Diner Reviews
  • "Good food but forget trying to carry on a conversation on a Friday evening. Very loud!!"

  • "Flavorful, with the purity of each fresh ingredient delighting your palate. No heavy, smothering sauces in this joint. As we say in Hawai'i, "broke da mouth," or "so ono (delicious)!""

  • "Food was all around very good, although not as outstanding as the first time I tried this place some months ago. (Please bring back risotto in squid ink!) Service was excellent. Our server was helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Please play better music though. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and similar tunes at dinner at an Italian restaurant with real food? Strange."

  • "very enjoyable meal. all of the dishes we ordered were very delicious--that included 2 different salads, a risotto, the wonderful scallops, a pasta dish and one of the featured fish of the evening. pound cake for desert was a light way to end the meal."

  • "We were looking for a great place to eat in that neighborhood for our last evening in SF and we found it! PESCE was all that, and more. The service was attractive and friendly, knowledgeable and fast. The small plates were perfect share. Everything was delicious and the service was fast. We particularly enjoyed the Risotto di Mare. The room was modern and elegant. I highly recommend Pesce and would definitely go back whenever I return to SF. A true find."

  • "This is the third time I have dined at Pesce since they moved from Russian Hill to the Castro. I loved the restaurant when they were on Russian Hill, and ate there many times. Since they have moved to the Castro, the food quality has in my opinion plummeted (don't get me wrong: The food isn't BAD, but rather decidedly mediocre), and the portions have become downright microscopic. The service continues to be excellent and the presentation of the food is very nice. I will go to Pesce for drinks, but it will be awhile before I try to eat there again."

  • "My friends who live in the neighborhood go all the time, and whenever we can tear away from SOMA we head there. Love the staff and owner, Jessica is our favorite server and brings the fun to the experience. On top of all this, the food never disappoints. Great HH too!"

  • "Pesce was recommended by a foodie friend. We were not disappointed. The entire experience was great. Service was efficient and friendly. There are a good amount of dish options and the food was outstanding. The whole branzino for two was excellent as were the asparagus and scalloped potato sides. Leave room for dessert! The cheesecake and bread pudding were both pleasers. We will be back for more! I also recommend the red kite cocktail!"

  • "The food was great and reminded me of some of many great meals I've had in Venice. The spicy Tuna Bolognese we excellent. Nice Italian wine selection also."

  • "We had a lovely meal on Monday night. Restaurant not too crowded, so noise level was great. The food to share is fun and we enjoyed it all. We're very happy to have another great restaurant in this spot."

  • "We have been to Pesce a number of times and have always been impressed with the quality and flavor of the foods. Our dinner this time was no exception. The food was nicely arranged and the portions a reasonable size. The restaurant tends towards quality of food, not quantity and that is fine by us. Definitely a restaurant that we will return to! The only minor downside is that it is quite "Vibrant" (noisy) so if you are planning on having an intimate conversation over dinner, this is likely not the best choice. But the food is really good."

  • "This was my 4th visit to Pesce. Once again, the food was excellent. Three of us dined and we had salads --- my favorite is the arugula with lemon and parmesan. Our main dishes were a pasta with arrabiata sauce, eggplant, and I had the risotto with corn. We finished every morsel. It was all nicely presented and delicious. Our drinks were solid, though one of my party missed his favorite vodka! By the time we finished our meal, the place was very busy and, yes, vibrant. The staff were good in all phases of the service. We'll return."

  • "JazzinCode.com wanted an awesome dining experience on Father's Day ... something hip, fresh, and delicious before heading off to the SF JazzCenter's performance so we parked the near the center, grabbed a cab and 4 minutes later ... voila! a memorable experience. We manifested everything we imagined there at Pesce from the creative cocktails to the semolina-crusted asparagus and eventually the shellfish risotto! For one who has dined in Venice and Florence, Pesce's risotto was authentic ... perfettamente delizioso!"

  • "The service was great. Our waiter was always there when we wanted him to be, and never when we didn’t. The dishes tend to be on the small side and meant to be shared by the table. However, there are also daily specials that are meant as an entrée (Lobster Spaghetti was one of them on the menu the night we were there), which we included and shared as well. You are encouraged to order 2 – 3 dishes per person. They come out rapidly, but not all at once, so you dine at a pace that is comfortable. To a dish, they were each delicious. And the desserts were also extremely tasty (homemade cannoli’s – yummy). We were extremely pleased with the entire experience, and I and my friends would definitely go back frequently."

