Diner Reviews
  • "The outdoor patio at Pete Miller's is wonderful. Tables are close together, but groups are still able to converse and be heard. There are some outdoor flames that heat up certain areas, but if there is a breeze, every table will feel it. The bread is served warm and buttery even without adding any extra butter. Salads shared were small but tasty. The burgers were great. Unfortunately, our server was less than superb. In fact, he never checked on our food after it was served, and he never asked if we would like a beverage without us requesting them. As he knew that he was less than wonderful, he offered us desserts on him. This was the only time I have been to this restaurant and had such poor service. Mathlady"

  • "The dining experience was top notch! We had been to Pete's once before and have wanted to return ever since. It was even better than we remembered! The food was delicious and the service was the best. Ask for John to be your server. The drinks were also very good. It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for."

  • "We were very pleased with our experience. One of the best parts was the server, Christina. She was an absolute delight. Friendly, honest and sincere. We couldn't have been more pleased with her attitude and humor."

  • "Ended up at Pete's on our anniversary after abandoning another restaurant because it was neither classy or romantic. Pet's proved to be both. The ambiance was great with white tablecloths and live jazz in the lounge. The food was excellent. Shrimp appetizer was great.I had a filet, my wife the lobster. Simple but cooked to perfection. Pete Miller saved our night!"

  • "Very nice for special occasions. I just wanted to take my sweetie out for a nice dinner. Pete Miller's definitely fit the bill."

  • "Food was great! Portion size was a good value for the prices. Wine flights are a wonderful option. The cheesecake for dessert was delicious. The live Jazz was a pleasant background to our dinner. I liked the more mature, subdued patrons as opposed to the high energy bar scene you find in many places. The only negative was that the waitstaff seemed very stressed."

  • "My husband and I enjoy hearing the Jazz there on Saturday night. This was our 3rd time going to have dinner and enjoying the jazz that was playing."

  • "Enjoy Pete's, in Wheeling or Evanston. Great food, good value, good ambiance, especially enjoy the patio in Wheeling & jazz band in both locations...in Wheeling, best to sit mid-bar or further away if you want to engage in conversation during band sets tho. They are both among my favorite restaurants. Evanston location is favorite for New Year's for past 4 years!"

  • "What a great restaurant! We went on a weeknight so it wasn't very crowded and the noise level was low. Not sure it would be loud even when full. The lights are low, but not too low, which gives a calm, romantic feel. There was a lounge singer in the bar which added to the cozy feel this place has. The bread was warm and yummy. We have the calamari, which they include the legs (yum!) and the firecracker shrimp for appetizers. Entrees were the filet trio with roasted red potatoes and a prime rib dip sandwich with fries. We can't wait to go back as there are so many items on the menu we need to try!"

  • "The prime rib and fillet mignon were wonderful. We also split a Cesar salad and a ginormous slice of carrot cake. Our waiter was knowledgeable and the service was great. Four stars because although we enjoyed the band playing in the bar, the music was so loud that we had a hard time hearing each other while sitting in the dining room."

  • "I was very unhappy with the restaurant. It seemed they could not do anything right. The place was very old and needed remodeling, the server was not experienced, they send over the wrong drink and the food was improperly displayed and was not very good. For the level of this restaurant, it was a big disappointment. I was going to reserve a private room for a business meeting but now have changed my mind especially since the room I was going to use flooded when it had rained."

  • "We have dined at the Pete Millers Wheeling location many times ( twice in the last month) and the food remains top tier, but we have noticed the service has gone from great to what you would expect from a casual dining place like Friday's. The last two visits were illustrative of the decline in service. After being seated in the Patio area, which is a very nice venue, we were forced to prompt the servers for everything; bread, another round of drinks, salt/pepper, that is when we could find them. On both occasions the resturant was not very busy so I don't see that as a source of the problem."

  • "It seems as if Pete Millers may have seen better days. Our evening started out with drinks that were well prepared and I thought was a good sign. Unfortunately, when it came time to order the waiter had to first tell us what they were out of for the night. We were there at 5:30 and there may have been seven people total in the restaurant. Since I had eaten here before I was looking forward to a good meal. Everything was just fair and below my expectations."

  • "Going, going, gone? Is Pete's out of Wheeling? Patio closed on a warm Sunday night, no specials. Limited serving staff. Had to ask for bread, cocktail came after salad. What's going on? A very good place is losing my faith."

  • "Pretty consistent food and always attentive service."

  • "Went to celebrate my husband's birthday- between the four of us we covered land, sea and air! From baked pork chops with apples, brick chicken, lobster Cobb salad, and encrusted whitefish...we were all convinced we'd had the better meal. And we did. Salute!"

  • "Our food was excellent, our service was fair, but the noise level was unbearable. The music in the bar was so loud in the dining room we had to shout in our booth to hear each other. It made the evening and dining experience less than enjoyable."

  • "We've eaten at Pete Miller's a number of times, and I had a reservation 4 people for a special occasion. For a Friday evening at 7 PM, I was surprised that the place wasn't more crowded as it had been in the past. I was concerned that perhaps things had changed, but fortunately nothing was different - the food and service were both great. The grouper and sea bass are great seafood selections, and those who had steaks were very pleased. We've moved to the bar after dinner where they had a great band playing, and a number of people dancing - so it was quite fun. I'll certainly go back in the future."

  • "Been there several times before and food quality was not up to normal. Worse was the dumpy room at the front they put us into. Looked like it had not been touched in 30 years. And the service (not the waitress' fault) was so slow and unprofessional. It was Mother's day dinner and the place was busy but not packed. No good reason for such an overall poor experience."

