PSI's appearance from Beach Avenue tips you off that your dining experience will be special and reality does not disappoint. There was an attention to detail that extends from the environment to the food. The fish and scallops were impressive and the oysters were local and ocean-fresh. A live pianist played a variety of popular music punctuated by choruses of Happy Birthday while the wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the service was seamless. PSI is a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion and when the weather is fine a post-dinner stroll along the beach is a must.

The restaurant is along the ocean so views are nice. Ambience was relaxing and nicely done. Our dinners were nicely prepared and the flavors were what we expected. Our service was timely, professional and friendly although there was little interaction with the waiter. Everything was excellent but seemed more of a routine than guinuine hospitality. Remember this is a BYOB, a nice glass of wine would be a compliment to the view and food.

Trip advisor had ranked this restaurant #1 out of 110 places in Cape May, NJ. My husband and I wanted a dinner alone without any of our family for our last night at Cape May. We were not disappointed. The Inn is elegant and we were greeted warmly by the hostess. Our table was on the enclosed porch with an ocean view. We had the 3 course fixed prix menu. By dessert I was very full. The food was done perfectly and the service was impeccable. Harriet was our server. The wines comes from a local winery Cape May Winery. You could bring your own wine which I didn't know as I made the reservations online. Truly a dining experience.

Second time we've dined here and both were very good. Both times we were seated on the enclosed porch, which is very nice and does have a view of the ocean, but the tables are very close together and if you're expecting to have a private conversation, ask to be seated in one of the dining rooms. Overall, a very nice and relaxing evening. BYOB is a plus.

My wife and I really enjoyed our visit to the PSI. Service was terrific. Our waiter, Daniel was very attentive to us with out hovering. He is obviously a pro and enjoys what he does. It was my wife's birthday and he made her feel special. I would highly recommend the Inn for any special occasion. Great ambiance and nice porch for dining by candlelight. We look forward to our next visit.

Our party of four found Peter Shields to be a perfect dining experience. The food was outstanding, my husband says the best oysters he's ever had. Two in our party had prix fixe meals and loved them; the other two ordered a la carte, and were simply delighted. Service was impeccable, friendly but perfection, neither too slow nor too fast, the waiter extremely helpful in making choices. The venue is beautiful, the tables placed so far from one another that a full room of happy people created a happy buzz not a clamor. It will be our first choice for dinner when we are next in Cape May.

My girlfriend & I were in Cape May for the Wine and Food Week, thought this would be a great way to end it. It was so disappointing - the filets were cooked rare (as we requested) but they were so tough and tasteless. The Salmon in the Tartare was good but what was suppose to be a wasabi sauce, tasted like vinegar, it was more like plain guacamole. The Ceviche was also very plain. It's too bad, when they first opened it was wonderful.

After several wonderful home-cooked meals prepared by our foodie friends in Cape May, we were pleasantly surprised by the elegant decor, the warm ambience and the delicious food at Peter Shields Inn. The service staff was friendly and well-trained but the main dish took too long to arrive, even for a busy Saturday night. Still, we will look forward to returning and enjoying one of Cape May's jewels.

We had an early-ish dinner on Sunday after spending the afternoon in Cape May. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. We made a reservation at PSI. It was our first visit. We sat on the front porch and watched the sky turn striking colors. We brought a bottle of Rose(BYOB) and enjoyed the sky. Our waiter was pleasant and professional. The salads and dinners were spaced nicely and very tasty. The beet salad was wonderful. My husband had the market salad which he enjoyed. The Tuna and Tile fish dishes were perfect. I recommend this restaurant. By the time we left 8, the place was full.

The main draw for us was the location, which is right on the ocean block with beautiful views if you sit on the porch, which we did. We are in our 60's so are certainly not looking to swing from chandeliers or dance on table tops. We also like the noise level to be such that you can carry on a conversation but we felt like we were in church. From the moment you are greeted at reception everyone whispers. On the porch even the patrons were whispering. No one seemed to be having any fun or even a spirited chat. We whispered too because otherwise you would have been really obvious. Overall just too stuffy for me. Food was unremarkable except for the corn soup which was outstanding.

