If you're getting a porter house go to Capital Grill, if you want it mega-aged, go to Primehouse but if you want an amazing filet, Pete Miller's is your place. I don't know how they manage to make such a perfect filet every time but they have it down pat. I've been eating there for over 10 years and they rarely let me down in any area but NEVER on the meat. I was concerned when the new mgnt took over last year but they have exceeded expectations with new specials, and more side items to choose from on the every day menu.
The restaurant is on the more expensive side, but it's not pompous. (my favorite, the filet, 10oz is $38. With bone-in 14oz its $44. The food, however, has not remained as stellar. Side dishes were heavy with salt. Fish dishes that were overcooked made it to our table. While many folks may not even notice it, the grand flourishes of the steakhouse are no longer part of the fun of dining at PM. The steak tray is no longer brought out except on request. Fire has also left the building- Bananas Foster are no longer flambeed table side, and other bits of dinner theater that were so much fun are gone. CrabThis place has some great sea food. Form the sounds of it, they have some great steaks too. They have a large wine list as well as some cocktail. They have a nice large bar that was packed when we were there and they usually have live music in the main room. We went there for king crab legs and forgot that they offer a accompaniment with any meal for an additional $15, which is awesome. So we each ordered a different fish dish and each of us had a accompaniment of King crab. Perfect! The wine by the glass list is the largest I've ever seen and a really great option. I ordered the blue cheese wedge, which is one of my favorites. Pete's was the perfect wedge salad, just the right amount of everything. I had the 7 ounce fillet and it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Mom and sister's had sea bass, grouper, and shrimp, and they were all extremely happy. This says a lot for our family.....we are foodies. My Mother (87) ordered a Cosmo, and I swear it was the best one that I've ever had, and I've had many. We were served in a timely and courteous fashion. Excellent service actually, and enjoyed a wonderful vocalist in Abigail. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and will come again for ambience and everything else. One suggestion would be to beef up the crab cakes as they were puny compared to the other things we were serves. We ordered soup salad appetizer and the wonderful ribs and lobster Mac. Took my Dad there for his 83rd b-day and we had a great time even though our reservation was quite early, 5pm, due to a 7:30pm show. The Wedge salad is a solid salad with rich blue cheese chunks and crisp bacon. The 7 oz filet is always tender and just the right portion. Whether it is an evening out with parents or in laws or just a quick bite, you can't go wrong with Pete Millers. It's our north shore go to place when my 70 year old parents visit. The food, service, and atmosphere were much improved from our initial visit. And, a nice surprise, there was very good live jazz starting at 8 pm.