  • "Took my Mom & daughter for Mother's Day Brunch. The best items were the seafood for my Mom & Daughter. I really liked the breakfast omelets, salad & sweet bar. Will go back"

  • " The food and jazz were the perfect combo for a relaxing Mothers' Day brunch. The buffet was a good value given the variety of expensive food and drink items and the quality of the food. (I've been disappointed by the food quality at the Ritz before.) Even the whipped cream for the waffles and ice cream sundae bar was real! The only problem with that was the chef was not prepared and we waited 40 minutes for the bowl of whipped cream to be refilled (no exaggeration). The bloody Mary bar was delicious and impressive. I have to say that I'm glad I didn't go to the Four Seasons and pay $135 for a brunch that was--honestly--just as delicious and satisfying!"

  • "I will not be returning to this restaurant. I did not enjoy my dining experience. I found bones in the salmon and the asparagus was too hard to eat. The booth seating was too low and quiche was not offered at the brunch."

  • "Ordered the bison with garlic mashed. Have to say the steak was bland and potatoes so so. Scallops on the other hand were very good. "

  • "Loved this place hard to find combination of wonderful food and live music with dancing. But still quiet enough to carry on a conversation. For a festive evening out with friends and family or just the two of you. Along the old road from Chicago to Milwaukee where people would stop to dine if you're wondering about the location. "

  • "This was our first time dining at Pete Miller's. We arrived early, and the service was very slow at first. No one except the (excellent) servers' assistant came to our table for quite some time. After that, the service picked up and was good for the rest of the meal. Overall, the staff were very attentive and accommodating. The food was nicely done - my fish was prepared perfectly. Decent wine list too. Before we chose this restaurant I checked out the menu, and the prices seemed high. That's because the portions are very large. There was a piano player/singer in the lounge, which added to the "clubby" atmosphere presented by the decor. I'd definitely return for another special occasion. "

  • "I took a date there and loved it as always. The Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection and my date agreed. There was even a mistake in my soup order and they made up for it by treating to a dessert. I'm always impressed by how friendly the staff is and how much they go out of their way to make me feel welcomed. If you are making a reservation, ask for Sofia. She is the best. "

  • "Had res at 1.00pm,seated almost on time. Food was very good but they did not add any new food until the item ran out. Not as much food as I would of liked. The staff was very nice , I think they should drop the price's to around $32.00 for what they offer.Would I go back? I don't think so as Allgauers has alot more for the $$$."

  • "There was fancy cavier in the buffet and crackers to go with it... However the crackers were so stale and old it ruined the cavier. Ha!"

  • "6 of us went for a Saturday dinner, 4:30pm, so it was early. We had good service since we were the first table in the restaurant. The waiter was a little hoe-hum, but the food was great. All 6 of us got a steak and they were delicious. However, for the price, I feel like you should get a vegetable and a potato, not just a potato. Just personal opinion though. All in all, I'd go again for a special occasion and recommend it to others that are celebrating something. "

  • "Filet mignon perfectly prepared; great service; house-made desserts (and current promo: no corkage fee). We look forward to our next dinner there."

  • "I love the vibrant atmosphere and live music. It's a great place for a special occasion and for a group if friends out for the night. The food is consistently good. I especially loved the filet trio. Well worth making the trip from the city. It's also not full of a lot of screaming children. A plus for those of us who are recent empty nesters."

  • "I didn't want to down grade the restaurant as I know they have served us better but I did need to send my entree back as the special short ribs were way too fatty to eat and the portion, described as 12 oz with bone was approx. 1/2 bone and disappointing, esp given the price. Also, the short ribs came with pototoes and as do not eat carbs I asked if I could substitute a vegetable and the server indicated, yes which in my mind implies that I could substitute a vegetable. The bill reflected a full charge, $8.00 for the spinach rather than an up charge for a vegetable. Not a good decision by the restaurant, esp. when the server said yes, to my question. I didn't argue, but wasn't happy. It may be a while before I return."

  • "Service was the best part of the evening, Corey (I hope I got his name right, was helping out from the Evanston location) was fantastic. Quick, knowledgable, funny without being in the way...really wonderful. The steaks were good and enjoyed by those that ordered. The Juicy Lucy was not great, the idea with that is that when you bite into it the cheese oozes out, the cheese was solid in the burger. I do wish I'd ordered a steak. The outside area wasn't open but looks really nice, the bartenders were great. I'd go to eat outside or at the bar if we go again but there are so many other places to try in the area."

  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant to bring a my theater group to before we went to the Marriott for a play. The Twilight menu was fabulous and everyone was very happy with it. Now it is gone and I'm afraid my Marriott group won't be eating here pre-play any longer."

  • "Good ambience, not so crowded (Monday), good live music ... something like a "light jazz" with a piano accompaniment (without any other instruments). Food is not bad, but the waiters was concentrated on "their own problems". And, of course, that is not the cheapest place to go (about 2 times more expensive than any other place with the same food, but without the live music)."

  • "We had an awful experience. At 7pm on a Saturday night they were out of sauvignon blanc. They were also out of grouper! That is, until they pulled some from the big party in the restaurant. The waiter took forever to take our order. It also took a very long time to get our food; maybe they were preoccupied with the party meals. The manager only said he was sorry. That hardly was sufficient for the lack of service. It also was not smooth getting the bill. When we spoke to the manager again he offered a voucher for a future meal which was useless since we told him we wouldn't come back. It took another very long time for him to agree to us using the voucher for this meal. When we left the restaurant he totally ignored us."