I expected so much, this restaurant has so many excellent reviews. First let me say it is very romantic. The pianist was wonderful and the atmosphere lovely. The food was just okay. The tuna tartar first course was very good, but my roasted chicken second course was so dry. My husband also was not impressed with his meal. The service was terrible, our waitress never mentioned any specials for that evening. She was very confused as to what course we were on, and was hard to find during our meal. We will not be rushing back next time we are in Cape May.

I was celebrating my birthday weekend, and PS made it an exceptional one. I dine there at least once if not twice a year, when I am at the shore. Chris was our server and he was extremely attentive. I had the duck foie gras for an appetizer and it was unbelievable. The people who were with me enjoyed their beet salads...one had the fish of the day...the other had the chicken and both were delicious. We ordered two chocolate lava cakes for dessert, cappuccino, etc. YUM! It was a perfect evening in every way.

The crab and smoked salmon salad reflects the simplicity of some of the dishes here as it consists of delicious ingredients that are prepared well and produce wonderfully enjoyable tastes. My partner stated that the corn soup tastes more like corn than corn does. We dine here at least once a month and have found the staff, food and atmosphere to be the most consistent of any SJ restaurant we visit. If you are in Cape May, give it a try. It is BYOB but they offer wines from a local winery if you don't bring your own.

We were seated immediately and white wine was taken from us to be brought to table and chilled. Elegant service and wait staff who know how to take care of you. Crab and smoked salmon appetizer was amazing. Husband had 4 course tasting menu, his corn chowder was sweet and smooth, his scallops were done to perfection and his strip steak was perfect. My hangar steak, not even chewable, was served with some vegetable that was equally unedible. My husband ended up sharing his steak. This entree kept my rating at 3 stars for food. His dessert warm chocolate lava cake, was good but uncreative in my mind since we see that a lot. Mine a surprising lemon "bar" with raspberry sorbet and I enjoyed the lightness and flavors. We will be back again.

We came from Ocean City excited about our first experience to PSI. We were seated immediately and asked if we wanted a cocktail. Our wait for our wine and water took longer then it should've. The waiter had no knowledge on presenting wine to a table. Our water glasses were not refilled in a timely manner. We also had to refill our own wine glasses throughout the evening as I noted tables around us did too. I must say that each course of our dinner was delicious and beautifully presented! The service was flat . I expected better . Also, on my visit to the restroom I was surprised by the shabbiness of the stairs and hallway. Upkeep doesn't seem a high priority for PSI. I expect the "whole" experience when I dine.

We have been to Cape May twice in the last 4 months and each time have been to Peter Shields. Each time the food and service was very good. I guess it speaks for itself with all of the really good restaurants in Cape May we chose to return to Peter Shields on our second trip. My wife had the halibut with the sauces on the side. She really enjoyed the halibut plain. But we both agreed that the pea puree and red wine reduction were both very good. I had the pork chop. Very good. Little on the large size for those of us who don't have dogs. Will I go back. Definitely.

Big, lovely atmosphere. Pleasant service. But for the price, food should be better. Had to search for the yummy ingredients that were supposed to be in my salad. My beautiful piece of fish was seriously overcooked, and the rib-eye steak that my husband had was ridiculously priced at $60!! We've paid that in NYC and had a much better steak! Dessert options boring and unimaginative. They can do better at a place like this, with these prices.

We have a fabulous dinner at Peter Shields Inn this week. The entrees were superb (scallops and yellow fin tuna). We were seated in the outside porch area and had a long distance view the ocean. It is a BYOB restaurant which is not a problem and actually allows you to bring a nice bottle of wine without incurring the usual restaurant markup (also no corking fee). Overall a great dining experience.
