Sadly, it was a little heavy on salt. However, the beet salad was perfection. This is a great place for special occasions. It's a bit pricy but worth it for a special celebration. From where we were seated I would not consider it an intimate place. It has a very lively up beat atmosphere. Lots of male waiters constantly buzzing around. It seemed several to each table at times. Beautiful building worthy of the "Main Line". A place you've got to try at least once to make up your own mind."

The food was excellent and put together with pride and the service was second to none, they really made us feel special. I would love to stay here over night to get the full experience of this beautiful place. Thank you!"

  • "The Peter Shields Inn is a place for special occasions and was a perfect setting for a birthday dinner for my husband. Beautiful mansion yet cozy atmosphere. Table for two on the side porch was romantic! Food was outstanding. The special salad and lobster offered were each melt in your mouth and made for a very memorable meal. My husband chose a beef dish from the menu and was equally as pleased. The server, Harriet, was very efficiently professional and attentive. When his dessert came to the table with a candle on the plate a few people nearby joined in a quick Happy Birthday song and a fuss was made in a nice way! My husband and I will always treasure this evening and the delicious food and good service! Just delightful!"

  • "My husband and I visit Cape May often and although we live on 40 minutes away, we consider Cape May our "getaway." In January our children gave us a gift certificate for your Inn for our 30th wedding anniversary and that was our first. Although we normally stay further south, we discovered a different great place to visit and although, Renovations were going on, it did not disrupt our stay. Thank you for being a part of special celebration and are looking forward to visiting again."

  • "As usual, very good overall. However, we always drink sparkling water with dinner and were disappointed that the bottle they brought us was not cold at all. We were told they had no cold bottles so we drank tap water. No big deal - but in a restaurant of this caliber (and price) they really should have cold sparkling water available."

  • "The atmosphere is ideal and therefore we expected the food to be equally spectacular. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The entrees were good but provided no creative attributes. Overall we had a pleasant but not outstanding experience."
