It was a great Sunday in August for our drinks and nosh. Fantastic choices in oysters and tapas. However, one server the whole tourist season evening. Could do check ins more frequently as we were wanting drinks. We also waited a long time for the entree. Understaffed or under planned.

We loved Pesce when it was on Polk Street. It's so nice to have it in our own neighborhood. The mixed grill for two was enough for the three of us, with the grilled calamari everyone's favorite. The hamachi crudo, while small, is outstanding. Our servers were fun, but they seemed a bit overworked. The lovely hostess smoothed things over as best she could when things got busy. Our only quibble was the music. EDM at a high volume doesn't really mix well with dinner at 7:45. Save that for later.

I came with a group of five and we tried many dishes, all of which were great. Standouts were the meatballs (I could have eaten a plate of them!), the tuna bolognese, the risotto di mare, and the snap peas. The portions are large and the prices incredibly reasonable. I can't wait to go back and try more!

This is my 5th visit to Pesce. Once again, it was very enjoyable. We shared several cold appetizers and each was delicious. We had the arugula salad, the heirloom tomato salad, and a small crab "tower". The bar drinks were quite good as well. It was a tad noisy (and maybe the background music could have been down a notch) but Pesce comes with our enthusiastic, "go there and enjoy"!

We thoroughly enjoyed our first experience at Pesce - the space was a favorite from our many years living and then visiting SF and were pleasantly surprised to find this great restaurant in a place we had loved and enjoyed before. The "tapas" and main plate idea is great - we had some lovely small dishes and then and exquisite Bronzino. The service was great and the owner came out and explained his concept and his path to owning this place - very friendly and kind. The only negative was the availability of better liquor brands (no Grey Goose, no Chivas Regal) - that could be improved.

I visited the bar while waiting for my partner to arrive for our table reservation. Long story short - the bartender made us feel so welcome that we ended up just staying seated for dinner at one of the bar bistro tables. He was very attentive to us and the other two bar tables despite having the regular bar counter packed with patrons. I was so impressed with the service that I forgot what we each had for dinner. We have been here many times before and in general all the table servers were extremely pleasant. It is surprisingly refreshing to experience the same sincerely welcoming service at the bar.

I wish I remembered the name of the waitress we had on Saturday night at dinner--she is probably the best server I've had in SF in about 10 years. She had a trainee in tow, but that didn't slow her down one bit. She was engaged, funny, and very helpful with the menu. The food was very very good, and I tend to be pretty picky about seafood. The only slight disappointment was the corn/bacon side dish. I mean, how can you go wrong with bacon? I guess it was just a little bland compared to the amazing seafood small plates that we ordered.

The food was good, but extremely small portions, even for an upscale place. Our waiter was condescending, in attentive and rude. We had to ask for water 3 times, bread was served after our apps arrived. We said no thanks to Dessert but were brought a menu anyways. And then had to wait 10 Minutes for our waiter to come back and ask us again if we wanted any dessert. Id rather spend my money at the two other seafood places within a block. So unfortunate, we were hoping it would be better.

It must be difficult to start a seafood restaurant these days because of the costs associated with wild and farm-raised fish. With that, Pesce offered some wonderful seafood items on its menu. I wanted to try it all. Not just because it was tasty, which the items were, but because the portions (as were explained by the tapas format) were quite small. And it wasn't just the small plates that were small; the entree portions were quite tapas-sized as well for the price.

We've been here before for lunch/brunch, but this was our first dinner experience. We tried the dinner special Cioppino and that was excellent. We ordered a couple of pitchers of the alcoholic fruit punch (forgot that it's called) and that was tasty too. Our out of town friend liked it as well. Very good service.

Went with two Venetians, and they loved the food and found it very authentic. There were delicious and creative bites at the bar to go with the great cocktails. Everything we tried for dinner was delicious. The hamachi and the octopus were outstanding, the risotto, the crab tower, the scallops, and the mixed seafood platter were delicious. You'll find authentic northern Italian food here, and absolutely wonderful, intelligent, attentive service.

Every time I come here I forget how good the food is and wonder why I don't go more often. There really are 2-3 decent restaurants in the castro with the rest being average at best. The cocktails are fantastic, the food selection changes often so you don't see the same things over and over and it's all well prepared and very flavorful. The portions are a nice size as well.

Food was all around very good, although not as outstanding as the first time I tried this place some months ago. (Please bring back risotto in squid ink!) Service was excellent. Our server was helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Please play better music though. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and similar tunes at dinner at an Italian restaurant with real food? We were looking for a great place to eat in that neighborhood for our last evening in SF and we found it! PESCE was all that, and more. The service was attractive and friendly, knowledgeable and fast. The small plates were perfect share. Everything was delicious and the service was fast. We particularly enjoyed the Risotto di Mare. The room was modern and elegant. I highly recommend Pesce and would definitely go back whenever I return to SF. A true find.

This is the third time I have dined at Pesce since they moved from Russian Hill to the Castro. I loved the restaurant when they were on Russian Hill, and ate there many times. Since they have moved to the Castro, the food quality has in my opinion plummeted (don't get me wrong: The food isn't BAD, but rather decidedly mediocre), and the portions have become downright microscopic. The service continues to be excellent and the presentation of the food is very nice. I will go to Pesce for drinks, but it will be awhile before I try to eat there again.

There are a good amount of dish options and the food was outstanding. The whole branzino for two was excellent as were the asparagus and scalloped potato sides. Leave room for dessert! The cheesecake and bread pudding were both pleasers. We will be back for more! I also recommend the red kite cocktail!

We have been to Pesce a number of times and have always been impressed with the quality and flavor of the foods. Our dinner this time was no exception. The food was nicely arranged and the portions a reasonable size. The restaurant tends towards quality of food, not quantity and that is fine by us. Definitely a restaurant that we will return to! The only minor downside is that it is quite "Vibrant" (noisy) so if you are planning on having an intimate conversation over dinner, this is likely not the best choice. But the food is really good.

This was my 4th visit to Pesce. Once again, the food was excellent. Three of us dined and we had salads --- my favorite is the arugula with lemon and parmesan. Our main dishes were a pasta with arrabiata sauce, eggplant, and I had the risotto with corn. We finished every morsel. It was all nicely presented and delicious. Our drinks were solid, though one of my party missed his favorite vodka! By the time we finished our meal, the place was very busy and, yes, vibrant. The staff were good in all phases of the service. JazzinCode.com wanted an awesome dining experience on Father's Day ... something hip, fresh, and delicious before heading off to the SF JazzCenter's performance so we parked the near the center, grabbed a cab and 4 minutes later ... voila! a memorable experience. We manifested everything we imagined there at Pesce from the creative cocktails to the semolina-crusted asparagus and eventually the shellfish risotto! For one who has dined in Venice and Florence, Pesce's risotto was authentic ... perfettamente delizioso!

The service was great. Our waiter was always there when we wanted him to be, and never when we didn’t. The dishes tend to be on the small side and meant to be shared by the table. However, there are also daily specials that are meant as an entrée (Lobster Spaghetti was one of them on the menu the night we were there), which we included and shared as well. You are encouraged to order 2 – 3 dishes per person. They come out rapidly, but not all at once, so you dine at a pace that is comfortable. To a dish, they were each delicious. And the desserts were also extremely tasty (homemade cannoli’s – yummy). We were extremely pleased with the entire experience, and I and my friends would definitely go back frequently.
