Definately a hot spot for a special night out. Would highly recommend for couples who don't mind spending a little more for the finer things. Food is superb and the service was first rate. It's a little noisey when they get busy, but otherwise a wonderful experience

Outstanding restaurant with unique ambiance. A beautiful setting across the street from the ocean. The service is a bit formal in nature but friendly none-the-less. They do not have a liquor license and that is not clearly noted in the Open Table review.Therefore-BYO! The Inn is especially attractive from the outside.

The food was decent, but with so many choices in the Cape May area, I expected better for the price. We were not told of the BYOB (perhaps I missed it), and their wine choices were greatly lacking. We had reservations for over a month and we still had to wait 20 minutes, they stuck us in the bar, where no one asked us if we wanted anything, not even water. Once sat, we were just near the front door which was the worst seat in the house. Our waiter disappeared for long stretches. For $80pp with out alcohol, I expect much better overall.

This was our second visit to Peter Shields. The first was about 2.5 years prior in the winter and the experience was good. This time we arrived about 10 minutes early and the host advised that they were a bit frazzled. It seemed that there were a few large parties and the noise level was quite high. The host asked if we wanted to sit in the dining room or the outside area. We checked the outside area which was on the front porch with plastic tarps enclosing the space. We chose the porch to get away from the noise. The only problem with the porch was the lack of lighting. It was extremely dark and hard to read the menu. The food was good but the service was only fair. I will say that it was the last time for Peter Shields

This was my second visit to Peter Shields. While the food was great, the service by our waitress and the support staff was very disappointing. Perhaps because we are older, little attention was paid to refreshing water, pouring wine, clearing dishes in a timely manner. Rather than being welcoming, our waitress was snooty and formulaic. She did not treat us as people, but went about her job in a mechanical, impersonal way, abruptly putting down plates at dessert and not offering to refill coffee. It was clear she was serving us only because she had to. We are quiet, amenable people who enjoy a fine dinner and want the ambience that should be afforded us at such a restaurent. I will not likely choose Peter Shields again.

My husband and I went to Peter Shields for our 2 year wedding anniversary. The service was lovely and three different staff members wished us happy anniversary! It is a byob so we brought a bottle of wine which they happily opened for us. We had scrumptious salads, fabulous steaks and delicious dessert all with a ocean view! We loved it and will return again when we are in Cape May.

We have been going to Peter Shields for about 20 years. It is our "last night on vacation" spot as we ask for a table on the porch, which looks out on the ocean. This year the rain forced us inside, but the rooms are relaxing and lovely. This inn is unique because it is kid friendly early on, with plenty of room for them, and very romantic later in the evening. It's a BYOB, so that keeps costs down significantly in expensive Cape May. The food this trip was as good as in previous years, although not as imaginative.. and leave room for the fantastic desserts.

Peter Shields in is an unbelievably romantic spot in victorian Cape May. It is lovely to feel the ocean breeze and enjoy the view of the beach while you dine. The lobster crab cakes were amazing as was the South African Lobster Tail. At least one person at each table ordered the lobster tail. They offer unique twists to delicious dishes like their PSI Caesar Salad, which has an added kick of buffalo seasoning. If you are looking for a romantic experience or would like to enjoy a nice evening out with a few friends, this is a lovely spot! Stop at Colliers to pick up a nice bottle of wine (or two) to compliment your dinner!

We have dined in many place in Cape May over the years and have always heard of and wanted to try Peter Shields. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. I had originally requested an outside table, but was informed they could not seat a party of 6 outside, BUT they would reserve a table for us on the sunporch. When we arrived, this had not been arranged and we were seated in the main dining room, with no apologies. Service was slow and inattentive for such a fine dining establishment. The appetizers and desserts were quite small for the price, although the quality of the food was up to par. We will not be returning anytime in the near future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The restaurant is in a mansion that looks out to the Atlantic, very cool. The mansion itself is impressive. Parking is available on Ocean Blvd,no meters that we saw. We sat in the sunroom (enclosed porch. Again, very cool. Their menu is diverse enough for all tastes. We had the stuffed African lobster tail. It was very rich and full of crabmeat. It is a BYOB which we preferred. The members of the wait staff were friendly. We were not rushed through our meal. Many people go there for special celebrations and indeed it is a special place. Dress ranged from dressy to casual. Prices are on the high end but worth it.
