The Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant features a seasonally driven menu bursting with creativity. A favorite of Cape May locals and visitors alike, PSI offers a la carte dining along with a variety of seasonal tasting menus throughout the year. The magnificent ocean views offer the perfect setting to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a memorable dining experience in beautiful Cape May. During the summer months outdoor dining is available on the front porch overlooking the ocean, and several fireplaces keep the restaurant feeling cozy throughout the winter. Live piano music can be enjoyed at the restaurant all year long. PSI also specializes in hosting elegant ocean front weddings throughout the year, making this the perfect location for special celebrations. The dress code at PSI is Business Casual. PSI is no longer a BYOB as of 1/1/25, we offer a full spirits, wine and beer list. There is a $40 corkage fee for guests that would like to bring in a personal bottle.

                                                We had a very nice experience at PSI. Our waitress was attentive and professional. The first courses were great, stone fruit salad was delicious and oysters were as well. Main courses were also very good although my filet was only cooked the way I had asked (medium) on one half and was medium rare on the other half. I gave that part to my husband. The PBJ dessert was ok, and the white chocolate bread putting was insanely good. It’s a tiny bit overpriced for what it is but we would go back again.

                                                Beautiful location across from the ocean and dunes. Gorgeous mansion. Piano. The food was very good, I wanted the menu to have a few more things like Chilean sea bass, scallops or green salads. Service impeccable thanks Kim. The porch has NO fans, so don’t get caught out there in summer. Reserve early.

                                                We love The Peter Shields Inn and visit a few times a year. Service was spotty and a steak was overcooked. They kindly replaced it, but Maitre d was a bit impatient with us. And the prices of the entrees now with wine is a bit over the top, even for Cape May.

                                                From the moment you arrive at the Peter Sheilds Inn you know you are in for a treat. The entranceway is magnificent- flowers, grand entrance way and lighting. Once inside the quiet ambiance with soft piano music greet you . The waitstaff is well trained, friendly but not overly so and well informed about the menu and wines. The food is excellent both in presentation and taste. The wine list has a good selection of wines by the glass. The meal is served at a nice pace. If you are looking for an elegant fine dining experience this is the place for you.

                                                Everything was excellent except that we were seated at a small 18” round cocktail table for dinner. All other parties of two were seated at standard square dining tables. When served, our dinner plates didn’t fit on the table and protruded over our laps. This diminished an otherwise lovely evening celebrating or 36th wedding anniversary.

                                                Hard to select from the excellent menu offerings. Our meals were delicious, interesting, and flawlessly presented. Our server, Amy, was helpful, friendly, and engaging. And how could we beat the view? Sat on the porch and gazed at the beach throughout our meal. 4stars!!

                                                Peter Shields Inn is our go to spot for special occasions with the family or a quiet dinner for 2. The service and food are exceptional. We brought our 4-week-old granddaughter on 7/13/25 for her first fine dining experience. The staff did NOT disappoint (which isn't surprising). The hostess and manager checked to see if the air conditioner vent was okay for where we sat her carrier & they put 2 chairs together so she could "sit at the table" with us. While ordering dinner, I asked our waiter Chris (who we requested) about a special we had previously enjoyed at PSI, he told us that it wasn't on the special list for that evening. After we had our appetizers, Chris said the chef had a surprise gift for us and it was the softshell crab special app that we asked about. This was beyond anything I've experienced ever when dining out, I'm still spreading the word to whoever will listen to me. I've never had a morsel at Peter Shields that I didn't love. You must try the short rib, veal chop and the Halibut is to die for. Oysters are impeccable, always. I could go on and on. Can't wait for my next meal there, probably in a few weeks.