  • "I have eaten here several times and loved everything both times. I know you might be tempted to stick to only fish since there are so many delicious choices. However, get a side of veggies or a salad because those are fabulous as well. The ambiance is great too!"

  • "Food was hot, ingredients great, wonderful flavors!"

  • "A great addition to the meager culinary scene in the hood! My waitress (Dorothy) was outstanding even if a bit understated. I liked her a lot. Food is of high quality. However, the noise was incredible, even though it was actually on the later side (after 9 pm) and on workday. Still, it is better to have this place here than not!"

  • "Excellent cocktails. Small but tasty tapas. Everything was well made and delicious. Our server was friendly but not obtrusive. An improvement over the previous tenant of this space. Is good for a date or group of friends. Want to come back for brunch."

  • "Best branzino I've had yet in SF. The asparagus was outstanding. The beet salad was fantastic. I am so glad that the change in location did not interrupt the wonderful food on offer. "

  • "Diver scallops is a must try. Also try the polpo and the smoked salmon."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "I was impressed with my dinner. We started with the smoked salmon, which was so much better than anything I've had at other restaurants. Even the capers that came with it were amazing. Then on to the scallops which were perfectly seared and full of flavor. The risotto di mare was also wonderful. With every bite I could taste the ocean. Then the pasta with duck, heaven! Our waiter could not have been more accommodating. The wine he recommended was excellent. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very inviting, festive, and friendly. I can't wait to go back and enjoy it all over again."

  • "Pesce has been a welcome addition to this neighborhood after the closing of 2223 and the short lived, Jake's, that couldn't quite find it's legs as a suitable replacement. Kudos to the friendly hosts, attentive Bartenders and wait staff. The food was quite good and they seem to be changing the menu to fit their clientele's needs and feedback, is which a good sign they listen to their customers. Great job, we'll be back. "

  • "Fabulous food, great service, but unable to hear the person next to me, much less across the table. Will go back on on off night. Not a weekend. "

  • "This was my first time at Pesce in its new location. I was looking for a restaurant that would satisfy three "foodies" and two people who had dietary restrictions and were much less adventuresome. Pesce was great for all of us. We were so impressed with the inventiveness and the quality of the food. The smoked salmon and crab tower little plates were off the charts good, and the daily special half lobster with spaghetti was outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to going back again."

  • "We had been for dinner before, but we tried brunch for the first time last weekend. It was very good. The choice of items is great with nice twists on standard fare. My mushrooms on polenta cakes were delicious. Service is solid. I'm liking Pesce more every time I go. "

  • "Second time there, everything was awesome, but it was very loud room, hard to talk, I'd still go back because the food is so good. If you like fish and great food you can share at the table, this is the place."

  • "The food here is above par and our waitress was superb! Great place to have a dinner AND a conversation!"

  • "Our group of six went to Pesce for brunch on Mother's Day. Pesce offered free mimosas to the moms and an amazing culinary experience for the rest of us. The short-rib and kale hash were so good no one else got a bite. The polenta cakes and mushrooms were scrumptious. We'd eat there again in a heartbeat. "

  • "Place was empty at around 2PM on a Saturday, but the service was amazing and the food itself was equally amazing. Bloody Mary had a little too much balsamic vinegar it, but was still very good. The biscuit that comes with brunch entrees was to die for. Overall great experience. I think once word gets out how good the food is, this place will start to heat up and bring a better brunch experience. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality brunch spot. Also must note - that everyone working there was extremely friendly."

  • "We enjoyed the cocktails, and our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list. Great plates for sharing with a group of close friends. We really enjoyed the smaller dishes such as the diver scallops and the pappardelle pasta. The risotto di funghi was outstanding. Desserts were well-proportioned, and easily shareable as well. Overall great experience!"

  • "The atmosphere was very lively when we first came in at 7:30...our server came to us pretty quickly to take our appetizer order and food order. The food came out almost too quickly but was very good. My only complaint was towards the end it was starting to get very loud in the restaurant--we had a table by the window which was a bit sheltered but it was starting to get hard to talk to everyone in our table of 5 by the end without yelling."

  • "The food is the same high quality as the original location, bravo!"

  • "Loved everything about Pesce; food, service, and ambience was sublime."

  • "The food is great and tasty. Definitely recommend this restaurant. It is noisy and that is its only down-side. But the food makes up for that."

  • "The acoustics and volume of the music made it impossible to have a fun social evening. Waitress was inattentive and forgetful about requests. Food was delicious."

  • "This restaurant had an excellent seafood menu with an Italian influence. But the wine list is substantially overpriced. For our group of four the noise level was far too loud. "
