Our waiter, Cory, was outstanding and knew both the menu and the wine list. He made several helpful suggestions. The appetizers were delicious and had a nice presentation. Try the bacon wrapped scallops in the whiskey reduction with apple chutney. The wine list was good with both affordable bottles and wines by the glass. The wines by the glass were fresh ( and I'm picky when it comes to wine). Our main dishes were good. I had medium rare grass fed bison. My steak was a bit on the tough/sinewy side even for grass fed bison. Will try the beef on the next trip. Side dish offerings were great. Nothing was rushed which was nice. He did a great job in highlighting the menu choices and assisted my friend from Kenya who was not an experienced steak house diner. A rich appetizer for two people, but probably great for 3 or more to share. There was a great selection of wine, beer and spirits, as I had a nice Belgian beer while the wife had a crisp Californian Chardonnay.
The 10 oz filet we ordered was mediocre at best, but the Shrimp De Jonghe was amazing. I know it's a Chicago classic, but this dish accompanied with the Mac & Cheese is just perfect. If only the steaks had a bit more seasoning and a demi-glace or reduction of some sort to enhance the flavor, especially with the leaner cuts of meat like the filet. I'll go back and try a ribeye next time and will hope for the best.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBest filet in the Chicago areaI am a bit of a snob when it comes to filets. If you're getting a porter house go to Capital Grill, if you want it mega-aged, go to Primehouse but if you want an amazing filet, Pete Miller's is your place. I don't know how they manage to make such a perfect filet every time but they have it down pat. I've been eating there for over 10 years and they rarely let me down in any area but NEVER on the meat. I was concerned when the new mgnt took over last year but they have exceeded expectations with new specials, and more side items to choose from on the every day menu.
The restaurant is on the more expensive side, but it's not pompous. (my favorite, the filet, 10oz is $38. With bone-in 14oz its $44. CrabThis place has some great sea food. Form the sounds of it, they have some great steaks too. They have a large wine list as well as some cocktail. They have a nice large bar that was packed when we were there and they usually have live music in the main room. We went there for king crab legs and forgot that they offer a accompaniment with any meal for an additional $15, which is awesome. So we each ordered a different fish dish and each of us had a accompaniment of King crab. Perfect! The wine by the glass list is the largest I've ever seen and a really great option. I ordered the blue cheese wedge, which is one of my favorites. Pete's was the perfect wedge salad, just the right amount of everything. I had the 7 ounce fillet and it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Mom and sister's had sea bass, grouper, and shrimp, and they were all extremely happy. This says a lot for our family.....we are foodies. My Mother (87) ordered a Cosmo, and I swear it was the best one that I've ever had, and I've had many. We were served in a timely and courteous fashion. Excellent service actually, and enjoyed a wonderful vocalist in Abigail. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and will come again for ambience and everything else. One suggestion would be to beef up the crab cakes as they were puny compared to the other things we were serves. We ordered soup salad appetizer and the wonderful ribs and lobster Mac. Took my Dad there for his 83rd b-day and we had a great time even though our reservation was quite early, 5pm, due to a 7:30pm show.
